Bert Nordberg, who has been the CEO of Sony Ericsson (now Sony Mobile) since the summer of 2009, is going to lose his job on May 16th. His successor will be Kunimasa Suzuki (pictured above, left). According to BusinessWeek, Suzuki has been with Sony since 1984 and has spent the last decade of his career overseeing the company’s VIAO computer division. Other than that, we really don’t know anything about this dude. We will say this however, it’s telling that the head of Sony Mobile will now be a Japanese guy as opposed to a Swedish guy. This makes sense when you think about Sony’s new strategy. They want to make mobile a huge part of their business, rightfully so, and this move clearly demons...

Game Developers Diss Wii U's Graphics System, Prefer PS3 and Xbox 360

Posted on Apr 04, 2012 by MG3

Barring any last minute surprises, Nintendo will be the first of the big three console makers to come out with a next generation living room game system. It's the Wii U, and it will ship with HD graphics support, a funky new tablet controller, and updated guts that, in theory, should have developers excited. It is, after all, a new toy to play with. It's the subpar graphics, or at least that's what developers supposedly familiar with the hardware told GamesIndustry International. The developers, who wish to remain anonymous, said the Wii U is "just not as powerful" as the PS3 or Xbox 360, a pair of consoles that have been around the bloc...

Sony to announce new PlayStation 3 video service, but what is it?

Posted on Apr 03, 2012 by MG3

As part of his usual rundown of the coming week's PSN content during the latest PlayStation Blogcast, Senior Social Media Manager Jeff Rubenstein teased listeners with a brief mention of a "cool new video service" that will be revealed for the PlayStation 3. "I can't tell you anything more about it right now," he says. "But it's really cool. We tried it out, and it's something I think you all will like. Another option for people, coming to PSN for your PS3." And just like that, Rubenstein plowed forward with the release list, offering no further hints of what we can expect from the announcement.

The relationship between the three companies was announced in August last year, before being formalized in November. Sony HXR-NX30 camcorder: built-in projector, 96GB storage for $2,500 (video)

Sony HXR-NX30 camcorder: built-in projector, 96GB storage for $2,500 (video)

Posted on Apr 03, 2012 by MG3

Don't worry, lone gunslingers, today isn't just about the NEX-FS700. Sony's pro range has also been bolstered with the HXR-NX30 for videographers who need to travel light. This model sacrifices interchangeable lenses in favor of a palm-friendly form factor with a 26mm-260mm (35mm equivalent) Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T fixed lens. The camera sports Sony's 'Balanced Optical SteadyShot' technology, which means both the lens and the sensor assembly are floated as a single element to minimize camera shake. Unlike that of the larger NEX-VG20, the HXR-NX30's sensor is shrunken too: it's an Exmor R CMOS that's only slightly larger than 1/3-inch. The North American NX30U variant handles 1920 x 1080 at...

Posted on Mar 28, 2012 by MG1

Sony has been quiet on the OLED TV front since withdrawing its 11-inch XEL-1 from the market a couple of years ago, and while Samsung and LG showed off 55-inch OLED sets at CES this year Sony only brought its Crystal LED prototype. However, the company has always said that it was continuing development of OLED technology, and if reports coming out of Korea are to be believed its re-entry into the market may not be far off. ET News cites sources with information that Sony has sent engineers to an AU Optronics (AUO) factory in Taiwan in order to collaborate on commercial OLED development. The partnership is reportedly operating out of AUO's sixth-generation plant, which is designed to produce ...
