Sony promised that its entire 2011 line of Android smartphones would be receiving an update to Ice Cream Sandwich, and while it’s been a long wait, the company is starting to deliver. Sony has taken to its user forums to announce that the rest of the 2011 line should be seeing the ICS updates very shortly, with Xperia Arc and Xperia Neo users already reporting that the upgrade has arrived.

Sony releases Android 4.0 update for Tablet S

Sony has just announced that the Android 4.0 update for its Tablet S is now available and should be rolling out to owners —j ust connect your Tablet S to Wi-Fi and you should be prompted for a system update. It's good to see Sony living up to its word and delivering this update when it said it would, though we're still waiting for the Tablet P to receive its Ice Cream Sandwich update. To go along with this update, Sony's offering the Tablet S at a bit of a discount — if you buy between now and May 12th, you'll receive $50 as well as a free cradle accessory. This puts the Tablet S at $349 for the 16GB model, and while it isn't the best Android tablet we've ever used, the infusion of Ice Cream...

Sony loaning Android devices to devs for testing

We've given Sony a lot of props recently because of how it has been going about its Ice Cream Sandwich ROM development, by distributing alpha and beta versions of the updates for the community to test and comment on, in order to make them better. Now, Sony is going another step further by loaning Android devices to developers to let them test apps for any compatibility issues.
Sony has started up its Device Loaner Program, which will allow developers up to 30 days to borrow a device in order to test out apps. Sony Music Unlimited bringing its own streaming flair to iOS soon

We heard back in December that Sony's fledgling Music Unlimited service would eventually be spreading its wings to cover even more operating systems, and here at CES 2012, we've learned that it's Apple's own iOS on the docket. Tim Schaaff, head of Sony Entertainment Network noted this week that the company will offer a gratis iPhone and iPad app for Music Unlimited "at some point this quarter." Sony Tablet S to get Android 4.0, but no release date yet

Sony Ericsson has already jumped ahead of the rest of the Android manufacturer pack by committing itself to releasing Android 4.0 on a slew of smartphones and even going so far as to to release "preview ROMs" for several of them. On the tablet side, Sony looks like it's being equally aggressive. In a post on its official Sony forums in the UK, a staffer posted a message proclaiming that "Android 4.0 will be available for Sony Tablet." Sony Ericsson Vscreens shares media to any device's browser

Sony Ericsson on Friday brought out a beta app that lets an Android device share its media on most bigger screens. Vscreens requires an Android app (Market) but can form a bond to share media with any device on the local Wi-Fi network by scanning a QR code on the screen. The link works on any modern browser and will show photos and videos on the target browser, even on iOS devices or the PS3.
The approach is a way to skip the trouble of requiring both devices on a universal sharing protocol, like DLNA, or else making a physical connection.
Running the app demands at least Android 2.1, but it isn't locked to Sony Ericsson phones.

It's been a week of upgrades for Sony Tablet S owners. First came news of the PlayStation Store's arrival and now comes confirmation that Sony's Music Unlimited service is available, as well. Yesterday, the company announced that its music streaming service has finally made its way to the Tablet S and other Android slates, a little more than four months after launching on Google-laced handsets.
