Canon EOS 5D Mark III Firmware Version 1.1.3

Canon has posted a firmware update for the Canon EOS 5D Mark III full-frame DSLR camera. According to the company, Version 1.1.3 incorporates the following improvements and fixes.:
1. Supports the single focal length EF40mm f/2.8 STM lens that is to be released at the end of June, 2012.
2. Fixes a phenomenon in which an image may become underexposed when using the Auto Lighting Optimizer for continuous Auto Exposure Bracketing (AEB) shooting.
3. Fixes a phenomenon in which the backlight of the LCD monitor may not turn off depending on the camera settings and timing.
4. Fixes a phenomenon in which the camera’s power may not turn on when a super-telephoto lens*1) is mounted to the camera with ...

Nikon: D800 users don't want Wi-Fi

Nikon has said that it looked into including Wi-Fi functionality for the D800, but believes that current Wi-Fi speeds are too slow for the commercial market.
Currently, there are no DSLRs on the market with WiFi technology built into them, but several adapters and add-ons are available.
Recently, Nikon launched the D3200, a beginner level camera which has an optional Wi-Fi accessory costing around £55. Presently, the W1-UA only works with the D3200 and gives photographers the opportunity to control the camera via a mobile device and share images online.

Sony NEX-F5 to feature inbuilt WiFi?

It's barely been a week (in fact's it's been 8 days) since Sony announced its latest compact system camera, but already the rumours about its next release are hotting up.
Several reports suggest that the NEX-F5 will be unveiled soon, with rumours hinting that it may be the first interchangeable lens camera from Sony to include integrated WiFi.
Samsung was the first manufacturer to produce an interchangeable lens camera with this function, with its recent upgrades to its NX range (NX20, NX210 and NX1000) announced just last month.

Rumours are abound that Canon has finally started to ship the 1DX, the company's new top-of-the-range DSLR.
Originally announced all the way back in October, the 1DX was initially scheduled to go on sale from February. However, delays to the production have pushed this back to a general on-sale date for June.

Nikon explains D800 screen 'green cast' issues

Nikon has defended the screen on its D800 DSLR, after many pointed out a green tinge which made images appear to have cooler tones.
Speaking to TechRadar, James Banfield from Nikon UK said, "The viewing conditions of the screen can affect how it looks. In a studio environment it will be most neutral. The only way to get over this is to block out the ambient light."

The Fujifilm FinePix XP170 is the latest addition to the tough XP series of cameras. The14 megapixel XP170 is waterproof to 10m, shockproof to 2m, freezeproof to -10°C and dust and sandproof. It also features a 5x optical zoom (28-140mm) with sensor shift image stabilization, wireless image transfer to both Android and Apple devices, full HD movie capture, and an ISO range of 100-3200.
The Fujifilm FinePix XP170 will be available in June 2012 for $279.95 in blue and orange. An accessory kit for the new XP170 containing an adjustable float strap, protective silicone skin and a neoprene sports case will also be available at launch.

Rumours that there will soon be a Nikon D400 seem to be gathering momentum with sightings of a D400 book for pre-order. Called Magic Lantern Genie Guides: Nikon D400, the book is claimed to be authored by Simon Stafford.
According to Stafford, "the posting found on Amazon, as reported by Nikon Rumours, is erroneous".

Canon has completed its promised investigation into the light leak issue reportedly plaguing the new 5D Mark III. Some users have complained that keeping the top LCD panel's backlight on can affect the automatic exposure in low light situations, but the company has found that while the displayed exposure value may indeed be affected, the actual captured image itself will not. In short, your camera should still be exposing pictures correctly, but you might need to be confident of your settings — the screen may not be giving you trustworthy information.

Panasonic reveals GF5 compact system camera

Panasonic has unveiled the latest compact system camera to sit in its beginner range, in the shape of the GF5.
The update to the GF3 features what Panasonic claims to be the world's fastest autofocus (0.09 seconds), and a completely new 12 million pixel sensor.
A fast Venus engine combines with the new sensor to produce image quality which Panasonic says is comparable to the G3.
Other new features include higher ISO capability, 4fps shooting and a newly designed user interface which includes on-screen help to guide new users.

Canon launches EOS 60Da DSLR for astrophotography

Canon has launched the EOS 60Da, a variant of its 60D DSLR tuned for astrophotography. The camera features a re-worked infra-red filter leaving the camera more sensitive to a specific emission frequency (656nm) of hydrogen, key to capturing images of features such as nebulae (gas clouds) in space. The 18MP camera continues where 2005's 8MP EOS 20Da left off. It will be available from a limited number of authorized dealers at a price of around $1499.00.
