Posted on Apr 03, 2012 by MG3

Sony has announced the NEX_FS700 pro-grade 4k-capable E-mount camcorder. The camera will initially offer 1080p video, switchable between 50Hz and 60Hz frame rates (including 60p, 50p, 60i and 24p). A later upgrade will enable 4k capture and Raw output from its built-in 3G-SDI connector. The camera is also able to capture slow-motion footage, shooting at up to 960 fps at reduced resolution (240fps in Full HD). It also offers built-in 2- and 4-stop ND filters (which can be combined), to allow lenses to be used at wide apertures in bright light.

Sony HXR-NX30 camcorder: built-in projector, 96GB storage for $2,500 (video)

Posted on Apr 03, 2012 by MG3

Don't worry, lone gunslingers, today isn't just about the NEX-FS700. Sony's pro range has also been bolstered with the HXR-NX30 for videographers who need to travel light. This model sacrifices interchangeable lenses in favor of a palm-friendly form factor with a 26mm-260mm (35mm equivalent) Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T fixed lens. The camera sports Sony's 'Balanced Optical SteadyShot' technology, which means both the lens and the sensor assembly are floated as a single element to minimize camera shake. Unlike that of the larger NEX-VG20, the HXR-NX30's sensor is shrunken too: it's an Exmor R CMOS that's only slightly larger than 1/3-inch. The North American NX30U variant handles 1920 x 1080 at...

Canon EOS C300 cinema cam gets pre-order status, ships at month's end for $16,000

Canon EOS C300 cinema cam gets pre-order status, ships at month's end for $16,000

Posted on Jan 18, 2012 by MG3

Back in November we joined Martin Scorsese and other Hollywood luminaries at Paramount Studios for the unveiling of Canon's latest cinema video camera, which is now available for pre-order. The EOS C300, that aims to compete directly against the Reds of the world, carries a Super 35mm CMOS sensor capable of up to 4K resolution 1080p capture, and should be helped in large part by the company's top-shelf lenses; like the 14.5 - 60mm and 30 - 300mm. When we first met the C300 we told you it'd be priced at a hefty $20,000, but that's no longer the case, instead it'll cost a less painful $16,000 for the body only. The camera will begin shipping "after January 30th," and if it seems like a little ...

There's also a UXP mode with a 24Mbps sampling rate, an HDMI output and a built-in WiFi module in four of the units. We've seen wireless support pop up on cameras in recent months, and even a few pocket camcorders have managed to get cozy with 802.11b/g/n, but it's not everyday you see a legitimate, Full HD shooter with the stuff. We're told that a free app will be made available for Android and iOS devices, enabling users to wirelessly transfer video and stills to a smartphone for quick sharing via the internet. It also allows the phone to be used as a remote control for t...

Sony reveals Spring Handycam lineup, including HDR-CX760V, XR260V, and CX190

Posted on Jan 10, 2012 by MG3

At CES in Las Vegas, Sony has unveiled what appears to be their entire imaging lineup for 2012, including 13 new Handycam camcorders. Of them, seven models are traditional camcorders, in the sense that they support neither 3D capture nor light projector playback with built-in video projectors.
Most of the announced models have features and specifications that are in lock-step with their projector-equipped equivalents. At the top of the product line, for example, the HDR-CX760V is almost identical to the HDR-PJ760V, minus the projector. This includes Full HD video recording at 24p, with 24.1 megapixel still image capture, and 96 GB of built in flash memory. The CX760V will be an optical Stead...

Sony announces new projector Handycams, including HDR-PJ760V

Posted on Jan 10, 2012 by MG3

Sony has unveiled five new high-end camcorders, all equipped with built-in video projectors for video playback on any smooth surface. Prices will range from $1600 to a relatively affordable $440 model.

Headlining this announcement is the HDR-PJ760V Projector Handycam, a Full HD model that can record using a variety of frame rates and offers 24.1 megapixel still image capture (though that’s likely an interpolated value). The PJ760V will be capable of projecting videos of up to 100 inches diagonally in size, and storing 120 hours of video on 96 GB of internal flash memory. Optical SteadyShot will aim to reduce shakiness while zooming, and the camcorder will be equipped with a full suite of ma...

No new flagship camcorder for Canon at CES

No new flagship camcorder for Canon at CES

Posted on Jan 10, 2012 by MG3

Filed in: CamcordersCanon

The Canon HF G10 will remain Canon’s flagship Vixia camcorder for 2012, and the company is not announcing a new top-line consumer camcorder this year at CES. The Canon HF G10 was a powerful and top-notch camcorder when we reviewed it last year, so it’s likely that this year-old model will still be able to hold its own against the newly-minted competition being released from other manufacturers. Still, Canon’s decision to sit on its top model rather than provide a new version with a few updates is somewhat surprising.
