Sony PS3 gets Amazon Instant Video app, streams purchased movies and Prime subscription content

Posted on Apr 04, 2012 by MG3

Sony's mystery addition to the PlayStation 3's streaming video service lineup is a mystery no more: it's Amazon Instant Video, the online retailer's collection of an estimated 120,000 movies and shows, as well as Prime Instant Video, the roughly 17,000 streaming items included free with a $79 Amazon Prime subscription. That includes recent infusions of content from Discovery, Viacom, ABC-Disney, and Fox. Both services are now accessible from a native PS3 app, downloadable from your console's XMB menu, and run similarly to Netflix or Hulu Plus in that regard. You won't be able to purchase content from Amazon using your PlayStation Store digital wallet, though: you'll need to pair your console...

Game Developers Diss Wii U's Graphics System, Prefer PS3 and Xbox 360

Posted on Apr 04, 2012 by MG3

Barring any last minute surprises, Nintendo will be the first of the big three console makers to come out with a next generation living room game system. It's the Wii U, and it will ship with HD graphics support, a funky new tablet controller, and updated guts that, in theory, should have developers excited. It is, after all, a new toy to play with. So why are a handful of developers dissing the Wii U?

It's the subpar graphics, or at least that's what developers supposedly familiar with the hardware told GamesIndustry International. The developers, who wish to remain anonymous, said the Wii U is "just not as powerful" as the PS3 or Xbox 360, a pair of consoles that have been around the bloc...

Sony has released its latest firmware update for the PS3 taking it to version 4.10. The new update is referred to as being minor, but brings with it a change in the Terms of Service following the PlayStation Network (PSN) being folded into Sony’s larger Sony Entertainment Network. The move continues a trend towards Sony developing a more cohesive and integrated online platform that brings together its movie, music, TV and gaming content.

Sony PlayStation 3 still has 5 more years, says Hirai

Sony PlayStation 3 still has 5 more years, says Hirai

Posted on Jan 11, 2012 by MG1

Sony exec Kazuo Hirai has once again said that the PlayStation 3 game console would live out its projected 10-year lifespan, staying on store shelves for another 5 years. However, rumors have been circling that the company has been working on a next-gen console, which could be unveiled at this year’s E3 conference.
Early last year, Hirai was asked a similar question and had reinforced the point that the PlayStation 3 would be here to stay until its end of life. Although not confirmed, it also doesn’t necessarily mean that the company would wait another five years to introduce the PlayStation 4. Recent reports suggest that Sony could do something similar to Nintendo, which plans to release th...

Netflix app hits PlayStation 3s in the UK, service still coming 'soon'

Netflix app hits PlayStation 3s in the UK, service still coming 'soon'

Posted on Jan 09, 2012 by MG3

Netflix still isn't offering a firm date for its launch in the UK, but it looks like some of the final pieces are starting to fall into place. The company's PlayStation 3 app is now hitting consoles across the pond, displaying the message you see above when it's launched. Unfortunately, that's about all we have to go on at the moment, but PS3 users can now at least rest assured that they won't have any waiting to do when Netflix does finally flip the switch -- one more shot after the break.

White PS3 coming to Europe and Australia in November

Posted on Sep 13, 2011 by MG1

There's nothing a like an (almost) fresh and exciting color variant to make us totally forget about the PS4. Besides, this little dazzler will come with a 320GB HDD and two equally white Dualshock controllers, which means you'll only have to spray-paint your PS3 Move, headset, external drive, wheel and eyebrows to match. Look out for it at GameStop in the UK, Germany and possibly other Euro nations too, as well as at Electronic Boutique in Australia from November 1st -- or just pre-order via the source links below.
