Filed in: Sony

Sony recently announced that it had shipped 10.5 million PlayStation Move controllers — but it kept mum on the number of units actually sold. The company appears to not be too thrilled with the performance of the peripheral, with Sony UK vice-president Fergal Gara admitting to the Official PlayStation Magazine UK that Sony "could have done a much better job" in ensuring that strong Move-enabled gaming titles were available, calling the current crop "not so great" as a whole. While caveating that the Move was better suited to the "casual market," he also stated that Sony has not given up on the device, and that he has "great hope" about what Sony will be able to do with the Move going forward...

Sony appears to have a new device coming down the pipe, appearing as V150 on NenaMark 2 tests. The tablet will be powered by the quad-core Tegra 3 chip, which explains the close to 60fps results in the graphics benchmark test. The submitter is listed as S1, which is also the codename of the first Sony Android tablet, so the V150 is likely a souped-up successor.

Sony applies for 'head control' patent to frustrate non-verbal communicators

The company formerly known as Sony Ericsson applied for a patent in 2010 that's yet to be granted, but you never know, one day it might wind up in a handset near you. Having recently introduced the "floating touch" Xperia Sola that doesn't require your hands to make contact with the display, the next logical step is to make the whole thing controlled just with the movement of your head. Wearing a Bluetooth earpiece with a motion sensor, you then map a custom motion onto a phone action, so shaking your head could answer a call, nodding up and down ends it and going from side-to-side will fire up an app. Designed for when it's not safe to jab at your phone (i.e. driving) we think it's a pretty...

Sony has called the Nokia 808 PureView phone a "development announcement" rather than a consumer product and claims that its 41-megapixel camera is old technology.
The Japanese manufacturer states that it has used similar pixel zoom technology in its cameras for about a year, but does give Nokia a nod for implementing it inside a mobile phone.

Sony Xperia S now has access to PlayStation store

Sony Xperia S now has access to PlayStation store

Posted on Mar 14, 2012 by MG1

During this year's CES in Las Vegas, many smartphone fans became smitten with the Sony Xperia S. With that unique transparent strip about 10% up from the bottom of the phone, Sony has designed a unique handset that is the manufacturer's flagship model. When the phone was launched overseas, Sony did not have time to complete PlayStation support for the model, so those who purchased the Sony Xperia S up to now have had to live with a placeholder link instead of the real live PlayStation Store. But, as you might have guessed from the tone of this piece, things have now changed.
Starting on Tuesday, those who clicked on the app for the PS Store were taken to a web page where the storefront and t...

Sony Tablet P to go '4G' on AT&T this Saturday

Sony Tablet P to go '4G' on AT&T this Saturday

Posted on Mar 02, 2012 by MG1

The dual-screen Sony Tablet P will launch on the AT&T network on March 4th and bring the network's '4G' speeds to the device.
The unique, clam-shell tablet will cost $399, which isn't all that much of a discount, on a two-year contract, with expensive data plans on top of that.
Rather than full 4G LTE internet, users will only have access to the still-pretty-rapid HSPA+ download speeds available on the AT&T network.
Users will need to pay $35 a month for 3GB of mobile data or $50 a month for 5GB of downloads.

Attention, PlayStation gamers – the online PlayStation Network service will be going under the knife on Thursday, March 1 for nearly the entire day. This is to address bugs, optimize performance, and perform necessary maintenance. The service is expected to be down starting at around 11:00 AM Eastern Time and will not be back online until after midnight.
This means that PS3 users will not be able to download videos or games, play online against other players, access services like Netflix or Hulu Plus, sign into Music Unlimited, or do anything that requires an Internet connection. The same goes for anyone trying to access online features on the PSP or PlayStation Vita. In addition, websites t...

PS Vita hits 1.2 million sales worldwide

PS Vita hits 1.2 million sales worldwide

Posted on Feb 29, 2012 by MG1

Sony Computer Entertainment has announced that worldwide sales of its PlayStation Vita handheld console have now exceeded 1.2 million units. In addition, more than 2 million pieces of software for the device have been sold, both at retail and on the PlayStation Network.
Of course, it will have to go some to top the sales figures of its predecessor, the PSP, which has sold more than 71 million units in just over seven years. But Sony can be reasonably proud of its initial results, considering that the PS Vita is a high-performing, high-quality piece of kit, launched during a global monetary recession.
