Sony and Samsung Enforce Minimum Pricing Policy

Sony and Samsung Enforce Minimum Pricing Policy

It looks like the days of retail stores competing for low prices are coming to an end. Today, both Sony and Samsung announced that they will be enforcing minimum pricing for all their HDTVs. This means that the TV will retail for the same exact price, no matter what retailer you purchase it from. This not only eliminates competition between the retailers, but also eliminates the resulting lower retail prices. Sony has already stated that companies who don’t adhere to the minimum pricing policy will have their financing cut off. Given the heavy losses that were reported both companies last year, many wonder if this move is a good idea or not. There is also the possibility that this policy cou...

However, the company has always said that it was continuing development of OLED technology, and if reports coming out of Korea are to be believed its re-entry into the market may not be far off. ET News cites sources with information that Sony has sent engineers to an AU Optronics (AUO) factory in Taiwan in order to collaborate on commercial OLED development. Sony Still Plans to Develop OLED HDTVs

Posted on Jan 18, 2012 by MG3

Filed in: TVsSony

It was announced last week that Sony would be discontinuing development of OLED HDTVs and monitors. Apparently those statements are false as Sony announced that they are still working on OLED-TVs alongside of their new Crystal LED TV that was also announced at CES. The Crystal LED technology uses thousands of tiny LED lights to replace pixels from an LCD screen. By controlling the LED lights, the TV is able to give a better color quality and impressive black levels. The OLED TVs have indeed been discontinued, but it was announced that Sony plans to continue research, development, and produce OLED TV panels. Hopefully Sony will see how the market behaves with the many other companies that are...

X-Reality Pro by Sony

X-Reality Pro by Sony

This has been consistent with recent technology – resolution from our smaller devices or even YouTube doesn’t render clearly when streamed over our larger televisions. Sony’s new televisions will incorporate their X-Reality Pro software into every one of their future Bravia televisions. It properly pixelates what your video or image should look like in real time.
It essentially restores the proper resolution for a low quality video to help make it look great on a TV with such a high pixel density. You may not gather it from the press shot above, but the television shown is making use of the X-Reality technology from a tiny YouTube video with low resolution.

Consumers Show Interest in Smart TVs

Posted on Oct 03, 2011 by MG3

Smart TVs have been a recent addition to the consumer market. They provide internet access to users without the need for an external computer or having only limited access to websites. Today, a study conducted by the Consumer Decision Process stated that 10% of the broadband households that they reviewed stated that they plan to purchase a new Smart TV before the end of 2011. This number has grown from the 6% of households who stated they would in the first half of the year. The households interviewed represent about 50% of the nearly one-fourth of U.S broadband households planning to purchase a flat-panel TV. “Advertising campaigns from manufacturers such as Sony, Samsung, and VIZIO have bo...
