Sprint restarts Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for LG Optimus S
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesLGSprintOptimus S
Way back in September of last year, Sprint released the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for the LG Optimus S smartphone. Unfortunately, it was pulled shortly after launch because users were reporting a number of bugs with the update. This left Optimus S users confused and bewildered as to where their Android 2.3 Gingerbread update went. Well, here we are nearly seven months later, and Sprint says that it will relaunch the update starting on Wednesday of this week. In addition to the improvements that come with Android 2.3, Sprint says the update also includes fixes for device charging, an SD card unmounting error, the device not being recognized by Windows SP, Vista, or 7 operating systems, a...

Visa drops Global Payments following theft of 1.5 million card numbers
Like UnlikeFollowing a massive security breach, Visa has dropped Global Payments from its registry of providers that meet data security standards, The Associated Press reported on Monday. Global Payments CEO Paul Garcia said that the company will continue to process Visa transactions, however being dropped from the registry “could give our partners some pause that they’re doing business with someone who experienced a breach.” Garcia fully expects his company to be reinstated once it has been issued a new report of compliance, although he declined to specify when that might happen. The CEO maintains that the situation is “absolutely contained” and is being fully investigated. Global Payments confirmed o...

Like UnlikeFiled in: Desktop ComputersApple
A redesigned family of Apple’s iMac computers may feature anti-reflective displays, DigiTimes reported on Monday. The Taiwanese publication claimed that G-Tech is ramping up its production capacity of cover glass from 1.8 million units a month to 3 million units, and the company is estimated to produce up to 30% of the total cover glass orders for Apple’s iPad in 2012. According to “industry sources,” G-Tech is also expected to supply anti-reflective glass for Apple’s iMac lineup, which will expand the company’s growth within the industry. The next-generation iMacs are rumored to arrive in the second half of the year, and they will reportedly be slimmer and lighter than the current models.

Who says that pre-paid carriers don't offer interesting phones. Recently, it was announced that Virgin Mobile would be getting the HTC One V and now a reliable source for PocketNow says that Sprint will be handing off the HTC EVO 3D to its pre-paid cousin. Virgin is expected to offer the stereoscopic handset as the HTC EVO V 4G.
The HTC EVO 3D still has some compelling specs today, with a dual-core 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor under the hood with 1GB of RAM. The 4.3 inch screen offers qHD resolution and the dual-lens 5MP camera on back lets you snap 3D pictures. The unit is one of two glasses-free 3D smartphones in the States and will continue to offer 4G hotspot functionality.

ICS reaches 2.9 percent of active Android devices, 63.7 percent still on Gingerbread
Like UnlikeFiled in: Operating SystemsGoogleAndroid 2.3Android 4.0
As we check back in on Android's Platform Versions dashboard for the first time since January, we can finally see notable growth in the percentage of devices running some flavor of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, up for 0.6 percent then to 2.9 percent. That's likely fueled by the release of updates for the Samsung Galaxy S II and HTC Sensation family of devices, and is a sharp uptick from last month when it registered on 1.6 percent. Gingerbread (2.3) still reigns supreme, running 63.7 percent of the Android hardware that accessed the Play market in the last two weeks, but its growth seems to finally be slowing. Last year at this time that position was filled by Android 2.2, with 2.3 on just...

CSIRO snatches $220m windfall in WiFi patent dispute with AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon
Like UnlikeFiled in: Verizon WirelessT-MobileAT&T
Australia's Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization keeps bowling 'em over -- in the courtroom, anyway -- with its hardy WiFi patent. The government-funded research group has chalked up another $220 million win after AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon, Acer, Lenovo and Sony each agreed to establish licenses with the litigious group. CSIRO now holds agreements with 23 companies and has pocketed more than $430 million from its courtroom activities. Australian Senator Chris Evans estimates that 90 percent of the industry is now paying licensing fees for the technology, but with the patent set to expire next year, we'd be mighty paranoid to be among that final ten percent. You'll find ...

LG Optimus S to resume Gingerbread update on April 4th
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesOperating SystemsLGGoogleOptimus SAndroid 2.3
Back last September, Sprint started rolling out the Gingerbread update for the LG Optimus S. But the update had to be halted when owners of the device started having some issues. Some owners were having problems recharging their phone or connecting to data. Other problems included the failure of predictive text to appear while typing on the virtual QWERTY, an incorrect message would appear stating that the microSD card is unmounted, and when connected to a PC, the device was unrecognized by Windows XP, Vista, or Windows 7

New Images Of LG Windows Phone LS831 Emerges
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesOperating SystemsLGMicrosoftWindows Phone 7.5
While we are still not sure about LG releasing another Windows Phone 7.5 device, there were numerous leaks on their devices/prototypes. This one is LS831 which we saw in last October when it passed the FCC. The device design looks outdated to me and it has a 5MP camera along with a front cam. Since it features a CDMA band, it should release only on Sprint in US if there is any possibility. Visit the source link for more images.

Another Long-time Graphics Leader Leaves AMD
Like UnlikeFiled in: Graphic CardsAMD
Just weeks after AMD's CTO of graphics Eric Demers left the company to pursue other opportunities, the company's Director of the Client Technology Unit, Godfrey Cheng, has also jumped ship after serving 12 years.
Cheng was recently part of AMD's high-profile Llano launch. But long before that, he was one of the principle players behind ATI's All-in-Wonder series of graphics cards and TV tuners which debut in 1996. He headed the project from 1998 to 2006, and then moved over to gaming technologies like Avivo and CrossFire for a year as ATI's Director of Marketing, Platform Technologies.
