Did the HTC One V just pass through the FCC?

Did the HTC One V just pass through the FCC?

Posted on Mar 26, 2012 by MG1

A mysterious HTC device just passed through the FCC, and it isn't clear exactly what the device is. There are only a few clues, but it looks like it could be the budget option of HTC's new One series of Android phones, the HTC One V.
The device that passed through the FCC was labeled as model PK76110, which hasn't been fully linked to any specific HTC device as yet. Luckily, HTC doesn't have a very large number of devices slated for release any time soon, so it seems likely that this is a member of the HTC One lineup of Android smartphones. The dimensions of the device in the filing and the radio bands (850MHz & 1900MHz) make it look like it may be the HTC One V.

AT&T rolls out Android 4.0 to HTC Vivid, other devices getting ICS in the 'coming months'

AT&T rolls out Android 4.0 to HTC Vivid, other devices getting ICS in the 'coming months'

Posted on Mar 23, 2012 by MG1

Be still our beating heart. Just two weeks ago we heard Android 4.0 -- that upgrade lovingly referred to as Ice Cream Sandwich -- would be reaching the HTC Vivid "in the coming weeks." We even saw the update trickle in to select devices last week without any official notice from the mother ship. AT&T's finally ready to open the floodgates and pour the refresh out to the masses. This download in particular includes Sense 3.6, but throws in third-party Beats Audio support -- a feature that until now has only been seen in version 4.0. If you're packing a Vivid, just make sure you're hooked up to WiFi and head to the settings to get your download on. If it doesn't find the update yet, you also h...

HTC One V coming to Virgin Mobile?

HTC One V coming to Virgin Mobile?

Posted on Mar 21, 2012 by MG1

The HTC One V is due to launch in the second quarter of this year, and when it does it'll be available on Virgin Mobile, according to Pocketnow. There's no official word from Virgin yet, but the site is also reporting that the smartphone will be available for under $200 — which fits in nicely with the One V's position as the budget option in HTC's One series of devices. Some might be disappointed that Virgin isn't looking to carry the higher-end One S or One X instead, but the One V is more fitting for Virgin's position as a budget player in Sprint's portfolio of brands. Be sure to check out our hands-on with the One V — which includes a 3.7-inch LCD display, a 1GHz processor, and Android 4....

HTC Vivid Android 4.0 Sneaks Out For Some

HTC Vivid Android 4.0 Sneaks Out For Some

Posted on Mar 19, 2012 by MG2

The long road to Android 4.0 for US subscribers seems to be getting shorter; and for some lucky users the time has come. AT&T's HTC Vivid was one of their first LTE devices, and made the list of HTC devices that would be receiving Ice Cream Sandwich. Typically these OTA updates are pushed after extensive testing and to a handful of devices at first. However, as first reported on Android Central, some owners were able to pull the update by dialing *#*#682#*#*. The update includes HTC's updated Sense 3.6 skin, which seems a little less intrusive than their prior iterations and does open up its Beats Audio feature to third party applications for the first time.

HTC One X, One S to launch on April 5 in the U.K.

Posted on Mar 16, 2012 by MG3

First the good news: we have an update regarding the HTC One S and HTC One X release dates. Both smartphones are expected to hit the shelves on April 5. Now the not-so-good news: word comes from sources in the U.K., meaning that the U.S. release dates for the two smartphones may vary. The April 5 release date for the Tegra 3 powered HTC One X comes from U.K. carrier O2, which spilled the beans in a tweet this morning. Meanwhile, online retailer Phones4u is already accepting pre-orders for the HTC One S with shipping expected to begin on that very same day.

Is it patent troll versus patent troll?
A subsidiary of Cascades Ventures, a patent licensing company, has sued RPX Corp, a spinoff of Intellectual Ventures, as well as Dell, Google, HTC, LG, and Motorola Mobility for violations of antitrust law and conspiracy to "monopsonize," or accumulate a monopoly of sorts over the buyer's side of the market.
Cascades Computer Innovation seeks damages and other retribution in a filing dated Mar. 6. For its part, an RPX spokesman said that the company had seen the suit but declined to comment.

HTC Reveals Which Devices Will Unwrap Ice Cream Sandwich

HTC Reveals Which Devices Will Unwrap Ice Cream Sandwich

Posted on Mar 15, 2012 by MG3

Do you own a Droid Incredible 2 by HTC? If so, you can expect a future update to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS). The same applies to the HTC Amaze 4G, Desire S, Desire HD, and a dozen other smartphones HTC has confirmed will be upgraded to ICS. Unfortunately, HTC didn't provide specific dates for any of the planned upgrades, so you'll have to settle for warm fuzzies from simply knowing your device is the list.

HTC Titan II to hit Australia in early April

HTC Titan II to hit Australia in early April

Posted on Mar 14, 2012 by MG1

WPDownunder is reporting that the marketing campaign for the LTE-powered HTC Titan II is starting on the 27th March on the Australian Telstra carrier, with the handset expected to hit the market early in April.
The smartphone is rumoured to be free on a $79 /mo Freedom Connect plan or the cheaper $59 plan, with a $5 /mo MRO free, but pricing has not been confirmed yet.
If it does arrive in the next few weeks it is possible the device will beat the LTE Nokia Lumia 900 to market, at least in Australia and possibly in USA also.
The HTC Titan II features a 4.7 inch screen, 1.5 Ghz processor, 16 GB storage and a 16 megapixel camera, and of course LTE, backed by a 1730mAh battery.

HTC Titan performs vanishing act from UK shelves

HTC Titan performs vanishing act from UK shelves

Posted on Mar 13, 2012 by MG1

The huge HTC Titan has subtly dropped off a number of online retailers with no explanation as to why.
The HTC Titan, which was released last year, rocks a 4.7-inch Super LCD screen, 8MP camera, 16GB internal storage and Windows Phone 7.5 Mango.
Retailers Carphone Warehouse and Phones4U along with networks Vodafone, Orange and T-Mobile all appear to have dropped the HTC Titan from their ranges.
Not so mighty now
It's thought that the HTC Titan may have been dropped due to a lack of demand and poor sales of the handset.

T-Mobile HTC One S shows up in FCC with AWS bands?

T-Mobile HTC One S shows up in FCC with AWS bands?

Posted on Mar 13, 2012 by MG1

It doesn't come right out and say it, but we have a strong suspicion that the HTC PJ40110 -- approved by the FCC today -- refers to T-Mobile's version of the HTC One S. This model offers an AWS 3G radio, in addition to AT&T-friendly 850 /1900 3G bands, and its ID is just a slight nudge from the PJ40100 (global One S). The timing of this seal of approval lines up with T-Mo's spring launch aspirations, and this is one particular device (pun unintended but welcome) we can't wait to see in stores.

HTC Sensation Ice Cream Sandwich update is now live in parts of Europe

HTC Sensation Ice Cream Sandwich update is now live in parts of Europe

Posted on Mar 12, 2012 by MG1

Reports from around the web suggest some HTC Sensation users in Europe have started getting their serving of Ice Cream Sandwich. While we don’t see the pattern HTC is using to rollout the new firmware, it is clear that at first only folks with unlocked devices are getting Android 4.0.3.
The Taiwanese company is strangely quiet (for such a big news), so we keep listening to other people and their reactions. As far as we’ve understood, alongside Ice Cream Sandwich, HTC is also pushing updated version (3.6) of its Sense UI.

Original HTC Magic available on Canada's Rogers for $25.48/month on 1-year contract

Original HTC Magic available on Canada's Rogers for $25.48/month on 1-year contract

Posted on Mar 09, 2012 by MG1

Check this out. Canada’s Rogers Wireless is offering the original HTC Magic to its customers. This is a limited time offer, since only few of these will be offered to hard-core Android fanboys. I can’t imagine anyone wishing a 3-year old device these days, but what do I know. This could easily be a memorabilia item.
I’m not sure which version of Android this baby runs, but I would assume it doesn’t go beyond 2.1 Éclair.
On a sidenote, we must add that HTC has come a long way from Magic, with their modern smartphones looking way, way better. Just take a look at their new One models – all of them look fantastic, or at least I think so.
Anyway, you can check out Rogers’ HTC Magic offer from her...
