The HTC Status might be a sort-of-weird, kind-of-gimmicky (with its dedicated Facebook button and all) little piece of kit, but it’s got at least one thing going for it: it’s the only phone on AT&T running on the latest (phone-friendly) version of Android: v2.3, or “Gingerbread”. Not for long, though.
AT&T has just confirmed that all of the Android phones they released in 2011 will be getting the Gingerbread upgrade treatment.
The phones AT&T confirmed:
HTC Inspire 4G
LG Phoenix
Motorola Atrix 4G
Pantech Crossover
Samsung Captivate
Samsung Infuse 4G
That sure looks like all of AT&T’s 2011 Android line up so far, to me. Anyone spot anything that’s missing?
For those of you whose pre-2011 AT&T...

Motorola posts Atrix 4G's Android 2.3 upgrade, adds 1080p
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesOperating SystemsMotorolaGoogleAndroid 2.3ATRIX 4G
Motorola gave Atrix 4G owners a treat at the end of the week by posting its Android 2.3 update. The update brings both the performance, polish, and interface updates of 2.3 itself as well as updates to Motorola's custom tweaks, including ones that haven't shown on other Motorola Android 2.3 revisions. Among the surprises is an upgrade to 1080p movie playback that helps it compete even with newer phones.
MotoBlur has been given both core and secondary updates. The UI layer now has an iPhone-style app dock, notifications can be cleared one at a time, and the app tray is now sortable. Media gets a lift through a gallery app that now aggregates more online and offline sources, and the music play...

LG Optimus 3D getting the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update in October
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesOperating SystemsLGGoogleAndroid 2.3Optimus 3D
British version of the LG Optimus 3D won’t get the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update before October. We’ve no idea what’s wrong here since by that time Google may easily launch the latest version of Android – Ice Cream Sandwich. The good news, however, is that LG’s forthcoming update will also come with some special features, custom-made to take advantage of the 3D screen. As a result, once the Optimus 3D gets that new software, 2D to 3D conversion will be possible on the fly for applications and games as long as they [apps and games] are based on OpenGL. Kinda neat though I’m not sure that justifies waiting for October, especially when we know that the competing product (HTC Evo 3D) offers the...

The Samsung Galaxy Tab on Sprint may have just received its update to Android 2.3 Gingerbread, but there are many Tabs across the world that have yet to see the update. It looks like users in the UK will be able to enjoy the benefits of Gingerbread in only a few weeks if new information from Samsung is to be believed.
According to information obtained from a Samsung rep by Recombu, Galaxy Tabs in the UK that are not tied to a specific carrier will be able to update to Android 2.3 Gingerbread "within the next few weeks." It will require users to update through Samsung's KIES desktop software. As far as those Galaxy Tabs that are tied to networks, only O2 revealed any information, and it hope....

HTC Desire Gingerbread action coming in July
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesOperating SystemsHTCGoogleDesireAndroid 2.3
The will it, won't it saga seems close to an end now with HTC stating that the Android 2.3 update for the HTC Desire "will begin rolling out...by the end of July".
The statement was made on the UK HTC Facebook page - the same place the company stated back in June that the device wouldn't be getting the update as "there isn’t enough memory to allow us both to bring Gingerbread and keep the HTC Sense experience on the HTC Desire".
HTC, just a day later, backtracked though saying: "Contrary to what we said earlier, we are going to bring Gingerbread to HTC Desire" and admitting that "to resolve Desire's memory issue and enable the upgrade to Gingerbread" it would be ditching some apps.

HTC claims Desire will get Gingerbread by the end of July
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesOperating SystemsHTCGoogleDesireAndroid 2.3
Android OS upgrades are the most fickle of all things, even when you are told over and over that it will be coming soon, soon never seems to arrive. At this point T-Mobile G2X users may never see their update even though they have another reason to believe, because they've been hearing that it is "coming soon" or coming "in less than a month" since the phone was released back in April. HTC, however, has been better about upgrades than many manufacturers, and they are claiming now that HTC Desire users will be getting Gingerbread by the end of the month.
At first, Desire users were told not to even expect Gingerbread, then a day later, they recanted and said Gingerbread would be coming to th...

Gingerbread gains, Froyo fades in the latest Android breakdown
Like UnlikeFiled in: Operating SystemsGoogleAndroid 2.2Android 2.3
In the latest report on Android builds, Froyo (2.2) still can be found in a majority (59.4%) of devices running Google's open source OS. The data covers the 2 weeks up to July 5th, and since the last survey Android 2.2 has dropped from a 64.6% reading. The version of the OS that has picked up the slack is the hard-charging Gingerbread which now can be found in 18.6% of Android devices. That number is double the percentage that Gingerbread had in the last report.
Gingerbread itself can be broken down. Android 2.3.3-2.3.4 has a 17.6% slice of the Android pie while Android 2.3-2.3.2 is in just 1% of the total Android universe. The latest version of Gingerbread, Android 2.3.4, supports gTalk, ...

Sony's quartet of high-end Android smartphones including the Xperia arc, play, neo and pro might just have gotten updated to Android 2.3.3, but the engineers over at SE are already testing and working on delivering the latest version of Android Gingerbread, 2.3.4, according to an unspecified source quoted by SE-centric Semcblog. The update will bring bug fixes, but it will also patch some security holes and add new functionalities like Sony's audio filtering xLOUD technology to the handsets. It's expected to roll out widely in October.
The latest Gingerbread is not coming to earlier models like the X10 mini, X10 mini pro or the X8, but we already know that an unspecified version of Gingerbre...

HTC Desire Android 2.3 update enters testing phase

HTC has announced that its long-awaited Gingerbread update for the HTC Desire has entered internal testing.
The update will provide the HTC Desire with a slightly stripped-down version of the software, with some apps having to be abandoned to free up memory required by the Gingerbread update.
It's been a rollercoaster ride for Desire owners; HTC had originally promised the update, then decided it couldn't deliver it and then changed its mind again a day later, saying that it would be bringing the update out after all.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab seems like it has been left in the dust by its sexier Android tablet counterparts – the Motorola Xoom and its successor, the Galaxy Tab 10.1 and 8.9. The latter tablets are sporting Honeycomb, a version of Android meant for large screens, while the more portable Galaxy Tab with its 7-inch display is still rocking Froyo.
