For instance, those of you who bought the device from Canada’s Rogers Wireless are still waiting for the official firmware upgrade. Your wait is over with Rogers and LG rolling out the new software as we speak, while all new customers will get the device with Android 2.3.5 preloaded.

LG Optimus 3D 2 images leak

Posted on Jan 24, 2012 by MG1

Images and specs of a new LG phone codenamed the “CX2″ were recently leaked. The phone is thought to possibly be the successor to the Optimus 3D and may be unveiled during the Mobile World Congress trade show in Barcelona next month. Pocketnow, which leaked the image and specs, says the CX2 sports a dual-core Texas Instruments processor clocked at 1.2GHz, a NOVA display capable of displaying 3D content, a 5-megapixel camera capable of snapping 3D photos, 8GB of storage, Bluetooth 3.0, NFC and support for 21Mbps HSPA+ networks. The phone could launch as soon as this spring, but unfortunately the phone is said to run on Google’s older Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) operating system rather than Ice ...

More Optimus handsets will receive Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade, LG confirms

Posted on Nov 29, 2011 by MG1

LG's list of Android 4.0 phones is about to get a little longer, now that the manufacturer has confirmed the arrival of Ice Cream Sandwich for even more handsets. LG revealed the news today in a Facebook post, specifying that the Optimus Black, Optimus 3D and Optimus LTE will all receive updates to Google's latest OS, along with the previously announced Optimus 2X. The company also said that it's "continuing to evaluate the ICS OS to determine whether it is compatible with the functionality, features and performance of other LG smartphones," adding that it hopes to bring the update to as many devices as possible. LG hasn't provided any concrete timeline for the rollout, though it expects to ...

Galaxy S II and Optimus 3D get Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich ports

Galaxy S II and Optimus 3D get Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich ports

Posted on Nov 21, 2011 by MG15

While the U.S. is still patiently awaiting the official release of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, our favorite phone in Android-land at the moment has just received an Ice Cream Sandwich port. That phone would be the Samsung Galaxy S II and there’s even a video to show off that Ice Creamy goodness. To top it off, the LG Optimus 3D has also seen an Android 4.0 port.

Now that the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich source code has been unleashed to the world, ports of the latest version of the mobile OS will start to become a normal thing. That said, having ICS on the Galaxy S II must be a real treat, so to speak, but don’t get too excited just yet. Like many new developments of the sort, there’s not a...

Optimus 3D Gingerbread update coming, world shrugs, stares wistfully at Ice Cream Sandwich

Optimus 3D Gingerbread update coming, world shrugs, stares wistfully at Ice Cream Sandwich

Posted on Nov 16, 2011 by MG1

So we thought an update was coming last month, but like those three-dimensional phantasms the Optimus 3D is capable of conjuring, it appears it wasn't really there. LG now plans to lump the 2D to 3D app convertor, camera upgrades and some more nuggets into its feet-dragging Gingerbread upgrade, starting this month. Alongside 3D video editing and automatic image-stabilization, the customized version of Android 2.3 will unleash a speedier HSPA+ connection boosting maximum download speeds to 21Mbps, and "advanced copy/paste" -- something we're very excited about. LG also promises longer music playback from the upgraded 3D phone, with the software refresh pegged to start on carrier-unlocked hand...

Gingerbread update for LG Optimus 3D starts rolling out next week

Gingerbread update for LG Optimus 3D starts rolling out next week

Posted on Nov 15, 2011 by MG1

Remember that early Gingerbread ROM for the LG Optimus 3D? Sure, it was in a state too crude to be used on a daily basis, but it was good for one thing, namely spoiling the surprise by revealing what goodies the upcoming update is about to bring.
Well, the Gingerbread update for the LG Optimus 3D is now officially starting to roll out next week, November 21 to be precise. Europeans who own and unlocked version of the smartphone will be the first to try it out, yet additional markets and handset variations will be added to the list by the year's end.
What the Gingerbread update adds is pretty much what we already know thanks to the aforementioned leak. Editing footage on the Optimus 3D will b...

LG Optimus 2X finally gets the Gingerbread update; Optimus 3D and Optimus Black later in November

LG Optimus 2X finally gets the Gingerbread update; Optimus 3D and Optimus Black later in November

Posted on Nov 04, 2011 by MG1

LG is pretty crappy when it comes to firmware updates with their Optimus 2X being one of the last devices to get the Gingerbread treatment. Those of you living in Europe with the “world’s first smartphone with a dual-core processor” can finally get Android 2.3 update from LG — in case you haven’t took the “unofficial” route and rooted your way to Gingerbread.
Unfortunately, this update is only for folks who bought the unlocked device with no carrier subsidies and it’s still unclear when every Optimus 2X owner will get it. We’ll keep our eyes wide open and let you know as soon as we hear something new on that front.

LG Optimus 3D Android 2.3 update adds 21Mbps 3G

Posted on Nov 03, 2011 by MG1

LG Optimus 3D owners are finally going to receive an update from Android 2.2 (Froyo) to Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) by the end of November, around the same time as Android 4.0 is expected to officially land. The update brings with it the usual suite of improvements that come with the upgrade, as well as some Optimus 3D extras. A leaked build that recently leaked shows that the update is based on Android 2.3.5.
The special extras included for Optimus 3D users are better 3D video capturing as well as enhancements to 2D and 3D video editing. 3D to 2D conversion is also improved. Certain units will also benefit from faster HSPA+ cellular data with speeds up to 21Mbps.

LG Optimus 3D gets its 3D game converter via software update

LG Optimus 3D gets its 3D game converter via software update

Posted on Oct 04, 2011 by MG1

The 3D game converter that LG announced would be coming to the Optimus 3D smartphone is now being pushed to the device via a software update. If you remember from August when the feature was announced, the 3D game converter will allow users to convert 2D games into 3D on-the-fly on their 3D-enabled smartphones.
Nearly any game that uses OpenGL graphics can be converted from 2D into 3D using the software, but LG is compiling a list of officially supported titles. Games that are not on LG's supported list can be forced into 3D mode, but the manufacturer does not guarantee that the conversion will work.
The software update for the Optimus 3D does not include Android 2.3 Gingerbread unfortunatel...

If you somehow managed to beat every single 3D enabled game available for the LG Optimus 3D, then there’s no doubt that you’re a serious gamer at heart of course. Exhausting all of your resources, you might actually be tempted to once again experience 2D games instead.

LG Optimus 3D getting the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update in October

LG Optimus 3D getting the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update in October

Posted on Jul 20, 2011 by MG1

British version of the LG Optimus 3D won’t get the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update before October. We’ve no idea what’s wrong here since by that time Google may easily launch the latest version of Android – Ice Cream Sandwich. The good news, however, is that LG’s forthcoming update will also come with some special features, custom-made to take advantage of the 3D screen. As a result, once the Optimus 3D gets that new software, 2D to 3D conversion will be possible on the fly for applications and games as long as they [apps and games] are based on OpenGL. Kinda neat though I’m not sure that justifies waiting for October, especially when we know that the competing product (HTC Evo 3D) offers the...
