Team Black Hat's got a trick or two up its (we assume) matching black sleeve and it smells like Gingerbread 2.3.3 to us. Released via the hacking outfit's eponymous non-Android market app, this unofficial upgrade ups your Droid Charge's ante -- literally, as the app costs $2.99. Available in both carrier-bloat and non-bloated varieties, custom ROM-flashing addicts can now take this leak for a spin, and always downgrade via P3Droid's handy tweeted directions. Cost-conscious Charge owners shouldn't feel sidelined since the generous blokes behind TBH intend on distributing this gratis... in the next 48 hours. Orange UK's HTC Desire HD getting Android 2.3 update as we speak

Orange UK's HTC Desire HD getting Android 2.3 update as we speak

Posted on Jun 29, 2011 by MG1

Orange UK and HTC have started rolling out Android 2.3 Gingerbread updates for the Desire HD. If you’re in the “affected” group you can already check to see whether a new update is available. If it isn’t – don’t worry. I’m sure HTC’s servers are dying at the moment as the company tries to push the software to all users.
You probably know what Gingerbread brings, so I won’t repeat it here. Still I’ll mention the improved Copy/Paste which actually makes the functionality usable.
As usual, we remind you it’s good practice to backup all of your PIM data (contacts and calendars) before updating. Your stuff may be in the cloud, but having a local copy is always a plus. When you’re done with that —...

Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread, Updated Motoblur UI Headed To Motorola Atrix 4G Next Month

Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread, Updated Motoblur UI Headed To Motorola Atrix 4G Next Month

Posted on Jun 24, 2011 by MG1

For those of you who own the Motorola Atrix 4G, you know that it does all kinds of cool things. For one, it turns into a little laptop when you clip it into its corresponding laptop dock. It’s also the first dual-core smartphone to launch in the U.S., so it was the trend-setter of snappiness, if you will. One thing the Atrix 4G doesn’t do, however, is run Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread, at least not until next month. That’s right Atrix owners, you’re in for a real Gingerbread treat.
Motorola will release the latest version of the Motoblur UI alongside the OTA update, which should fix some of the kinks in the interface. Sometimes heavy skins like the Motoblur UI ruin the fun of an OS update becaus...

It looks like Motorola is unlocking the Atrix bootloader with the Gingerbread update

It looks like Motorola is unlocking the Atrix bootloader with the Gingerbread update

Posted on Jun 23, 2011 by MG1

Motorola had said that they would change their policy on locking bootloaders by Q3 of this year, but the changes look like they're starting early. BriefMobile has confirmed through a leaked Gingerbread update for the Motorola Atrix 4G that the update will allow easy unlocking of the bootloader.
The Gingerbread update for the Atrix is scheduled to be released over-the-air in July, and will update the phone to Android 2.3.3, which unfortunately means that the phone still won't be able to use the new video chat in GTalk which requires 2.3.4. But, the update will allow the use of the traditional fastboot oem unlock command to unlock the bootloader. And, an unlocked bootloader means full support...

HTC Thunderbolt getting Android 2.3.4 update, Skype Video on June 30th

Posted on Jun 21, 2011 by MG1

HTC Thunderbolt owners, here’s a piece of good news for you. Your LTE-enabled smartphone will get the Android 2.3.4 update on June 30th! And while that’s great news for itself, there’s more — aside from the latest flavor of Gingerbread, the software upgrade will also bring video calls, including GTalk and check this, Skype Video. Yep, we’ve been waiting this for quite some time now and had to rely on other apps like Tango to beam our ugly faces to the unlucky recipient on the other side of the line. No more, he or she will soon be able to “enjoy” the sight using the familiar Skype interface. That said, I do expect to lose a contact or two from my Skype list in the next few days, but hey – so...

Sony Ericsson has confirmed that the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for the XPERIA X10 is scheduled to arrive in early August, though not everybody with the handset will get the new ROM. Those with generic trade models – i.e. sold unlocked and SIM-free – will get the update first (you can see Sony Ericsson’s demo of Gingerbread on the X10 after the cut), but only select operator-supplied X10 variants will get it after that.
