RIM launches BlackBerry Mobile Fusion
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesTabletsRIM BlackBerry
RIM announced BlackBerry Mobile Fusion last November, a new enterprise service that will allow companies to manage multiple types of devices from a single, web-based interface, and the company says the service will launch today. The service can manage smartphones running BlackBerry 7 or earlier, PlayBook tablets, and tablets and smartphones running Android and iOS. RIM says that Mobile Fusion will allow IT managers to activate and configure devices and profiles for various phones, enable access to enterprise services, deploy apps, and detect jailbreaks and roots. RIM hasn't traditionally provided much support for competing devices over the years, but Mobile Fusion is probably a necessary con...

Microsoft cracks top 20 list of Linux contributors, not entirely by choice
Like UnlikeFiled in: Microsoft
In its newest annual report, the Linux Foundation has announced that, for the first time, Microsoft is one of the 20 largest contributors to the Linux kernel. The company added one percent of the kernel's new code between 2010's 2.6.36 release and the 3.2 version released in January (the newest stable version is 3.3.1) — quite a stark contrast from 2001, when CEO Steve Ballmer famously referred to the open source project as "a cancer."

Sony releases (and pulls) PS Vita firmware v1.65
Like UnlikeFiled in: Game ConsolesSonyPSVITA
Sony has announced, released, and withdrawn the next firmware update for the PS Vita in the space of a day. Version 1.65 of the handheld console's software was set to make some minor usability tweaks including the ability to turn notifications on and off, extend the time before the system automatically goes to sleep from five to ten minutes (a welcome addition), and a caps lock function for the onscreen keyboard. Vita owners had a very small window of opportunity in which to acquire these features, though, as Sony soon pulled the update due to "a technical fault" — reportedly an issue with adhoc wireless functionality in PSP games. We'll be sure to let you know once the update goes back up o...

Plantronics BackBeat Go headset sports tangle-free cord, 'rich' stereo sound
Like UnlikeFiled in: HeadphonesPlantronicsBackBeat GO
Plantronics has made a name for itself in the wireless headset space, but there's plenty of room to grow when it comes to premium stereo offerings. BackBeat Go is the company's smallest and lightest wireless earbud set to date, tipping the scale at 13 grams, or "about the weight of three nickels." The cordless rig includes a pair of earbuds linked with a flat tangle-free cord, with inline controls to adjust volume and an integrated mic for calls. The Bluetooth-enabled Go can sync up with one device at a time, so you'll need to repeat the pairing process if switching between phones or to a tablet -- and you should be able to snag 4.5 hours of listening and talk time or 10 hours of standby wit...

The pictures include a Telus-branded home screen, the back of the square-cornered phone, and an information page that shows it running Windows Phone OS build 8107. That suggests that this might be a relatively recent photograph. The phone's name is given as the LG E740H, a variant of the E740 name that's been associated with the Miracle before.

It appears that either Barnes & Noble played a very low-key April Fool’s joke on unsuspecting NOOK lovers this week, or they’re bringing a NOOK Audio device to the market very soon. What we’re seeing today is a NOOK Audio model number OE250 page on Barnes & Noble thanks to intrepid searchers at The Digital Reader where they also note that the company filed for a trademark for that name all the way back in February (last month.) Will Barnes & Noble be releasing an MP3 player soon?

If you're a Gmail or Android user, chances are you've got a well-populated contacts list, and now information on that list will automatically show up in a Google+ user's "about" section — for your eyes only. It's a minor update, but a useful one, and something that most smartphones and other services already do when they sync contact information from multiple sources.
