Google today added new calling and contact management controls to its Google Voice product. The new tools give Google Voice users greater control over who can reach their Google Voice number. The controls come in the form of new address book groupings. Moving forward, numbers that appear in a user's address book can be given individual settings, such as dedicated greetings for specific people. The tool can also be used as a white-label service to screen people who aren't in the contact book. Google Voice users can now lump together anonymous/unknown callers and specify select actions for all such calls as a group. The controls are available via the Google Voice web interface, but impact beha...

Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesNOKIAAmazon808 PureView
The Nokia Pureview 808 is an average smartphone with a plethora of ordinary features except for one: it has a 41MP Carl Zeiss lens. Photography enthusiasts can rejoice because it’s now available for pre-order on Amazon UK.
Now hold on just a second. Is this thing really capable of snapping photos with a 41 megapixel resolution? If you look closely at Nokia’s advertising, it says that the Pureview 808 has astounding 41MP “image quality.” This means that the photos it does take have quality comparable to a 41MP photo, but in a nutshell, no it does not take 41MP photos.

Apple - purchases Redmatica Italian music startup
Like UnlikeFiled in: Apple
Apple has reportedly purchased Redmatica, an Italian startup that specializes in digital music editing apps, according to Fanpage. The Italian blog cites a weekly bulletin from Italy’s antitrust regulatory agency, AGCM, who has approved the purchase. Redmatica is the creator of four Mac-specific music editing applications, including Keymap Pro, AutoSampler, ProManager, and GBSampler Manager. The company’s revenue last year was less than €100,000, with an income of €26,000, meaning an Apple buyout would not be costly. The Cupertino-based company is likely interested in an “acqui-hire” and looking to integrate Redmatica’s employees into Apple’s own Logic Pro and Garageband teams.

Sony Playstation 4: includes optical drive, not download-only
Like UnlikeFiled in: Game ConsolesSonyPlayStation 4
Sony considered removing the optical drive from its next-generation Playstation gaming console, The Wall Street Journal reported. The Japanese electronics maker decided against a download-only model, however, because “Internet connectivity is too inconsistent around the world.” Removing the optical drive would have also hurt the adoption of Blu-ray, which Sony heavily pushed with its Playstation 3. The next-generation PlayStation, codename Orbis, is rumored to launch during the holiday season of 2013. It has been reported that the system will feature an AMD x64 CPU and AMD Southern Islands GPU capable of running games at a resolution of 4,096 x 2,160 pixels.

Intel Ultrabooks Will Get Free Wi-Fi Almost Everywhere and Auto-Update from Your Bag
Like UnlikeFiled in: NotebooksIntel
The "ultrabook" designation doesn't mean too too much, since manufacturers constantly look for ways to skirt around Intel's sorta-arbitrary specs. But just being on Team Intel's gonna get a few new perks, with its new deal to get all ultrabooks free, automatic, no-login access to 5.6 million Wi-Fi hotspots.
The deal with Devicescape will use a custom DNS query to let ultrabooks log in without going through the whole process. That'll allow Intel's autoupdating Smart Connect tech to, say, refresh your email or RSS or Twitter feed while you're at a coffee shop, without ever taking your laptop out of your bag. Pretty cool!
