Steve Wozniak Slams US Government On Megaupload Case
Like UnlikeKim Dotcom may be the king of bad taste, but the Feds' handling of his criminal case is pretty bad, according to Apple co-founder—and Gizmodo hero/friend—Steve Wozniak:
When crimes occur through the mail, you don't shut the post office down. When governments dream up charges of 'racketeering' for a typical IT guy who is just operating a file-sharing service, or accuse him of mail fraud because he said he had removed files [to alleged infringing content] when he'd just removed the links to them, this is evidence of how poorly thought out the attempt to extradite him is. Prosecutors are attempting to take advantage of loopholes.

T-Mobile Galaxy Note press shot outed - July 11th release date
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesSamsungT-MobileGALAXY Note
If you’ve been wanting to get your hands on a Samsung Galaxy Note via T-Mobile, it looks like you don’t have much longer to wait. A press shot of a T-Mobile branded Galaxy Note has leaked out, and rumor has it that the popular tablet/phone hybrid will be making its way to Magenta shelves on July 11th.
At the beginning of the month, Samsung stated that the company has already moved over 7 million Galaxy Notes, which is impressive for a device of its kind. The Note is a large device, and we’re pretty sure Samsung didn’t think it was going to take off the way it did. Well, lucky for them, the Note is selling well and having it on another carrier in the US should boost the sales even more.

Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsGoogle
The Internet is the ultimate tattletale, blabber mouth, and gossip queen. If there's a secret to be heard, the Internet usually knows about it, and then turns around the tells the world. Or in this case, shows the world. The latest bit of gossp revolves around Google's upcoming Nexus 7 tablet to be revealed at the company's I/O Conference this week, at least officially. Unofficially, the Web is waving around a leaked training document detailing the Nexus 7, including what it will look like.

Remembering Alan Turing at 100
Like UnlikeAlan Turing would have turned 100 this week, an event that would have, no doubt, been greeted with all manner of pomp -- the centennial of a man whose mid-century concepts would set the stage for modern computing. Turing, of course, never made it that far, found dead at age 41 from cyanide poisoning, possibly self-inflicted. His story is that of a brilliant mind cut down in its prime for sad and ultimately baffling reasons, a man who accomplished so much in a short time and almost certainly would have had far more to give, if not for a society that couldn't accept him for who he was.

Software fault results in 'a large number' of UK bank freezes
Like UnlikeA software glitch affecting the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) and its subsidiaries, Ulster Bank and NatWest, has left a "large number" of customers unable to access their funds, according to BusinessWeek. The problems began last Tuesday as a result of a system outage that left a rolling backlog of transactions unprocessed. It's this backlog that's troubling RBS now — the company has been working on balancing the transactions since the error occurred, and will continue to work into the evenings and the weekend, but customers have already been thoroughly inconvenienced. A woman named Louise Collins told BusinessWeek that the bank has shown her balance as zero since last Tuesday, and that she ha...

MIT-developed video software can see your pulse
Like UnlikeResearchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology are developing a new kind of software that's able to amplify subtle variations between frames of a video so that you can actually see a person's pulse. By changing the frequencies of the software, it's possible to view things such as the way the skin on your face changes color due to blood flow, or the pulsing of your wrist. The software shows both the original and amplified versions side-by-side, making it easy to pick out the differences.

VLC Media Player finally coming to Android
Like UnlikeFiled in: Operating SystemsGoogleAndroid
Now this was a long wait. We did hear “VLC coming to Android” stories back in 2010, but now the launch is imminent, with VideoLAN turning to Twitter to spread the good news. Their tweet simply says “Android, here we come!” which seems enough for some users, whereas some others are still asking for the exact date. Honestly I can’t imaging folks who made one of the most popular media players having any technical difficulties with Android, but what do I know. I’m just a mobile tech blogger who enjoys using VLC on his computer and can’t wait to try it out on his Samsung Galaxy S II, too. Needless to say, we’ll follow this story and you’ll be the first to know when VLC finally hits Google Play. S...

Larry Page Sick? Missed events make Google CEO's health questionable
Like UnlikeFiled in: Google
The health of Google co-founder and chief executive Larry Page has been called into question following the CEO’s absence from Google’s shareholders’ meeting on Thursday. Chairman Eric Schmidt stated that Page skipped the meeting due to a voice condition, but Google also said Page would not be present at the Google I/O developer conference next week, or at the company’s second-quarter earnings call in July while his voice recovers. JP Morgan analyst Doug Anmuth on Friday pondered to clients whether or not the CEO’s health problem is being downplayed by Google.

HTC's plan for Windows Phone 8
Like UnlikeFiled in: Operating SystemsMicrosoftWindows Phone 8
Just a few days ago, Microsoft unveiled some of the bigger features it was working on in its upcoming Windows Phone 8 platform, which is set to launch in the fall. Windows Phone has failed to really take off in the United States, partly due to few carriers supporting the platform, but also due to several manufacturers holding off on the platform until it was more fully baked.
We learned on Wednesday that carrier partners were lining up in droves to get behind the Windows Phone 8 platform, and yesterday The Verge learned of HTC’s plans for the fall. According to a tipster familiar with the matter, HTC is preparing three Windows Phone 8 devices, a high-end device named “Zenith,” a mid-ranged p...
