One of the many reasons to buy an NVIDIA Tegra 2-powered device is support for Tegra Zone, NVIDIA’s exclusive gaming portal. Qualcomm is looking to combat the feature, however, and the company announced its own gaming portal on Thursday dubbed the Snapdragon GameCommand. Similar to Tegra Zone, GameCommand will have exclusive content that offers Snapdragon-optimized games for Qualcomm-powered devices. The app will initially only be available in North America and will be released in the Android Market on January 10th. Will we also see an O-Zone for OMAP-optimized games pop up soon? One can only wish. Read on for Qualcomm’s press release.

Benchmark test results suggest quad-core Toshiba tablet in works

Benchmark test results suggest quad-core Toshiba tablet in works

Posted on Jan 04, 2012 by MG1

Looks like Toshiba has a quad-core tablet coming, powered by the NVIDIA Tegra 3. Using the code name of "toshiba06", a common early code name for Toshiba tablets, the device was put through the paces at the AnTuTu benchmark web site. The results showed a processor clock speed of 1.4GHz and like the rest of the benchmark test, produced results similar to that scored by the Asus Transformer Prime. Considering that the latter is powered by the NVIDIA Tegra 3, it is possible that the Toshiba unit has the same processor under the hood.

It'll be very interesting to see ARM development and implementation in the years to come.

EE Times reports NVIDIA is betting on ARM to be more efficient for supercomputers than x86: In a recent interview, Nvidia’s Sumit Gupta, director of Tesla marketing, said the only real advantage to x86 systems was that they could run operating systems like Microsoft Windows faster, but that when it came to needing maximum performance on minimum power, ARM was the future, and therefore a better option for supercomputing.

NVIDIA announces special edition GTX 560 Ti with 448 CUDA cores, available now for $289

Posted on Nov 30, 2011 by MG1

Now that we're officially in the throes of holiday shopping season, NVIDIA's rolling out a promotion of its own, though sadly it doesn't involve any steep discounts. The outfit just announced a special edition GPU: the GTX 560 Ti with 448 CUDA cores, running at 1.46GHz, a 732MHz graphics clock and 1.25GB of GDDR5 memory charging ahead at an effective rate of 3.8GHz. Other features include support for three-way SLI, DisplayPort, HDMI and DVI. Those specs place it snugly between the current GTX 560 Ti with 384 CUDA cores, and the higher-end GTX 570, which packs 480. If this seems like a puzzling move, it is indeed the first time NVIDIA's bothered with a limited holiday edition card, though in ...

For now ASUS' Transformer Prime is the lonely king of the quad-core tablet hill, but as we'd heard a few weeks back, it looks like it'll have company soon enough. Insider sources have reported to DigiTimes that you'll be able to snag a nifty Android tablet with a quad-core GPU for between $459 and $599 in 2012. Acer and Lenovo are apparently set to target Apple's iPad tablet as well as ASUS with NVIDIA's quad-core Tegra 3 GPU tablets running Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) in the first quarter of 2012. These sources also stated that since neither Acer nor Lenovo have a direct advantage over Apple or Amazon's tablet devices, they'd only be competing for about 10 to 15 percent of the total PC...

As proof of this, NVIDIA has released a demo video that gives us one of our first looks at Ice Cream Sandwich on a tablet and showcases some of the new features of Android 4.0.

So far what is the biggest threat to the iPad’s largely unchallenged supremacy in the tablet market? The answer has certainly got to be Amazon's Kindle Fire, which sports a very enticing $200 price tag. Even though the Kindle Fire is probably the only non-iPad tablet to have generated iPad-like buzz, it's not the only affordable tablet on the market. The ranks of sub-$300 tablets are constantly swelling. And if NVIDIA CEO Jen-Hsun Huang is right, soon there will be a number of Tegra 3 tablets in this price range.

But exactly how soon, you ask? Well, in a couple of quarters according to Huang. He made this claim while talking to media persons in New York on Friday. Apparently, he was in a mo...

Pardon us if we keep talking games, but we’re just as caught up in Skyrim fever as the rest of the world. While we’re talking Tamriel, is your PC primed and ready for fighting dragons in the Nordic mountains? Yesterday, Nvidia released a new Geforce 285.79 beta driver that included, amongst other things, improved SLI and 3D Vision support for – you guessed it – Skyrim (which now garners an “Excellent” 3D Vision rating by Nvidia, by the way).
Nvidia also recommends that Battlefield 3 players download the new drivers, thanks to a trio of improvements specific to that title. Check out the full list of improvements below, and if they pique your interest, head on over to Nvidia’s beta drivers pag...

Asus Transformer Prime announced: World's first NVIDIA Tegra 3 tablet is official

Posted on Nov 09, 2011 by MG1

The time many of you have been waiting for has finally arrived. Not only have we just got our first real look at NVIDIA’s quad-core processor, the Tegra 3, but now we have more information on the very first tablet that will be using the snappy SoC, the Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime.
The Transformer Prime is a significant upgrade from the still-popular original. However, the Prime in its name is there for a reason. The tablet is being marketed as a premium tablet, and of course, it is. Because of that, the pricing for the Transformer Prime isn’t the same as the original, which was aimed at the mainstream consumer. That said, if you’re looking to be the cock of the walk with your next tablet ...

Nvidia Preps GF110-based GeForce GTX 560 Ti‎ Upgrade

Nvidia Preps GF110-based GeForce GTX 560 Ti‎ Upgrade

Posted on Nov 01, 2011 by MG1

This new Ti will, if VR-Zone is right, be based on the GF110 chip, which makes it a close relative to the 570 and 580 models. It will also mean a drop of the current GF114.
The publication reports that the new 560 Ti will essentially be a 570 with 14 (and one disabled) streaming multiprocessor with a total of 448 cores, up from the current 384. It is more than likely that the clock speed will be below that of the 570. Expect to see the 320-bit memory interface with 56 TMUs and 40 ROPs.
The likely performance gain is pure speculation at this time, but I will make an educated guess that the card will be consuming more power than the 170 W of the current 560 Ti and move closer to the 219 W of t...
