It doesn't seem that long ago when the Qualcomm Snapdragon 1GHz processor seemed so new and fast. The dual-core period seemed to go by in a heartbeat and now smartphones are being delivered with a quad-core processor under the hood. NVIDIA's Tegra 3 is driving the international version of the HTC One X, for example and by the end of the year, the quad-core Tegra 4 will be shipped by the manufacturer. There are already rumored specs for the chip which is expected to be produced with the same 28nm manufacturing process used on the dual-core Qualcomm S4. The latter is what you will find in AT&T's variant of the HTC One X when it is launched. In comparison, the Tegra 3 uses a 40nm manufacturing ...

WHQL-Certified GTX 680 Drivers Limit Sandy Bridge-E To PCI-E 2.0 Speeds

WHQL-Certified GTX 680 Drivers Limit Sandy Bridge-E To PCI-E 2.0 Speeds

Posted on Mar 26, 2012 by MG1

If you've dropped the dough on a spiffy new enthusiast-level Sandy Bridge-E processor, you may decide to drop a corresponding level of dough on a spiffy new enthusiast-level Nvidia HTX 680 graphics card. (If so, we salute your Maximum-ness.) There's just one little caveat you should be aware of, however; Nvidia's initial WHQL drivers for the GTX 680 nerfs data transfer levels to slower PCI-E 2.0 speeds, rather than the blazing fast enthusiast-level PCI-E 3.0 x16 speeds the X79 chipset is capable of.
Hopefully it's just a short-term bump in the road due to software validation issues rather than a long-term hassle. Nvidia owns up to the slowed speeds on its specification page for the graphics ...

Aqua Computer Announces AquaGraFX GTX 680 Water Block

Aqua Computer Announces AquaGraFX GTX 680 Water Block

Posted on Mar 23, 2012 by MG1

German PC liquid-cooling experts Aqua Computer launched the AquaGraFX GTX 680, the industry's first full-coverage water block for NVIDIA's newly-launched high-end graphics card. Its primary material is exposed-copper. The coolant channel not only passes through the central portion covering the GPU and memory, but also the tail portion, where heat is drawn from the VRM area of the graphics card.
At the portion that's right about the GPU, the coolant channel is densely ridged, to increase surface area of dissipation to the coolant. To top if off, Aqua Computer used a brushed metal cover. It has a modular inlet/outlet design that suits both standalone and SLI systems, including 3-way and 4-way ...

Nvidia GeForce GTX 680 official: 28nm Kepler GPU doesn't disappoint

Nvidia GeForce GTX 680 official: 28nm Kepler GPU doesn't disappoint

Posted on Mar 23, 2012 by MG1

Nvidia's long-awaited move to 28nm technology is finally upon us today with the launch of the GeForce GTX 680. Billed as the most efficient GPU ever put together, the GTX 680 has a very reasonable power envelope of just 195W, breaking with the tradition of every new high-end graphics card requiring more power than the previous generation. That power figure is important for another reason: Nvidia no longer has a static clock speed for its graphics card.

NVIDIA Introducing a New Anti-Aliasing Algorithm with Kepler?

NVIDIA Introducing a New Anti-Aliasing Algorithm with Kepler?

Posted on Mar 16, 2012 by MG3

Reliable sources indicate that NVIDIA could introduce a new anti-aliasing (AA) algorithm with its Kepler family of GPUs. There are already plenty of AA algorithms which have been introduced with recent generations of GPUs, including FXAA, which have enabled higher levels of image quality, while not being as taxing as MSAA. This leaves only one area in which a new AA algorithm can take shape: to raise the image quality bar higher, while lowering performance penalty.

Nvidia Among Linux Foundation's Newest Members

Posted on Mar 12, 2012 by MG3

Filed in: nVIDIA

The Linux Foundation earlier this week welcomed four new members. It’s not the number of new members that’s important here, though. What’s more important is the fact that one these new Linux patrons is graphics chip maker Nvidia. Hit the jump for more.
The Santa Clara, California-based company has joined the Linux Foundation as a silver member. While undoubtedly an important addition, Nvidia is not the first major chip maker on the non-profit consortium’s membership roll, which already boasts the likes of Intel (platinum member) and AMD (gold member).
