NVIDIA details top-tier GeForce GTX 680M Kepler GPU for Ultrabooks, other laptops

Posted on Jun 07, 2012 by MG1

When NVIDIA took the wraps off its family of 28nm Kepler GPUs, it promised some mobile chips designed for Ultrabooks were soon to follow. Two and a half months later, we haven't seen that many laptops running the 600M series, save for the Acer Aspire M5, which isn't even on sale yet. Now, though, we're about to see a lot more: in advance of Computex, a computer-centric trade show about to be overrun by Ultrabooks, NVIDIA is spilling details on the GeForce GTX 680M. As the top-tier offering in the mobile Kepler lineup, it packs a 720MHz engine clock, 1,344 CUDA cores and a 256-bit memory bus powering up to 4GB of GDDR5 RAM. As a refresher, all of Kepler's GPUs make use of a new GPU Boost feat...

GeForce GTX 660 Photo Surfaces

GeForce GTX 660 Photo Surfaces

Well, hey now. The folks at vr-zone got their hands on a picture of MSI's GeForce GTX 660. This fifth GK104 based part might be introduced at next week's Computex:
While the image of the board is obviously photoshopped (the lower part of the bracket is not present, the heatsink has a six-pin connector slapped on top), we checked with our sources and the product appears to be legit. The highlighted single six-pin connector on the heatsink was positioned there to highlight that the board cannot pull more than 150 Watts, which the author of the leaked image made sure off.

GeForce GTX 690 passes P20000 in 3DMark 11

The GeForce GTX 690 might be expensive, but it certainly is sexy. In Taiwan there is this pro-overclocker called TIN and he applied some tender love adn care (TLC) to the card, with the result of setting a new 3DMark 11 record - P20962 points using a single GeForce GTX 690 graphics card (well okay 2 GPUs).

More graphics card 'gossip' today. It seems that the GeForce GTX 660 is scheduled to arrive this summer. i've heard gossip about Computex already, but that seems a little too soon to be honest. SweClockers got some info claiming that the card would become available for 2500 Swedish kronors, which is around $350 (including high VAT). Earlier leaks said that it will cost between $299 and $329.

Nvidia CEO: GeForce Grid 'will do for video games what cable television did for video'

Nvidia CEO: GeForce Grid 'will do for video games what cable television did for video'

Posted on May 28, 2012 by MG3

"The skiing industry would be a lot larger if you could just go do it," explains Nvidia CEO Jen-Hsun Huang. There isn't a ski pole in sight: it's a metaphor for how he wants to expand the reach of video games to entirely new audiences. Two weeks ago, at the company's GPU Technology Conference, Huang introduced a new technology on stage: a GPU called GeForce Grid, specifically designed to stream video games to any smartphone, tablet, PC, or app-savvy TV. Today, however, at the company's annual investor meeting, Huang has revealed that his company is looking to make graphically potent games more portable and convenient for everyone, not just existing players. "The entire video game market is s...

Nvidia GeForce GTX 670 launches with high-end specs, $399 price

Nvidia GeForce GTX 670 launches with high-end specs, $399 price

Posted on May 11, 2012 by MG1

Been lusting after a GeForce GTX 680 at a more affordable price point? Nvidia has done the inevitable and trickled its Kepler GPU architecture down to a more wallet-friendly level with the introduction of the $399 GeForce GTX 670. The new card is based on the same DNA, in Nvidia's words, as the GTX 680, but nixes 192 CUDA cores and about a tenth off the base and boost operating speeds to arrive at 1,344 cores and 915MHz / 980MHz clocks. It retains the same generous 2GB video buffer, made up of 256-bit GDDR5 RAM, and in a standard configuration will ship with two 6-pin auxiliary power connectors. Nvidia rates the GTX 670's TDP at 170W, however if you run it in a completely stock config, the c...

NVIDIA FXAA Technology – shader-based anti-aliasing technology available from the NVIDIA Control Panel that enables ultra-fast anti-aliasing in hundreds of PC games. FXAA delivers similar quality to 4x multi-sample antialiasing (MSAA) but is up to 60% faster, enabling substantially higher performance in games. FXAA is supported on all GeForce 8-series and later GPUs. Note: This feature is disabled for games that already have built-in support for FXAA.
NVIDIA Adaptive Vertical Sync – dynamically enables vertical sync based on your current frame rates for the smoothest gaming experience. Adaptive VSync is supported on all GeForce 8-series and later GPUs.

Asus Introduces Factory Overclocked GeForce GTX 680 DirectCU II TOP

Asus Introduces Factory Overclocked GeForce GTX 680 DirectCU II TOP

Posted on Apr 23, 2012 by MG3

It's still a challenge finding one of Nvidia's Kepler infused GeForce GTX 680 graphics cards in stock and ready to ship, but one thing the new GPU series doesn't lack is third-party variation. Nvidia's GPU partners are putting their own stamp on the GTX 680 with custom coolers and, in some cases like the new DirectCU II TOP edition from Asus, custom designed PCBs as well.
Asus went above and beyond the reference blueprint with the GeForce GTX DirectCU II TOP, adding 10-phase DIGI+ VRM digitally regulated power delivery with 30 percent noise reduction. The card also features 'Super Alloy Power' components that Asus claims will last 2.5 times longer than reference parts.

NVIDIA teases likely GeForce GTX 690

Posted on Apr 23, 2012 by MG3

NVIDIA used its Facebook page late this week to offer a teaser for what's likely its next-generation, dual-chip graphics hardware. Although the text only shows that "it's coming," traces of a thick card with two sets of heatsinks point to it being a higher-end board rather than a mid-range model. With the GTX 680 already out, the component is likely to ba called the GTX 690.

WHQL-Certified GTX 680 Drivers Limit Sandy Bridge-E To PCI-E 2.0 Speeds

WHQL-Certified GTX 680 Drivers Limit Sandy Bridge-E To PCI-E 2.0 Speeds

Posted on Mar 26, 2012 by MG1

If you've dropped the dough on a spiffy new enthusiast-level Sandy Bridge-E processor, you may decide to drop a corresponding level of dough on a spiffy new enthusiast-level Nvidia HTX 680 graphics card. (If so, we salute your Maximum-ness.) There's just one little caveat you should be aware of, however; Nvidia's initial WHQL drivers for the GTX 680 nerfs data transfer levels to slower PCI-E 2.0 speeds, rather than the blazing fast enthusiast-level PCI-E 3.0 x16 speeds the X79 chipset is capable of.
Hopefully it's just a short-term bump in the road due to software validation issues rather than a long-term hassle. Nvidia owns up to the slowed speeds on its specification page for the graphics ...

Aqua Computer Announces AquaGraFX GTX 680 Water Block

Aqua Computer Announces AquaGraFX GTX 680 Water Block

Posted on Mar 23, 2012 by MG1

German PC liquid-cooling experts Aqua Computer launched the AquaGraFX GTX 680, the industry's first full-coverage water block for NVIDIA's newly-launched high-end graphics card. Its primary material is exposed-copper. The coolant channel not only passes through the central portion covering the GPU and memory, but also the tail portion, where heat is drawn from the VRM area of the graphics card.
At the portion that's right about the GPU, the coolant channel is densely ridged, to increase surface area of dissipation to the coolant. To top if off, Aqua Computer used a brushed metal cover. It has a modular inlet/outlet design that suits both standalone and SLI systems, including 3-way and 4-way ...
