Lenovo will be 'first to market' with a Windows 8 tablet, says source

Posted on Mar 16, 2012 by MG3

Michael Dell said that he would offer an enterprise tablet "on the exact day" that Windows 8 ships to customers, but his company may have some competition right out of the gate: We've learned that Lenovo is internally planning to be the very first manufacturer to release a Windows 8 tablet, and that the company believes that October is when the operating system will ship. Our source wouldn't provide any details on the slate, save that it will use an Intel chip, but we already saw one possible machine at CES: the 13.3-inch Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga, pictured above, with an attached keyboard on a 360-degree hinge that lets you flip the machine into a laptop configuration.

Acer sues former CEO Gianfranco Lanci for joining Lenovo

Acer sues former CEO Gianfranco Lanci for joining Lenovo

Posted on Feb 09, 2012 by MG3

Acer has sued former CEO and President Gianfranco Lanci for allegedly breaching a contract signed during his departure last year. Filed in Lanci's native Italy, the suit highlights a non-compete clause that barred Lanci from joining rival firms for 12 months -- a measure commonly taken when high-profile employees resign or otherwise exit a company.
Lanci purportedly violated that pact by joining Lenovo as a consultant last September, only six or seven months after striking the agreement (the contract was reportedly signed in February but Lanci left in March). Lanci's relationship with Lenovo expanded in January when the Chinese PC maker named him as the head of its new Europe, Middle East an...

Despite as many as one-and-a-half dozen new Lenovo laptops being announced at the annual extravaganza, the company still managed to save one model for later. The IdeaPad Y470p may not have made it to CES, but it’s now up for preorder on Lenovo’s website. Unlike the GeForce GT 520M-toting Y470, the Y470p packs the much more capable Radeon HD 7690M GPU.

Lenovo ThinkPad X130e now available, estimated ship date of February 9th

Posted on Jan 27, 2012 by MG1

The student-friendly ThinkPad X130e has completed the tech cycle: it has been leaked, announced, and delayed, and now it's available to order on Lenovo's website. In case you've forgotten, the system has an 11.6-inch, 1366x768 display and it comes in two base configs: one with AMD's E-300 APU and another with Intel's Core i3-2367M. Both systems have an estimated ship date of February 9th, and they'll cost you $429 and $549, respectively.
What makes the X130e different than other ThinkPads? Well, Lenovo says it's strengthened the system all around to make sure it will stand up to the rigors of being tossed around in a knapsack: there's a rubber strip around the entire system, a beefed-up hing...

Acer, Asus and Lenovo will reportedly begin selling ultrabooks equipped with Intel’s fast and versatile Thunderbolt I/O port, which combines DisplayPort and PCI Express, during the second quarter of 2012. DigiTimes said mostly high-end computers will adopt Thunderbolt this year since it now costs more than $20 to add Thunderbolt connectivity to a computer. Apple was one of the first companies to adopt Thunderbolt and it currently equips a number of its computers and displays with the technology. A recent patent filing also suggested Apple may begin using Thunderbolt in iOS devices, too.

The Lenovo K91 is a holy matrimony between Android and a TV set

The Lenovo K91 is a holy matrimony between Android and a TV set

While some are working on delivering live TV to Android devices, Lenovo has done the exact opposite, namely bringing the Android platform to a TV set. And what a TV set the Lenovo K91 is – a 55 incher boasting a full HD IPS-LCD panel with LED backlight and 240Hz refresh rate. Delivering the processing power is a dual-core Qualcomm APQ8060 chipset clocked at 1.5GHz, which is actually the very same chip that runs on some Samsung Galaxy S II versions. You also get 8 gigs of on-board storage that can be expanded via an SD card, Wi-Fi connectivity, and a 5-megapixel camera. What comes pre-installed is Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich with Lenovo's very own Sandwich UI that combines traditional TV f...

Lenovo's IdeaPad Yoga convertible tablet runs Windows 8, is set to arrive later this year for 'around $1,000'

Posted on Jan 11, 2012 by MG1

If CES is the place where companies can demo products they don't intend to sell for another six months, what better place for PC makers to tease their first Windows 8 tablets? Though the OS isn't expected to reach its final stage until later this year, Lenovo is already showing off the IdeaPad Yoga, a convertible tablet with a screen that flips over, like a cover on a spiral-bound book. If you like, you can bend it partway so that the keyboard functions as a stand when you're in the mood to watch a movie.
Based on our conversations with Lenovo reps, it's clear the company sees this as a laptop first, and tablet second. The proof is in the specs, really. It weighs "less than 1.5kg," or 3.3 po...

Lenovo announces IdeaCentre A720 all-in-one with a multitouch display that lies nearly flat

Posted on Jan 11, 2012 by MG1

Now that Lenovo's let it all out, it's easy to understand how it approached CES, and the days leading up to it. Thursday was ThinkPad day, yesterday was for all manner of consumer swag and today, Monday, is all about eye-catching designs. In addition to unveiling the Yoga convertible tablet, the company introduced the IdeaCentre A720, what it says is the world's thinnest 27-inch all-in-one. Similar to the HP TouchSmart 610, which debuted around this time last year, it has a display that can be tilted between 5 and 90 degrees, the idea being that that 10-point multitouch panel will be easier to use if it's lying at a near-flat angle. Spec-wise, it'll be offered with various Intel Core i proce...
