Toshiba announces Camileo Clip, X200 and X400 camcorders

Toshiba announces Camileo Clip, X200 and X400 camcorders

Posted on Sep 02, 2011 by MG1

Not surprisingly, Toshiba is covering all the bases at IFA today, with it now also announcing its latest batch of camcorders. That includes the Camileo Clip pictured above (which actually has a clip 'round back for hands-free shooting), as well as the more traditional Camileo X200 and X400, all three of which record 1080p video and rely exclusively on SD cards for storage. The X200 and X400 also, of course, steps things up quite a bit in terms of features, the standout ones being a 12x optical zoom on the X200 and a 23x zoom on the X400. Still no word on prices for any of them, but Toshiba says they'll be available sometime in the fourth quarter of this year (in Europe, at least). Hit the PR...

Toshiba unveils new AT200: it makes the iPad and Galaxy Tab look obese

Toshiba unveils new AT200: it makes the iPad and Galaxy Tab look obese

Posted on Sep 02, 2011 by MG1

To no one’s surprise, Toshiba just unveiled its latest Android tablet offering, the Honeycomb 3.2, 10.1-inch AT200. When we describe this tab as ultra slim — we mean it. The new Toshiba tablet measures in at a remarkable 7.7 mm thick, the Toshiba AT200 comes in as one of the thinnest Honeycomb slates yet, making even the once slim Galaxy Tab 10.1 look like a fatty. Under the hood is a 1.2GHz TI OMAP 4430 CPU, 5MP and 2MP cameras, and up to 64GB of on-board storage. The new slate also sports a microUSB, microHDMI, and microSD support.

Full HD 3D Glasses Initiative adds TCL, Sharp, Philips and Toshiba

Posted on Sep 02, 2011 by MG1

Early August Panasonic Corporation, Samsung Electronics, Sony Corporation and X6D Limited (XPAND 3D) announced the Full HD 3D Glasses Initiative. Now the group announces that TCL, Sharp, Philips and Toshiba join as well. LG is still absent because of their focus on passive 3D glasses.
The companies intend to work together on the development and licensing of radio frequency (RF) system 3D active glasses technology, including RF system protocols between consumer 3D active glasses and 3D displays such as televisions, personal computers, projectors and 3D theaters with XPAND active shutter glasses. The standardization will also include multiple types of infrared (IR) system protocols between 3D ...

Toshiba Thrive to land in UK September 1st, now known as the AT100

Posted on Sep 01, 2011 by MG1

If you're a loyal citizen of the UK anxiously awaiting a Toshiba Thrive, your sleepless nights are nearly over. The less-than-slender tablet, rebranded as the AT100, will hit the United Kingdom on September 1st. Like its American cousin, it will ship with Android 3.1 and a 1GHz Nvidia Tegra 2 processor -- not to mention all those ports: full-size HDMI and USB, along with an SD slot. Of course, with those rumors of a thinner Toshiba tablet swirling around, you may want to hold off on buying. There's no official word on pricing yet, though you won't have to wait long to find out.

Toshiba ultraslim Thrive tablet successor leaks - SlashGear

Posted on Aug 29, 2011 by MG15

Details of Toshiba’s successor to the Thrive Android tablet have leaked, with the company apparently readying a far slimmer, sleeker Honeycomb slate that might be released at IFA 2011 later this week. The unnamed Toshiba tablet is, according to Notebook Italia, predominantly metal and glass, unlike the rubberized Thrive, with a 10.1-inch display and microHDMI connectivity.

Toshiba Announces First Glasses-Free 3D Laptop

Toshiba Announces First Glasses-Free 3D Laptop

Posted on Aug 11, 2011 by MG3

In the rush to move everything into the third dimension, Toshiba has announced their latest glasses-free 3D notebook, the Qosmio F755 3D. The laptop is even capable of displaying 2D and 3D content at the same time. So how does it all work?

Toshiba achieves the 3D glasses-free viewing by using the latest in auto-stereoscopic display technology. The 15.6" LCD is a full HD TruBrite panel with Active Lens technology, with double parallax technology that allows it to project two sets of images at the same time, splitting them between the left and right eyes to create the 3D effect. Toshiba’s Face Tracking technology then uses the laptop’s webcam to optimize the projection of the image by reactin...

Toshiba's Qosmio F755: Not the First Glasses-Free 3D Laptop

Toshiba's Qosmio F755: Not the First Glasses-Free 3D Laptop

Posted on Aug 11, 2011 by MG3

Tricky, tricky, Toshiba. There's a story going around today that Toshiba's new Qosmio F755 laptop is the world's first laptop with a glasses-free 3D screen, but that's just not true.
Back in 2003, we reviewed the Sharp Actius RD3D, the real first U.S. laptop to include a parallax barrier 3D screen. At the time, reviewer Bill Howard said "Our experience viewing still images was outstanding. You do notice an apparent loss of resolution going into 3-D mode (each eye sees 512-by-768 worth of pixels), but the foreground-to-background separation is outstanding. It was even better playing a Spiderman demo movie."

Toshiba outs software update for the Thrive that fixes its deep sleep issue

Toshiba outs software update for the Thrive that fixes its deep sleep issue

Posted on Aug 04, 2011 by MG1

Honeycomb’s very own sleeping beauty, the Toshiba Thrive, has been plagued by a mystical bug that somehow caused some units to not wake up once it entered sleep mode. Last week though, Toshiba came out to inform us all that a software update was in the works to address the problem, but more importantly, it was promised to become available this week.
Well, kudos to Toshiba for obviously following through because starting today, a new software update for the Toshiba Thrive is being pushed out as we speak. Rather than following the usual update process we tend to see with Android, owners need to run Toshiba’s very own “Service Station” app in order to download it. In addition, the update enhanc...

Toshiba Thrive only $379 today for eBay's Daily Deal

Toshiba Thrive only $379 today for eBay's Daily Deal

Posted on Aug 02, 2011 by MG1

Toshiba’s Android Honeycomb tablet, the Thrive, has just recently got a price cut for eBay’s Daily Deal. You can now grab the 8GB Honeycomb tablet for a mere $379 instead of the standard $429. Even better, shipping is free, too. With very little time left, if you want to jump onto this deal, you best do it quickly.
The Thrive may not be as slim or sleek as other Android Honeycomb tablets available today (read: Galaxy Tab 10.1) but it certainly competes in the price arena, even without this discount. Shipping with more ports than any other tablet we’ve seen to date, the Thrive is a powerful tablet that makes up for its chunkiness with its full HDMI and USB port, SD Card slot. While you may no...

Toshiba plans to push out an update next week that fixes the Thrive's sleep mode issue

Toshiba plans to push out an update next week that fixes the Thrive's sleep mode issue

Posted on Aug 01, 2011 by MG1

Just like how some people get all groggy and irritated from being awaken from a deep sleep, even some of our gadgets fall victim to this all too common occurrence, but it’s especially noticeable with the Toshiba Thrive. In fact, it was only last week when we reported on how some new Thrive owners were experiencing some uncharacteristic power management problems, which resulted in the Honeycomb tablet not properly waking up from sleep mode.
Considering that it’s been given the tagline of being “the first tablet to get it right,” some affected owners will undoubtedly question that, but thankfully, Toshiba is quick to address the problem. Fortunately, the team over at Toshiba are already hard a...

Sony, Sharp and Fujitsu earnings all bring bad news, only Toshiba says something nice

Sony, Sharp and Fujitsu earnings all bring bad news, only Toshiba says something nice

Posted on Jul 29, 2011 by MG1

Plenty of Japanese earnings news today and, as with Nintendo, most of it's pretty dire. Sony's hit from the earthquake and PSN outtage has inevitably contaminated this quarter, but it's suffered from slow Bravia TV, PC and camcorder sales too. Together, these factors contributed a hefty ¥15.5 billion ($200 million) loss in the three months to the end of June, compared to a ¥25.7 billion profit for the same quarter last year.
Meanwhile, Fujitsu also lost ¥20.4 billion, which it largely attributed to a 6.7 percent decline in Japanese sales following the disaster. However, sales in other countries also fell 5.3 percent, reflecting a stronger yen and general lack of consumer demand.
Despite ever...

Toshiba faces up to second buggy tablet launch
Toshiba has acknowledged a bug plaguing its just launched Thrive 7-inch Android 3.0 (Honeycomb) tablet. As Electronista reported on Sunday, the company’s user forums have been hit by a raft of user complaints about the issue. Toshiba says that it is working on a fix for the bug, which is causing its Thrive tablets not to wake up from sleep mode.
"We're aware of the issue and are working on a fix," a Toshiba spokesman said in an e-mail to PC World. While the spokesman was unable to provide an estimated timeframe for when the fix might arrive, he confirmed that it would be delivered via Toshiba’s Service Station pre-loaded application.

Toshiba Glasses-Free 3D Panels for Tablets Mentioned

The fine folks at Toshiba have announced their intent to create some fantastic 15.6-inch lenticular lens-based panels for notebooks while tablets also sit very much in the mix (though perhaps in the hands of the competitors, according to industry sources.) These panels will be developed by Taiwan-based AU Optronics (AUO) for some brand new naked-eye 2D/3D switchable notebook models that’ll be launched in August for right around $2,100USD. Why, 3D notebooks, that’s crazy talk!

Toshiba unveils new CMOS sensor, flaunts smaller pixels

Toshiba unveils new CMOS sensor, flaunts smaller pixels

Posted on Jul 11, 2011 by MG1

Filed in: CamerasToshiba

Hoping your next smartphone will have more megapixels while being even thinner than the last? Us too, but we're not known to skimp on image quality -- an unfortunate conundrum of squishing more pixels into a tighter space. Enter Toshiba's new CMOS sensor, advancing on both fronts, with 8 megapixels and what the firm reckons is the smallest pixel size in the industry at 1.12 micrometers. Also present is backside illumination, helping maximize photon accrual -- which should make a certain Steve oh-so proud. Currently being sampled, the teensy gizmo plans to go into mass production later this year. Interested? Peep the full release after the break.

Toshiba Thrive tablet lands at Best Buy July 10

Posted on Jul 11, 2011 by MG1

The much-anticipated Toshiba Thrive 3.1 Android tablet will be available to purchase from Best Buy July 10.
The news comes from Best Buy, as I’m still waiting on official word from Toshiba but it looks like you’ll be able to head to the electronics store on Sunday to plunk down some cash for the tablet. You actually won’t have to bring too much cash with you, as the Toshiba Thrive Android 3.1 tablet will cost $479.99 with 16 GB and the 32 GB model will cost $579.99. An 8 GB model for $429 is also expected to be available but it’s unclear if this will be at all stores or limited to Best Buy’s website.
