A Shanghai court has rejected a request from a Chinese company to stop the sale of Apple's iPad in China, the latest development in an ongoing legal dispute over who owns the rights to the iPad name. According to the Wall Street Journal, the Pudong District People's Court said in a statement that it has rejected Proview's request for a temporary injunction that would have suspended iPad sales in Shanghai. It also approved Apple's request to halt proceedings until another court in the southern province of Guangdong decides on a related appeal case.

Asus teases Retina Display Tablet for MWC 2012?

Posted on Feb 24, 2012 by MG15

The iPad 3 is going to double the resolution with its new Retina Display. I already pointed out in this report that I believe that the Android camp will try to beat Apple to the punch with a Retina display tablet. It could well be that Asus will show a tablet with retina display resolution at the MWC 2012. Asus released another MWC 2012 teaser video. The new one is titled: "Twice the Detail, Twice the Fun." The teaser is clearly about display resolution. The form factor of the box filled with balls resembles a tablet. Watch the Asus teaser video below. Earlier today we reported about another Asus MWC 2012 teaser video that is about a new transformer tablet with smartphone integration.

Wow, it has been a while since we last had a rumor about a Google branded tablet. Last time, which was about six weeks ago, it was claimed that a 7-inch slate priced at $199 was being readied for a late Q2 release. But although that information seemed a bit shaky for us at the time, the odds of it turning out to be accurate are raising as we now have another source providing similar claims.
According to Richard Slim, who is an analyst with DisplaySearch, Google is indeed working on a tablet with a 7-inch display and 1280 by 800 pixels of resolution. Moreover, manufacturing of the first batch of tablets – between 1.5 and 2 million units, is set to begin in April. Interestingly, he also claims...

ASUS has released the bootloader unlock tool for the Eee Pad Transformer Prime this morning, and developers have wasted no time in opening up the Tegra 3 tablet to Ubuntu. Prime owner littlesteve had a Ubuntu build prepped and waiting for just this day, though there are still some hardware issues to iron out: no touchscreen support, for instance, so that a Bluetooth mouse is necessary for navigation.

It's Official: Barnes & Noble Rolls Out 8GB Nook Tablet for $199

Posted on Feb 22, 2012 by MG3

Barnes & Noble on Tuesday officially introduced a previously rumored 8GB version of its low price Nook Tablet. By cutting internal storage in half from 16GB and reducing the amount of RAM to 512MB, B&N was able to shave $50 off the retail cost and sell the new version for $199, the same exact price as Amazon's competing Kindle Fire tablet, which happens to be the second most popular slate on the planet behind Apple's iPad.

"For any customer who likes to read digitally, watch movies or TV shows, browse the web, or help their kids read and learn through interactive books and apps, our new $199 Nook Tablet with 8GB is the best product value on the market," said William Lynch, Chief Executive O...

Amazon building 10-inch Kindle Fire

Amazon building 10-inch Kindle Fire

Posted on Feb 22, 2012 by MG1

If you passed on the Kindle Fire because you felt its 7-inch display was too small, then you may be in luck with this latest rumor. According to China Times, Amazon is said to be working on a 10-inch version of the hottest selling Android tablet on the market, which is slated to release sometime in the second quarter.
If true, this suggest that the Kindle maker would be competing directly with the iPad when it comes to size and form factor. Like all rumors this needs to be taken with a grain of salt until more concrete evidence comes to light. When it comes to specs, no one knows what this slate will carry; all that’s being said is Foxconn will supposedly manufacture this larger tablet which...

Office for iPad repoortedly leaked, near ready

Posted on Feb 21, 2012 by MG1

Microsoft's long-rumored Office for iPad got a much more tangible piece of evidence after a leak Tuesday purported to show the suite itself. As shown by The Daily, Office would be an all-encompassing single app with Excel, PowerPoint, and Word. The interface would recall OneNote but bring in more of the Metro interface language from Windows Phone and Windows 8.
It's not apparent if other apps would fill out Office, although Microsoft doesn't have as much of a need given the built-in e-mail app's Exchange sync support.

A lawyer representing Proview International on Monday announced that the Intermediate People’s Court in Huizhou, a city in southern China, ruled on Friday that distributors should stop selling iPads in China, Associated Press reports. Proview refuses to honor their agreement with Apple in China and a Hong Kong court has sided with Apple in this matter,” Apple spokeswoman Carolyn Wu said earlier in response to the lawsuits. Two new iPad 3 rumors sprang up over the weekend, rumors which we wish would stop already since we’ll know everything there is to know about the iPad 3 in less than a month. Anyway, the first rumor is from a Chinese website called WeiPhone, which managed to get a photo of what’s supposedly going to be the iPad 3 motherboard. On said motherboard is a massive chip labeled A5X, as in the successor to the A5 that’s currently inside the iPad 2 and iPhone 4S. The folks at MacRumors took a close look at the markings on the chip and discovered that it was manufactured in late November. They also found the technical model number of this chip in question is S5L8945X. To put that into some perspective,...

RIM has recently extended a promotion that gave away a free BlackBerry PlayBook to anyone who submitted a "viable" app to BlackBerry App World. The promotion was to expire on Monday but RIM's Head of Developer Relations Alec Saunders has extended the deadline for the free PlayBook to March as developers have been signing up with the Canadian based manufacturer.
Saunders sent out a tweet on Tuesday proudly announcing that RIM had signed up 6600 developers in the previous 11 days. Developers have told Berry Review that it has been taking longer than usual to register as a developer, but RIM is supposed to have everything working fine now. And if you are a RIM investor worrying about the compan...
