Sanjay Jha, Motorola's CEO, has commented that he wishes Motorola could get a similar deal to Nokia's with Microsoft, which sounds funny as the general opinion is that since they adopted Android, Motorola's got their shit together in recent years.

Verizon Wireless and Motorola have released the so much needed Gingerbread update for the Droid X2. All AT&T Android Phones Released In 2011 Will Get Gingerbread

All AT&T Android Phones Released In 2011 Will Get Gingerbread

Posted on Jul 26, 2011 by MG1

The HTC Status might be a sort-of-weird, kind-of-gimmicky (with its dedicated Facebook button and all) little piece of kit, but it’s got at least one thing going for it: it’s the only phone on AT&T running on the latest (phone-friendly) version of Android: v2.3, or “Gingerbread”. Not for long, though.
AT&T has just confirmed that all of the Android phones they released in 2011 will be getting the Gingerbread upgrade treatment.
The phones AT&T confirmed:
HTC Inspire 4G
LG Phoenix
Motorola Atrix 4G
Pantech Crossover
Samsung Captivate
Samsung Infuse 4G
That sure looks like all of AT&T’s 2011 Android line up so far, to me. Anyone spot anything that’s missing?
For those of you whose pre-2011 AT&T...

Motorola posts Atrix 4G's Android 2.3 upgrade, adds 1080p

Posted on Jul 25, 2011 by MG1

Motorola gave Atrix 4G owners a treat at the end of the week by posting its Android 2.3 update. The update brings both the performance, polish, and interface updates of 2.3 itself as well as updates to Motorola's custom tweaks, including ones that haven't shown on other Motorola Android 2.3 revisions. Among the surprises is an upgrade to 1080p movie playback that helps it compete even with newer phones.
MotoBlur has been given both core and secondary updates. The UI layer now has an iPhone-style app dock, notifications can be cleared one at a time, and the app tray is now sortable. Media gets a lift through a gallery app that now aggregates more online and offline sources, and the music play...

Android 3.2 Hits Motorola Xoom, SDK Released

Android 3.2 Hits Motorola Xoom, SDK Released

Posted on Jul 20, 2011 by MG1

Android 3.2 Honeycomb has just been released and it includes a number of bug fixes and other upgrades to the tablet version of Google’s mobile software platform. Moreover, the release shows better support for multiple screen resolutions, which means manufacturers can just go nuts with their screen sizes, within reason. What we have to look forward to are 7-inch Android tablets, which are arguably more portable than their 10-inch counterparts.

Motorola began issuing the Android 3.2 (Honeycomb) update to Wi-Fi XOOM owners on Tuesday. The patch reportedly adds support for the tablet’s SD card slot and also features a new screen zooming feature that will allow users to resize mobile applications so that they fit the screen appropriately. Android 3.2 will also add support for smaller tablets with 7-inch screens, many of which currently run older versions of Android such as Gingerbread. Google also announced that it is releasing parts of the Android 3.2 source code to the Android Open Source Project.

Motorola DEFY on T-Mobile UK finally getting Android 2.2 Froyo

Motorola DEFY on T-Mobile UK finally getting Android 2.2 Froyo

Posted on Jun 30, 2011 by MG1

Most owners of the Motorola DEFY in the UK have probably already received the update to Android 2.2 Froyo that was released a few weeks back, but those who happen to have bought their DEFY through T-Mobile have been left in the lurch. They shouldn't be upset for too much longer, though, as T-Mobile has announced that users can expect the update to roll out at the beginning of July. Android 2.2 Froyo brings a number of improvements, including faster performance and the ability to move apps to the SD card. T-Mobile users will probably be happy to get the latest and greatest from April 2010, but I wouldn't hold my breath for a 2.3 Gingerbread update for the DEFY.

Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread, Updated Motoblur UI Headed To Motorola Atrix 4G Next Month

Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread, Updated Motoblur UI Headed To Motorola Atrix 4G Next Month

Posted on Jun 24, 2011 by MG1

For those of you who own the Motorola Atrix 4G, you know that it does all kinds of cool things. For one, it turns into a little laptop when you clip it into its corresponding laptop dock. It’s also the first dual-core smartphone to launch in the U.S., so it was the trend-setter of snappiness, if you will. One thing the Atrix 4G doesn’t do, however, is run Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread, at least not until next month. That’s right Atrix owners, you’re in for a real Gingerbread treat.
Motorola will release the latest version of the Motoblur UI alongside the OTA update, which should fix some of the kinks in the interface. Sometimes heavy skins like the Motoblur UI ruin the fun of an OS update becaus...

Hulu Plus for Android is available now... for six devices

Hulu Plus for Android is available now... for six devices

Posted on Jun 23, 2011 by MG3

The good news is that Hulu Plus for Android is on the market, but the bad news is that you may not be able to install it yet. The official Hulu Blog has just been updated with news that six phones -- Nexus One, Nexus S, HTC Inspire 4G, Motorola Droid II, Motorola Droid X, and the Motorola Atrix -- are on the compatible list with "additional device announcements" due later in the year. While there's some crossover with the list of Netflix-compatible devices, it's hardly complete and many flagship phones are still missing. Here's hoping the tweakers can work their magic on that apk and get it running for the rest of us, whether we're shelling out $7.99 a month or just want to leech some Chappe...

It looks like Motorola is unlocking the Atrix bootloader with the Gingerbread update

It looks like Motorola is unlocking the Atrix bootloader with the Gingerbread update

Posted on Jun 23, 2011 by MG1

Motorola had said that they would change their policy on locking bootloaders by Q3 of this year, but the changes look like they're starting early. BriefMobile has confirmed through a leaked Gingerbread update for the Motorola Atrix 4G that the update will allow easy unlocking of the bootloader.
The Gingerbread update for the Atrix is scheduled to be released over-the-air in July, and will update the phone to Android 2.3.3, which unfortunately means that the phone still won't be able to use the new video chat in GTalk which requires 2.3.4. But, the update will allow the use of the traditional fastboot oem unlock command to unlock the bootloader. And, an unlocked bootloader means full support...

Motorola puts brakes on DROID 2 Global Gingerbread update

Posted on Jun 20, 2011 by MG3

Despite Verizon Wireless' announcement that the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for the Motorola DROID 2 Global is rolling out to users now, Motorola has said that the update is not ready and is not available. Speaking on its support forums, a Motorola representative said that the update is not rolling out anytime soon and that there is no date given as to when it will be available for users. Sad news for owners of the DROID 2 Global who had gotten their hopes up, though this isn't the first time an update has seen rocky starts.
