If seeing is believing, then it looks like one lucky eBay user has come across something amazing. After buying a Nexus S on eBay, the device arrived looking a little funny. According to the About Phone screen, this device is running an early dev build of Android’s next update, called Ice Cream Sandwich. The user was good enough to give a haphazard walkthrough on video.

Android Ice Cream Sandwich nears release: phones will be able to install Honeycomb apps

Posted on Sep 21, 2011 by MG1

Android Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) is the upcoming major redefinition of Google’s mobile platform and while we don’t know what it will look like, we already know that ICS will run on all kinds of screen sizes - from small to large and covering everything in between. Thanks to a post on Android Developers, we also have a pretty good idea of how apps will behave in ICS with the biggest change coming to Honeycomb apps which devs are adviced to make compatible with smaller screen sizes in a single APK.
Basically, this puts an end to the confusion whether an app would or wouldn’t work on a handset. Since ICS is compatible with both phones and tablets, a developer having a Honeycomb-only app would h...

Google prepping devs for impending Ice Cream Sandwich update

Posted on Sep 20, 2011 by MG1

With the Ice Cream Sandwich likely just weeks away, Google is getting Android developers ready for the impending update with some tips on how to optimize applications for phones and tablets alike for the next version of the mobile operating system.
Google introduced the Fragment API in Honeycomb and we’ve been expecting them to be implemented into handsets at some point in the future. The latest post on the Android Developers blog shows how a developer can optimize a Honeycomb application to run on a phone and how fragments are treated differently between the two. The post also shows how one can keep their application for tablets only.
While Honeycomb is strictly for tablets only, Ice Cream ...

What looks to be Samsung's roadmap for the rest of 2011 has made its way on to the internet, including details of the GT-I9220, Samsung's first Ice Cream Sandwich handset.
Alongside the much-anticipated Android upgrade, it comes rocking a massive 4.65-inch Super AMOLED screen with 1280x720 pixel resolution.
Aside from the fact that it sports a 5MP camera, other details on this telecommunications behemoth are scarce, but we suspect it may well turn out to be the next flagship Android handset – Google Nexus Prime, anyone?

T-Mobile begins rollout of G-Slate Android 3.1 Honeycomb update

T-Mobile begins rollout of G-Slate Android 3.1 Honeycomb update

Posted on Aug 12, 2011 by MG3

The T-Mobile G-Slate is catching up with the Joneses, that is if the Joneses are the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 or Motorola XOOM, as it is now being updated to Android 3.1 Honeycomb. The update adds Google Videos support, resizable widgets, USB accessory support, and an expanded recent apps list. T-Mobile is rolling out the update in a staggered fashion, and users should get a notification when it is ready to be downloaded and installed. T-Mobile makes a point to say that it cannot expedite the rollout of the update, so if you don't get it right away, you will just have to be patient and wait it out.

Posted on Jul 07, 2011 by MG1

The Acer Iconia Tab A500 has started receiving its portion of the Android 3.1 Honeycomb OTA update July 5th, judging from an Acer Germany Facebook page posting. We heard about this update back in May, although the promise was for the first weeks of June; still, beginning of July is not too shabby either.
The Acer Iconia Tab A500 is a 10" Honeycomb slate with nice aluminum back cover and all the bells and whistles one would expect from a self-respecting Android tablet.
At last check it also comes cheaper than most Android tablet offerings, selling for around $450 at places like Best Buy or Amazon, so whoever is the lucky owner of the Iconia Tab A500, the thought that the Android 3.1 Honeycom...

This means that Android 3.1 ROMS like HoneyVillian and Minimalist 3.1 are no longer required for Iconia Tab A500 owners.
The update brings resizable home screen widgets, support for a variety of new input sources and motion events, the Real-time Transport Protocol (RTP) API for audio, and other improvements that Motorola Xoom and Asus Eee Pad T...
