Google will jump into the tablet market this year with its own 7-inch device, according to a DisplaySearch analyst.
The tablet market has experienced rapid growth over the past couple of years thanks to devices such as the iPad 2, Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and Kindle Fire and it looks as though Google wants in on that cake, with its Ice Cream Sandwich operating system providing it with a good starting point.
Speaking to Cnet, analyst Richard Shim suggested that a self-branded, 7-inch (1280x800) Google tablet running Ice Cream Sandwich would start production in April.

Samsung’s GT-N8000 Mobile Tablet, believed to be a successor or companion device to the Galaxy Note, has resurfaced, with the device passing through the Bluetooth certification this week. Details on the N8000 are still largely unknown, with the device – listed only as a “Samsung Mobile Tablet” – initially spotted having its WiFi certified back in January.

Samsung announces Galaxy Tab 2 (10.1)

We already saw Samsung's Galaxy Tab 2 (7.0) just over a week ago, and now the company has come clean with its 10.1-inch variant (along with a new Galaxy Beam smartphone). Aside from bumping up the screen resolution of its LCD to 1280 x 800, from 1024 x 600 on the 7.0, the 10.1 features the same 1Ghz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, Bluetooth 3.0 connectivity, front and rear cameras (VGA and 3-megapixels, respectively) and 21Mbps HSPA+ connectivity if you opt for the 3G model instead of WiFi. The 10.1-incher notably comes equipped with a 7,000 mAh battery (up from 4,000 on the 7.0), which will hopefully ensure stamina that's similar to its predecessor. Apple's iPad outsells Galaxy tablets on Samsung's home turf

It is estimated that Apple has sold more than 1 million iPads in the South Korean market, reports Korea Herald. The Cupertino-based company is outpacing Samsung by a wide margin, cornering 70% to 80% of the tablet market in South Korea according to the paper. The iPad 2 debuted in April 2011 and saw roughly 700,000 units sold by year’s end. Most South Koreans prefer to not be attached to a carrier’s data plan, as two out of three iPads sold are Wi-Fi only models. Many early adopters bought the iPad overseas before the device was formally available on the local market, so Korea Herald notes that the actual number of iPads in use could be far more than 1 million. Samsung has outed its latest tablet, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 (7.0), the Ice Cream Sandwich successor to the original Galaxy Tab model from 2010. Built around a 7-inch 1024 x 600 PLS LCD display, the new Galaxy Tab 2 has a 1GHz dual-core processor paired with 1GB of RAM, along with WiFi and a 3-megapixel rear facing camera.
There are several signs that this is a budget model, targeting the entry-level in Samsung’s expansive tablet line-up. The Düsseldorf Higher Regional Court has upheld the ban in Germany of the Samsung GALAXY Tab 10.1 but also added that the Samsung GALAXY Tab 8.9 falls within the scope of the ruling. The Korean based manufacturer has already worked around the injunction by making changes to the original model and re-introduced it as the Samsung GALAXY Tab 10.1N. Apple has tried to have that tablet banned, but to no avail. The decision made on Tuesday was based on a violation of German unfair competition law instead of the original community design that the original ruling was based on.

We didn't have much to complain about when it came to Samsung's flagship phone and tablet, so we're glad to see that both the Galaxy S II and Tab 10.1 have managed to jump through the requisite hoops for FIPS certification. The business-centric feature means that both Samsung devices have been given the thumbs up for use in governmental agencies and other similarly stickler-for-the-rule industries. While the Tab 10.1 certainly isn't the first tablet to receive the certification, it's perhaps the most pervasive.

Samsung has released white versions of several of the company’s mobile devices lately. While the back of the various devices would be white, the front bezel around the screen typically remained black — that is, until now. It would appear that Samsung has been working on a white bezel to integrate into the company’s future milky-colored devices; a white Galaxy Tab 10.1 and Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus have emerged in Vietnam and feature truly all white design. The specs of the Tab 10.1 and Tab 7.0 Plus remain unchanged, reports claim. No pricing or availability details have been announced.

Samsung plans tweaked Galaxy Tab 7.0N to skirt Apple patent complaints

Samsung is reportedly planning to launch a tweaked version of its Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus tablet in Germany. The Galaxy Tab 7.0N will likely offer many of the same features of the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus but with design changes that could help it avoid litigation from Apple. Apple and Samsung have been butting heads in courtrooms around the globe and Apple last year successfully banned Samsung’s local subsidiaries from selling the Galaxy Tab 10.1. As a result, Samsung launched the Galaxy Tab 10.1N, which has also been the subject of ongoing patent litigation. The Galaxy Tab 7.0N is expected to cost about $770 without carrier subsidies.

A couple of mysterious Samsung devices were just spotted in the Wi-Fi Alliance's database after receiving Wi-Fi certification – the Samsung GT-N8000 and GT-N8013. What we are dealing with here is not quite clear, but let us put on our deerstalker, take out our magnifying glass, and make a prediction backed up by some old-fashioned logic.
