We’ve been tinkering around with the new Chrome Beta for a couple of hours now and we’re definitely impressed to see that Google has provided a slick browser that’s also easy on the eyes. Even in beta form, we can imagine that most people who try Chrome for Android will probably stick with it. We’re glad that Google realized that functionality can look good.

A little gem known as Android 4.0.4 wriggled its way onto the interweb last week, and while it was geared specifically for Sprint's Nexus S 4G, a similar version has just cropped up for the CDMA / LTE Galaxy Nexus from Verizon. Samsung Galaxy Nexus owners, here is a bit of news that might be of interest to you. An early Android 4.0.4 ROM has showed up on the XDA Developers forum, and those of you who are a bit more tech inclined are free to give it a shot.
According to the guys who have already tried it out, the leaked update brings a bunch of improvements, among which a shorter boot time, increased in-call volume, and a boost in signal strength. Besides, the new radios that come along make switching between 3G and 4G much more seamless. Overall, everything seems noticeably faster, and a number of bugs have been squashed.
Now for the tricky part, this Android 4.0.4 update will work only on the stock Verizon version...

White HTC Sensation with Android 4.0 ICS coming March 1 (Update: No ICS)

HTC has announced that it will offer its Sensation smartphone in "ice white" come March 1. What is more interesting, however, is that this version of the Sensation (which was originally announced way back in April 2011) will come with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich already installed, making it the first HTC device with Android 4.0 on the market. The new ice white Sensation was announced in the Netherlands, but we would be surprised if HTC didn't bring it to every market that the original Sensation is available in. HTC isn't stiffing existing Sensation owners either, as it says an upgrade to Android 4.0 will be available for their handsets soon.

Fragmentation still plagues Android, as only 1% of all devices carry ICS 4.0

Well, the numbers are in for the different types of Android versions running on all devices, and the results are disappointing because it shows that fragmentation isn’t going anywhere.
First, Google released data (below) that showed 60 percent of users are running some sort of version of Gingerbread, and only 1 percent of users were operating on Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0). Google’s stats conflict with those of research firm, Localytics. Localytics has come up with data that shows a full 73 percent of Android devices (smartphone and tablets) run Gingerbread, not the 60 percent Google claims.

Android 4.0 “Ice Cream Sandwich” is now available on the first non-Nexus phone in the world, but it’s not from Samsung or HTC, as you might expect. Instead, Huawei can lay claim to the honour of being first out of the gate, while almost everyone else was stuck showing off new Android 2.3 “Gingerbread” phones at CES two weeks ago.
The rather charming Huawei Honor, with a 4-inch display, 1.4GHz processor and 8-megapixel camera is the first phone to ship with Android Ice Cream Sandwich out of the box, apart from the Google-backed Samsung Galaxy Nexus (The older Nexus S has also already received the update).

We just remembered there was one last curiosity we saw at AMD's suite at CES 2012: this AMD Fusion tablet, running Android 4.0. Before you get too excited, AMD was quick to point out that this MSI WindPad 110W didn't get Ice Cream Sandwich through any effort of its own. What you're looking at is actually the work of the Android-x86 project, which very recently released a test Android 4.0 ISO for AMD Brazos-based tablets like the one above.

Android 4.0 updates coming to Sony's tablets and Xperia phones this spring

Sony will update the company’s Tablet S, Tablet P and Xperia line of smartphones to Android 4.0 in the spring, according to The Verge. Both tablets are already running Ice Cream Sandwich and are currently being tested behind the scenes. The company did not give a specific release date, however it plans to add “some really cool unique bits” to both tablets on top of the update. Last fall, Sony confirmed that its entire 2011 Xperia portfolio would receive an Android 4.0 update at a later date. Phones set to get the Ice Cream Sandwich update include the Xperia Arc, Arc S, Play, Neo, Neo V, Mini, Mini Pro, Active and Ray, as well as Sony Ericsson’s Live Walkman.

Android 4.0.3 gets "Experiments" options in Gmail

It looks like users that have been lucky enough to get the bump to Android 4.0.3 (which, by the way, does not include the new Galaxy Nexus just yet) are also finding a couple of new options in Gmail. The new options are under the heading of "Experiments" in the settings menu.
There are only two options available, but they both sound pretty cool. They actually seem to be features that Google probably would have wanted to have ready for the launch of Ice Cream Sandwich, but somehow missed the deadline. The first option will allow Gmail to index entire messages to improve local search. The other will allow users to drag and drop contact chips between the To, CC, and BCC address fields.

HTC Flyer to get treated to ICS in Q1 2012?

HTC’s 7-inch stylus-supporting Flyer has seen its price slashed to the very affordable $299, then it was just recently updated to 3.2 Honeycomb, and now it’s confirmed to get further up in the Android hierarchy to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) in Q1 2012.
The update wasn’t officially confirmed, though - it slipped in a customer service rep mention in France, so we’d take it with a grain of salt.

Android 4.0 for Tablets shouldn’t be judged until it’s released

Last week it was announced that the Transformer Prime would be the first certified tablet to run Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, then today the XOOM ICS update began rolling out, but there’s one judgement article out there produced by a high-ranking set of names which has passed judgement on it for those who would take their for granted that they know all about it from their 2 minutes of playtime. What they say, as it were, is that they know a guy with a Motorola tablet who has Ice Cream Sandwich on it and told them that it wasn’t very good. They then say they were at CES and spoke with a less than knowledgeable presenter who didn’t know ICS from Honeycomb.

Adobe promised that it will continue to issue security and compatibility updates for its mobile Flash player in Android Market, despite that it ceased working on future versions, and has been delivering on that promise ever since. It issued an Adobe Flash Player and Adobe AIR apps that are compatible with the latest Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich version about a month ago, but apparently some more work needed to be done, so there goes another one now.
