Google Voice gets tighter integration with Android 4.0 ICS

Google has released an update to the Google Voice app for Android that gives it greater integration with the native dialer in Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. The new integration lets Google Voice users access their Google Voice messages right from within the call log of the native dialer app. Users can control the playback speed of voicemails to speed up or slow down the message as they listen to it. The new feature can be activated by toggling the "Voicemail display" option in the settings section of the updated Google Voice app. The update is available for free from the Google Play Store now, though the new integration is only available to Android 4.0 devices.

British operator-branded versions of the Samsung Galaxy S II have started getting their Ice Cream Sandwich servings with Three leading the way, allowing its SGS2 users to get the latest version of Android as we speak.
Meanwhile, Vodafone is still testing the new software and has rather released what it calls the “preparatory” update, which should reportedly make your Galaxy S II ready for Android 4. Samsung Galaxy S II on Three gets Ice Cream Sandwich

Samsung Galaxy S II owners who are signed up to Three can now update their phones to Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich). The network provider has made the new operating system available via Samsung Kies.
Samsung had previously announced that the software update would start to roll out to its devices from yesterday, 19 March, and it has remained true to its word. Three is the first network to announce its availability in the UK, however.
Previously, Samsung had released a statement saying that eventual roll-out dates for ICS would be left to individual providers. "The availability of software upgrades in the UK will be dependent upon each network’s own software approvals process," it said.

Samsung releases ICS update source code for Galaxy S II

Source code is for modders what chum is to sharks, and Samsung is stirring up the waters in the Samsung Galaxy S II community with the source code for the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update. The update has been working its way out to Europe and Asia, and now Samsung has released the source code for it.
It should be noted that this is obviously the code for the base version of the Galaxy S II (model GT-I9100), so there are no guarantees that the code will be able to be turned into custom ROMs for carrier variants of the device, like the AT&T Skyrocket, etc. Still, it could go a long way in helping modders create custom ROMs. It could definitely help out Team Douche in its work on Cyanogen...

Samsung has finally announced its plans to upgrade the Galaxy S II line of smartphones to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. As expected, the announcement was made through the company's official Twitter account. The roll-out of the update will begin in South Korea and Europe before heading to other markets.

It's been reported that the long awaited Ice Cream Sandwich update for the Google Nexus S will be hitting the handset in the next few weeks.
The Nexus S was next in line to receive Ice Cream Sandwich last year, after the launch of the flagship Android 4.0 handset the Samsung Galaxy Nexus.
We reported back in December that Google had pushed back its global roll out of Ice Cream Sandwich for the Nexus S as it wanted to monitor feedback from the few Nexus S users who did receive the update.

Verizon Wireless has begun distributing an update for the Motorola DROID X2 smartphone. The update fixes a handful of bugs in the device's software and patches a security hole. Unfortunately it does not update the DROID X2 to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, and Motorola has not announced plans to do so in the future. Users should get a notification on their handsets when the update is ready to be downloaded and installed.

Broadcom readies chips optimized for Android 4.0

Broadcom announced this week a set of 3G smartphone chips that have been designed specifically to exploit Android 4.0, also known as Ice Cream Sandwich. The new silicon especially focuses on improving Android graphics performance.
The chips are aimed at the growing Android mobile market worldwide, offering handset makers a choice of pricing and performance, with one- and two-core ARM-based processors. All three are highly integrated "system-on-a-chip" or SOCs.

Do you own a Droid Incredible 2 by HTC? If so, you can expect a future update to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS). Reports from around the web suggest some HTC Sensation users in Europe have started getting their serving of Ice Cream Sandwich. While we don’t see the pattern HTC is using to rollout the new firmware, it is clear that at first only folks with unlocked devices are getting Android 4.0.3.
The Taiwanese company is strangely quiet (for such a big news), so we keep listening to other people and their reactions. As far as we’ve understood, alongside Ice Cream Sandwich, HTC is also pushing updated version (3.6) of its Sense UI.

Samsung Galaxy S2 owners will be getting their first taste of Ice Cream Sandwich on March the 15th, according to Samsung Israel. Yup, looks like that Android 4.0 update is coming right on cue.
Samsung may have been the first to get an Android 4.0 phone to market, but that was one of Google’s bleeding-edge Nexus phones. Regular Joe Galaxy owners knew they would have to wait for Sammy to tweak ICS and bolt on its TouchWiz UI ‘improvements’.
