Reports are coming in that Motorola's XOOM Android tablets are starting to receive Google's Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system update. According to Android Central, an email has been sent out to select XOOM users stating, "Thanks for your patience as we've waited for this project to begin. Because we are dealing with a Google Experience Device (GED) we have less insight to timing than we would usually have. However, I'm happy to announce that we will start the update this evening. Because it was delayed a few days, we will also have additional time to test; we will let it run through the weekend." Let us know if you have seen your ICS update.

When consumers are faced with the question of "do I get an iPhone or something else?" a greater percentage of them now associate the "something else" side of the equation as Samsung.
Changewave Research asked 4,000 consumers in North America who were planning on buying a smartphone in the next 90 days which manufacturer they would most likely choose.
Of course, Apple (aka, the iPhone) was at the top of the list. In the December study, more than half, 54%, of those surveyed said the iPhone was the next smartphone on their mind.

Fujitsu distributed a flyer at CES teasing a quad-core Tegra 3 Android phone with a 12-GPU graphics accellerator running Ice Cream Sandwich. Quad-core tablets are only just starting to show up, so having that kind of power in a phone should make for some decreased battery life because there's less room for a big power cell. Google introduces mandatory Holo theme for Android 4.0 Design defrag : Google has taken the surprising move of requiring all future Android devices, including those on Android 4.0, to feature its default theme, known as Holo.
Essentially, the company is trying to standardise design features across the OS - so the inclusion of Holo is meant to make life easier for app developers to keep their apps looking consistent.

Google in an update for developers has revealed that it's taking a hardline stance on including Android 4.0 interface elements. Although HTC, Samsung, and others can still have a default custom interface and theme, the code behind the stock theme, Holo, now has to sit on the device if a hardware maker wants to have access to Android Market. The policy will make sure that hardware makers can update faster by keeping their theme separate from the OS and provide a consistent look for apps without having to continually adapt code.
