The Galaxy Note surprised many with its 5.3-inch, 1280 x 800 Super AMOLED display at a time when some of us were still pondering whether or not 4.5-inches was overkill. Samsung's been pretty quiet about the plus-sized device since that announcement, but a Facebook event today has announced its imminent arrival. In case you forgot, the Galaxy Note comes with a 1.4GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, 16GB or 32GB storage options, an 8-megapixel rear camera, a 2-megapixel front camera, and an S Pen stylus. The device has also been rooted by XDA Developers. While Samsung hasn't announced any pricing details, two online retailers have filled in that blank for us. Clove is selling the smartphone u...

Samsung Galaxy Nexus gets rooted
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesSamsungGALAXY Nexus
Well, this didn’t take long. The Android community never seems to fail when it comes to amazing us, it turns out that one wily enthusiast has already developed a root solution for the Samsung Galaxy Nexus once it releases.
The way the “Superboot” program works is once a user installs it, a specialized boot image to the Galaxy Nexus appears, which enables the phone to automatically root at startup. This is really cool because you don’t have to worry about messing around with those annoying paritions to gain full control over your phone. Trust me, as someone who’s been rooting phones for over year, this program makes things way easier.

Samsung wants Apple's Jonathan Ive to testify in court, and the iPhone 4S source code, too
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesSamsungAppleiPhone 4s
Apple's chief product designer Jonathan Ive and others from his team have until December 1 to testify about Cupertino's claims that Samsung is infringing on its design patents with its Android phones and tablets. The deadline was November 1, but Samsung filed to extend it, since the designers would have been available after that date. From Samsung's motion:
"Mr. Satzger is a former Apple employee represented by separate counsel. He is unable to sit for deposition before November 1 because, during the month of October, his lawyer has a full deposition schedule in a separate class action matter.
Mr. Nishibori is unable to sit for deposition before November 1 because he currently is on a volun...

If you were planning on picking up the Samsung GALAXY Nexus during the holiday shopping season, you might have to wait until after Black Friday to pick up the first Android 4.0 smartphone. Multiple sources for Droid-Life have said not to expect the highly anticipated model to rollout until the week of Black Friday, the day that traditionally kicks off the holiday shopping season. However, a leaked roadmap seems to show that the Ice Cream Sandwich flavored device might not launch until after Black Friday as part of Samsung's Holiday Portfolio.
Just yesterday we passed along word from U.K. newspaper The Telegraph which was told by Samsung that the GALAXY Nexus would launch in the States one we...

Samsung requests source code in effort to ban iPhone 4S in Australia
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesSamsungAppleiPhone 4s
Samsung recently asked Apple to provide it with source code for the the firmware used in its iPhone 4S, ZDNET reported on Tuesday. The South Korea-based phone maker also asked for details on Apple’s subsidy agreements with Australian carriers Vodafone, Optus and Telstra. The moves were part of an ongoing lawsuit in which Samsung has accused Apple of infringing on three of its patents. Apple believes Samsung has no need to access the information, but Samsung’s lawyer argued that there are fewer subsidies available for Samsung’s products if subsidies are given for the iPhone 4S. Additionally, the source code may be just as important in proving that Apple is infringing on patents. Read on for m...

Samsung: Australian Tab ban should be lifted
Like UnlikeFiled in: Samsung
Samsung has appealed for the Australian ban on its Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablets to be overturned.
Citing errors of law, Samsung's legal team has insisted that the ban over alleged patent infringement is wrongful, despite a judge agreeing that Apple's intellectual property had been infringed.
The injunction was a preliminary one, but Samsung's lawyer Neil Young insisted that it was based on "irrelevant considerations".
Fight
The ban was handed down on 13 October, to the dismay of Samsung, who immediately indicated that they would fight against it.
Apple believes that Samsung's Galaxy Tab 10.1 infringes on three of its patents, and has already rejected a deal offered by Samsung over the Aus...

Samsung Italy: Galaxy S II, Galaxy Note and dual-core tablets getting Android 4.0 update
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesOperating SystemsSamsungGoogleGalaxy S IIGALAXY NoteAndroid 4.0
Samsung Italy has apparently confirmed that the company’s high-end devices (i.e. those with a dual-core processor) will all get the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update. In other words, the list of products that will be blessed with the latest version of Android includes:
Galaxy S II
Galaxy Note
Galaxy Tab 10.1
Galaxy Tab 8.9
Galaxy Tab 7.7
Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus
We assume the carrier specific versions of the Galaxy S II will also get the same treatment though not as fast as the unlocked device. Moreover, we would hope to see some of the phones with a fast single-core processor (1.4 GHz) on the list, like the Galaxy W or T-Mobile Exhibit II, but I guess Samsung is still evaluating that option....

Samsung’s white Galaxy Note revealed

Samsung kicks off its Galaxy Note European tour in London, UK, today, showing off the 5.3-inch Android smartphone-tablet-hybrid on the eve of its European release. The company has also whipped out a surprise, in the shape of a white Samsung Galaxy Note, rather than the black version that debuted at IFA 2011 last month.
Aside from the new color option, the white Galaxy Note is functionally identical to its black sibling. That means the same dual-core processor, and the same 5.3-inch Super AMOLED HD screen running at 1280 x 800 paired with a digital S Pen for handwriting, annotations and sketching.

Samsung appeals Australian Galaxy Tab 10.1 injunction in Apple case

Samsung has appealed a ruling by an Australian court that prevents it from selling the Galaxy Tab 10.1 in the country in an effort to get the tablet on store shelves in time for the holidays. Samsung attorney Neil Young accused Justice Annabelle Bennett of making “irrelevant considerations” and “making errors of law in her approach” to the injunction. The request for an appeal hearing will be granted by Justice Lindsay Foster, likely for the week of November 21st, The Wall Street Journal reported on Thursday. Samsung and Apple are currently locked in a number of legal battles around the globe. Apple has successfully blocked Samsung’s local retailers in Australia and The Netherlands from sell...

Samsung Galaxy Nexus release date confirmed for November 17th in Europe
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesSamsungGALAXY Nexus
Well, it may not be the official release date for any of the US carriers but we can now expect to see the Samsung Galaxy Nexus in Europe by November 17th. The date was announced informally at the recent Galaxy Note event from Samsung and while it’s not as soon as we’d like, a solid date is a solid date and we’re not really complaining.
Whether or not this date will be the same for any US release remains to be seen but the rumored date for Verizon’s LTE variant has been pegged (a few times) for November 10th. Either way, we’re about three weeks away before the official debut of the Galaxy Nexus in some form, and there’s still a chance that a US release could pop up even sooner.
