Sprint’s version of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus may launch on April 22nd according to a purported internal document obtained by The Verge. In terms of hardware, the handset is identical to the Verizon Wireless version, however Sprint customers will have access to Google Wallet. The internal document also points to Sprint’s first 4G LTE phone being the LG Viper, which will be available just ahead of the Galaxy Nexus on April 15th. The handset features a 4-inch WVGA display with a 1.2GHz dual-core processor and a 5-megapixel rear camera. The Viper comes equipped with an NFC chip and will also have Google Wallet access as well. Samsung today announced that it has officially launched Samsung Display, a spin-off of its LCD panel-making business. The new company will operate separately from Samsung Electronics, which will still make AMOLED displays for smartphones, tablets, and other mobile devices. Donggun Park, executive vice president and head of the former Samsung Electronics' LCD Business, was elected CEO of Samsung Display.

Once those wags at the FCC had finished joking about how difficult the Galaxy Pocket is to see with the human eye, it was time to get examining. Samsung's cellphone with a 2.8-inch display was revealed to be packing GSM 850 / 1900 and UMTS Band V radios that'll operate on AT&T's network (and those like it). The company hasn't committed to a US launch for the handset, but one thing is for sure: if it does arrive stateside, it'll come in very, very small boxes.

Samsung must be keenly aware that the Galaxy Nexus' battery life takes a hit on Verizon's LTE network: for a limited time, the outfit's throwing in a free 2,100mAh extended battery for first-time buyers (sorry, current Nexus owners are out of luck). To take advantage of the promotion, you'll have to purchase it through Samsung Direct (link below), which means you'll be paying $300 for the device and agreeing to a two-year contract. As Android and Me notes, though, you'd save quite a bit of money picking up the VZW Nexus and accompanying battery pack at Amazon for a combined $134. Suffice to say, then, this isn't a stellar deal, but those of you who disagree can avail yourselves through May ....

Apple and Samsung, though normally sworn enemies in the courtroom, are mighty forces when they combine powers — and by powers, I mean profit. It turns out the two smartphone vendors account for a whopping 95 percent of profit in the entire mobile industry.
Canaccord Genuity proclaimed these results just recently in a new study. Apple alone holds 80 percent of the profits. That shouldn’t be too much of a surprise considering its enormous freakin’ market cap. Samsung takes the other 15 percent. As for the remaining 5 percent, well let’s just say Motorola, HTC, LG, RIM, Nokia and all the other competitors aren’t doing so hot.

Samsung Galaxy S II on Three gets Ice Cream Sandwich

Samsung Galaxy S II owners who are signed up to Three can now update their phones to Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich). The network provider has made the new operating system available via Samsung Kies.
Samsung had previously announced that the software update would start to roll out to its devices from yesterday, 19 March, and it has remained true to its word. Three is the first network to announce its availability in the UK, however.
Previously, Samsung had released a statement saying that eventual roll-out dates for ICS would be left to individual providers. "The availability of software upgrades in the UK will be dependent upon each network’s own software approvals process," it said.

Samsung Galaxy Beam Projector Releases in India

Last month, Samsung unveiled their latest addition of the Galaxy Beam projector phone. Today, it was revealed that this device is now available on the consumer market in India. The device is run by the Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system and a 1.0 GHz dual-core processor. The projector portion is capable of displaying 15 ANSI lumens and a 640 x 360 resolution. Other major features include a camera, 8GB of internal memory, and an SD card slot. The company has not yet released a retail price at this time.

Samsung releases ICS update source code for Galaxy S II

Source code is for modders what chum is to sharks, and Samsung is stirring up the waters in the Samsung Galaxy S II community with the source code for the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update. The update has been working its way out to Europe and Asia, and now Samsung has released the source code for it.
It should be noted that this is obviously the code for the base version of the Galaxy S II (model GT-I9100), so there are no guarantees that the code will be able to be turned into custom ROMs for carrier variants of the device, like the AT&T Skyrocket, etc. Still, it could go a long way in helping modders create custom ROMs. It could definitely help out Team Douche in its work on Cyanogen...

Emoticons are the little smiley’s and other combinations of characters that people use online in text messages to indicate emotion. They’re sort of like online equivalent of a smirk to let people know you’re kidding or being sarcastic when you say something that could be construed as mean. This week a company called Varia Holdings filed a lawsuit against Samsung and RIM over patent infringement.
