Nokia Lumia 710 coming to WIND Mobile tomorrow, priced to sell

Posted on May 03, 2012 by MG1

The long wait is coming to an end soon, with Canada’s WIND Mobile unleashing the Nokia Lumia 710 tomorrow, offering the handset for free on 3 year WINDtab with WIND40 monthly plan (surely still a bad deal) or $99 on the WINDtab with the WIND25 monthly plan or finally $259 outright, which seems a low price to pay for freedom from being locked in for an eternity.

Minor Firmware Update for Nokia Lumia 800 not yet rolled out to end users; repairs audio volume bug

Minor Firmware Update for Nokia Lumia 800 not yet rolled out to end users; repairs audio volume bug

Posted on May 02, 2012 by MG1

Nokia has created a minor firmware update for the Nokia Lumia 800. The only problem is that the update, 12072, has not yet been rolled out globally by the Finnish based manufacturer. The update repairs an audio volume bug that came about after the previous update, 12070, fixed a Power Management Issue. Software version 12072 also includes a new camera app with updated camera settings. The audio volume bug is said to make playing video games difficult while at the same time it messes up the ringtone on your Nokia Lumia 800. The bug makes your phone ring super loud, even from the first second that a call hits your device.

Nokia Lumia 900 $100 credit now being delivered

Nokia Lumia 900 $100 credit now being delivered

Posted on Apr 30, 2012 by MG1

When Nokia discovered the problem with the LTE feature of Windows Phone 7 they handled the situation pretty well, delivering the fix in less than a week, and also offering buyers who purchased the handset before the 21st April a generous $100 credit towards their mobile phone bill.
In practice this means at least 1-2 months of free service on the carrier, and buyers are now reporting that the credit is being applied to their accounts.
While the bug was of course regrettable, it may very well have been the best PR a few million dollars could buy.

Nokia: No delay for Lumia 900

Nokia: No delay for Lumia 900

Posted on Apr 26, 2012 by MG3

Nokia has denied reports that it has had to push back the UK arrival of its Lumia 900. The manufacturer says the Windows Phone device remains on schedule and has told Pocket-lint that customers will be able to buy the phone in store “very soon”.
Nokia went on to add that the Lumia 900 was always down for a Q2 arrival and that the issue lay with dealers giving out pre-order dates online.
Phones 4u had originally said that they would be selling the phone from 27 April, but it would appear it jumped the gun, with its site still taking pre-orders for the handset.

Nokia reportedly delays Lumia 900 release in the UK, cites high US demand

Posted on Apr 25, 2012 by MG3

Despite remaining mum on how many Lumia 900s it's moved in the US, Nokia has been raving about how it's trying to keep up with demand for the flagship Windows Phone device. Consider us unsurprised, then, that the company has apparently delayed the phone's previous April 27th release date in the UK to "around May 14th," citing a need to keep the device stocked in the States. The news comes from V3.co.uk, which got the information from a Nokia spokesperson referring specifically to retailer Phones 4u. Hit up the links below if you'd like to catch the full spiel, and why not check out our review of a second time to solidify your decision while you wait.

Lumia 900 data connectivity fix finally available to Rogers customers

Posted on Apr 24, 2012 by MG3

When the Lumia 900 data connectivity fix was released to AT&T customers a full 3 days early, it was presumed that Rogers customers would have access to the fix at the same time. Unfortunately, they were informed that they would have to wait until “around April 20th” to get the update.
It looks like that update is finally available to our friends to the north, albeit a little late. Rogers customers can download and install the update through the Zune software on Windows or the Windows Phone 7 Connector app on OS X.

Nokia Windows Phone 8 handsets showing up on T-Mobile, Verizon

Nokia Windows Phone 8 handsets showing up on T-Mobile, Verizon

Posted on Apr 23, 2012 by MG3

Moving away from the hubbub about Windows Phone 8 upgrades, we now also have increasing evidence of actual new Windows Phone 8 hardware being tested in the wild.
The latest is via DSLReport’s mobile speed test, which shows the user agent of two Windows Phone 8 handsets, one named Qualcomm Fluid and the other Nokia Fluid. Both of course have been spotted before, but now the full user agent confirms that these are Windows Phone 8 handsets running IE10.
The Verizon handset also seems pretty snappy, likely indicating LTE on board. The same can unfortunately not be said for the T-Mobile speed test.

Canadian Nokia Lumia 900 users are still waiting for the LTE fix

The rapidity with which the Nokia Lumia 900 LTE issue was fix in USA, a mere 4 days after the problem was acknowledged, caused the issue to rapidly go out of mind.
Spare a though however to poor Rogers Nokia Lumia 900 owners who are still suffering the problem, nearly 2 weeks after the release of the handset, Nokia has been promising a fix today, but at the moment it looks like it may even be some time next week.

Can the Nokia Lumia 900 reinvent the Nokia brand to what it once was?

Can the Nokia Lumia 900 reinvent the Nokia brand to what it once was?

Posted on Apr 20, 2012 by MG1

We've been Nokia fans for a long time, but it has been a rough few years for the Finnish company. In the late 1990s and early 2000s, Nokia dominated the US and global market share. We all remember the Nokia 5100 and 6100 series, one of the company's most popular phones ever. And who could forget the Nokia 8110, featured in the hit film The Matrix?
In 2002, Research In Motion, the maker of BlackBerry, began to get more aggressive with their smartphone marketing, and had the insight to attack the business and government sectors. This strategy paid off for them as RIM began to erode Nokia's stronghold in the industry.

Nokia has a new promo video for its upcoming 41MP cameraphone, the 808 Pureview, and it says the PR footage was shot entirely with the phone itself.
The video details all photographic capabilities of the monster sensor inside the Nokia 808 PureView, and the photo samples used are once taken with the handset also. The silent lossless zoom, fine details and the rapid focusing speeds are being showcased in preparation for the phone's launch.
It is expected to arrive some time next month, so we can't wait to take it out for a spin, and dream about the times this mindboggling hardware will be stuffed into a Nokia Windows Phone handset heading for Verizon.
