Posted on Jun 04, 2012 by MG1

The Ice Cream Sandwich update LG promised in June is here, at least for one of its phones. We've gotten confirmation that the Optimus LTE software upgrade, which adds Android 4.0 as well as the Optimus UI 3.0, is now live for phones in Korea. LG PR rep Ken Hong has posted a picture of his Optimus LTE running Android 4.0.4, and we're keeping our eye out for similar updates elsewhere. Besides the Optimus LTE, LG has previously said that the Vu and Optimus LTE Tag will be getting Ice Cream Sandwich in June.

LG Spectrum Ice Cream Sandwich ROM leaks, update incoming?

There are a number of things you gotta love about the LG Spectrum. To start, it comes with a gorgeous HD display measuring 4.5 inches in diagonal, and you also get to enjoy Verizon's speedy 4G LTE network. There is a 1.5GHz dual-core processor inside it and an 8-megapixel camera at its back. Yet in charge of this potent hardware we still see the aging Android 2.3 Gingerbread.

LG Nitro HD gets a leaked build of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich

Posted on May 24, 2012 by MG3

When 720p displays are no longer deemed as unique, we sometimes forget that the LG Nitro HD was actually the first AT&T smartphone to offer one – then again, it’s still sporting Gingerbread. So yeah, some people have probably tried looking at other things to quench their thirst for the latest and greatest Android build.

LG Optimus 2X to get Ice Cream Sandwich in Q3

LG Optimus 2X to get Ice Cream Sandwich in Q3

Posted on May 15, 2012 by MG1

That the LG Optimus 2X is going to get Ice Cream Sandwich eventually is something that we know already. After all, the company itself made the announcement of an upcoming ICS update quite a while ago. However, we didn't have much information as to when the said update was going to be released... until today.
As stated by LG Mobile Singapore on Facebook, the LG Optimus 2X Android 4.0 update will start rolling out in Q3 of this year. In other words, there will be no Ice Cream Sandwich for LG Optimus 2X owners for at least another one and a half to three and a half months. Or at least not for those located in Singapore and the surrounding markets.

Nokia not worried about LG’s Windows Phone departure

Nokia not worried about LG’s Windows Phone departure

Posted on May 10, 2012 by MG1

Speaking to FierceWireless here, Chris Weber, Nokia’s president for the Americas, said he was not concerned with LG dropping out of the Windows Phone game to focus on Android, saying they were not a major player, and their exit will not have a significant impact.
"I see significant commitment from HTC, Samsung," Weber said. "I actually see increased momentum and commitment form a various set of OEMs on the platform."
He cited the recent announcement of the Samsung Focus 2 as an example of such commitment, saying the $50 handset would benefit the whole ecosystem.

LG Optimus S to resume Gingerbread update on April 4th

LG Optimus S to resume Gingerbread update on April 4th

Posted on Apr 03, 2012 by MG3

Back last September, Sprint started rolling out the Gingerbread update for the LG Optimus S. But the update had to be halted when owners of the device started having some issues. Some owners were having problems recharging their phone or connecting to data. Other problems included the failure of predictive text to appear while typing on the virtual QWERTY, an incorrect message would appear stating that the microSD card is unmounted, and when connected to a PC, the device was unrecognized by Windows XP, Vista, or Windows 7

New Images Of LG Windows Phone LS831 Emerges

Posted on Apr 03, 2012 by MG3

While we are still not sure about LG releasing another Windows Phone 7.5 device, there were numerous leaks on their devices/prototypes. This one is LS831 which we saw in last October when it passed the FCC. The device design looks outdated to me and it has a 5MP camera along with a front cam. Since it features a CDMA band, it should release only on Sprint in US if there is any possibility. Visit the source link for more images.

Even though LG announced Gingerbread update for the Optimus 3D smartphone almost 3 months ago, some carrier-specific models still didn’t get it. For instance, those of you who bought the device from Canada’s Rogers Wireless are still waiting for the official firmware upgrade. Your wait is over with Rogers and LG rolling out the new software as we speak, while all new customers will get the device with Android 2.3.5 preloaded.

LG Optimus Black Gingerbread update rolling out in Europe and India

LG Optimus Black Gingerbread update rolling out in Europe and India

Posted on Jan 25, 2012 by MG3

You know how they say – better late than never. That seems to be exactly what LG is thinking when it finally decided to release a Gingerbread update for its Optimus Black smartphone. Not sure why it took them so long, but the good thing is that the new Android version is now available to download. Actually, we’re hearing only users in Europe and India can grab Android 2.3.4, while the rest of the world will have to wait for few more days/weeks (we’re not sure).

LG’s Chromebook plans have apparently been outed, with Microsoft revealing the company is working on – or at least considering – using Google’s Chrome OS platform to create a cloud-loving notebook. The fast-booting OS was mentioned alongside Android in Microsoft’s triumphant patent announcement earlier, in which the software company said the new agreement covers “LG’s tablets, mobile phones and other consumer devices running the Android or Chrome OS Platform.”

LG announces ICS upgrades to begin in Q2 2012

Posted on Dec 27, 2011 by MG1

Following the footsteps of Samsung and Sony, LG has come forth with details on which devices will be getting Android 4.0 -- also known as Ice Cream Sandwich -- and when we can begin expecting those upgrades to roll out. The phone manufacturer made its official announcement via its Facebook page, stating that several of its 2011 models will be on the receiving end of ICS starting in the second and third quarters of next year, with a full-scale rollout occurring sometime afterward.
In the second quarter we should expect to see updates for the LG Optimus LTE, Prada 3.0, Optimus 2X, Optimus Sol, myTouch Q and the Eclipse. Fast forwarding to the third quarter, the Optimus 3D, Optimus Black, Optim...

AT&T's LG Nitro HD goes up for sale, LTE-enabled Gingerbread pep for $250

In case you forget that AT&T's latest LTE-equipped smartphone hit shelves today, consider this a friendly reminder from your mobile obsessed friends here at Engadget. We're talking about the LG's Nitro HD, the 4.5-inch device we lovingly handled last week -- loaded with a skinned version of Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread, running atop its peppy 1.5 GHz Qualcomm APQ8060 dual-core processor. If you'll recall, it's notably packing a 1280 x 720p screen resolution with an ultra-crisp looking 329ppi, an 8 megapixel rear camera (1.3 MP up front) and a healthy 4GB of internal storage supplemented by an included 16GB microSD card (expandable to 32GB). Thankfully, bloatware on the Nitro is at an all time lo...

Box gives LG Android users 50 GB of free storage

Box gives LG Android users 50 GB of free storage

Posted on Dec 01, 2011 by MG1

If you have an LG Android smartphone, I suggest you download the Box app and sign up for a free account because LG and Box have teamed up to give users 50 GB of free cloud storage for life.
If you’re not familiar with Box, it provides a cloud storage solution that will let you share documents, music, media and files across multiple devices. It’s similar to Dropbox but Box is more focused on the enterprise side of things and it offers more robust business capabilities though.
It has done a similar free 50 GB move with webOS and iOS and I wondered why it would be running these promotions which wind up hitting consumers.

LG revealed the news today in a Facebook post, specifying that the Optimus Black, Optimus 3D and Optimus LTE will all receive updates to Google's latest OS, along with the previously announced Optimus 2X.
