LG Optimus LTE Android 4.0 update now rolling out in Korea

The Ice Cream Sandwich update LG promised in June is here, at least for one of its phones. We've gotten confirmation that the Optimus LTE software upgrade, which adds Android 4.0 as well as the Optimus UI 3.0, is now live for phones in Korea. LG PR rep Ken Hong has posted a picture of his Optimus LTE running Android 4.0.4, and we're keeping our eye out for similar updates elsewhere. Besides the Optimus LTE, LG has previously said that the Vu and Optimus LTE Tag will be getting Ice Cream Sandwich in June.

It looks like LG will be spending June rolling out Ice Cream Sandwich updates to a few of its devices. According to the LG Newsroom, the LG Optimus LTE, Optimus LTE Tag, and Optimus Vu will all begin to see software upgrades available starting on June 4th.
All three devices will receive the new UI 3.0 interface with this update that adds a host of new features. The Optimus Vu will also be privy to some “additional features.” According to Engadget, some of those additional features will “take advantage of the extra-wide dimensions for side-by-side note-taking.”

LG Optimus LTE Tag with NFC announced in Korea

LG announced another LTE-enabled Android smartphone – Optimus LTE Tag. Initially available in South Korea only, the new phone is pretty much on par with Samsung Galaxy S II’s feature set, though LG’s device has a 5-megapixel camera (whereas the SGS2′s camera counts 8 megapixels). Heck, since it comes in white, we can’t say it doesn’t look similar to Sammy’s smartphone — then again, all modern phones look the same, sporting a huge touchscreen with very few buttons beneath.

LG Optimus LTE sales break 1 million units, took 3 months to do it

LG has just announced that the Optimus LTE has sold more than 1 million units. At fist glance that sounds like an awesome achievement, but looking at the numbers closely reveals some incredibly lackluster sales. First, the device went on sale in October 2011, meaning it’s been out on the market for 3 months. That would mean less than 350,000 units sold per month. Second, LG specially says that the device sold 600,000 units in South Korea. That would mean just 400,000 units left to be split among the three other countries where the device is available: the United States, Canada, and Japan. Following the footsteps of Samsung and Sony, LG has come forth with details on which devices will be getting Android 4.0 -- also known as Ice Cream Sandwich -- and when we can begin expecting those upgrades to roll out. The phone manufacturer made its official announcement via its Facebook page, stating that several of its 2011 models will be on the receiving end of ICS starting in the second and third quarters of next year, with a full-scale rollout occurring sometime afterward.

LG's list of Android 4.0 phones is about to get a little longer, now that the manufacturer has confirmed the arrival of Ice Cream Sandwich for even more handsets. LG revealed the news today in a Facebook post, specifying that the Optimus Black, Optimus 3D and Optimus LTE will all receive updates to Google's latest OS, along with the previously announced Optimus 2X. LG Optimus LTE now available at Bell

The LG Optimus LTE “Superphone” that Bell made available today has such a gorgeous display, 4.5-inches of “True HD” goodness that has a resolution of 1280 x 720 (see video here). Apart from rocking Android OS 2.3 (no plans yet on an upgrade to OS 4.0), the LG Optimus LTE has an 8-megapixel camera that shoots 1080p HD videos, 1.3 megapixel front-facing camera and a 1.5 dual-core processor. As for prices, Bell has pegged this in for $149.95 on a 3-year and ranges up to $629.95 on a no-contract.
