Samsung will launch this week two new Chrome OS-based computers, a laptop and desktop that have been designed to be significantly faster and more versatile than previous models. The new Samsung models will be available online today in the U.S. and May 30 in the U.K., and they will be for sale also at select Best Buy stores in the U.S. in June.
Along with the new Samsung computers, Google is announcing enhancements to Chrome OS and Google Apps, including tight integration with Google Drive and -- something previously promised -- the ability to edit Google Docs documents offline.

The 7-inch ASUS Eee Pad MeMO ME370T we saw in early prototype form during CES just passed through the FCC. It's still only showing WiFi radios with no trace of a cellular connection, although if it's going to be the $249 standard bearer NVIDIA and ASUS were so excited about, that's to be expected. A juicier rumor that has surfaced in the intervening period however, suggests this device will actually be released as a Google Nexus 7-inch tablet (or just sold from a Google store), and could even feature the next version of Android, codenamed Jelly Bean. Motorola is finally getting ready to unleash Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich on its Droid Razr line of devices.
A series of videos released today from Motorola Japan show off the new OS running on a Droid Razr device.
Motorola provided its own skin for Ice Cream Sandwich, replacing most of the smartphone's icons and adding some useful new features.
The biggest change is that four shortcuts now appear on the phone's lock screen, with Motorola adding messaging and dialer shortcuts to the standard Android 4.0 camera and unlock options.

Users of the HTC Sensation XL, mostly in Europe and Asia, have received the Android 4.0 update over the air. To make sure you have received it, go to Settings > About phone > Software updates and hit that button. You will be downloading a 200MB package which means those with a strict data cap might want to wait for a Wi-Fi connection before installing it. The exact build that you will be updating to is Android 4.0.3 while HTC Sense remains at 3.6. This brings users some of the new ICS features like Face Unlock, the new app dock and the multi-tasking menu. What you won't be getting is the new UI found on devices carrying HTC Sense 4.0.

Nearly one million iOS devices jailbroken over holiday weekend

Absinthe 2.0, the untethered jailbreak solution for iOS 5.1.1, has already been downloaded almost one million times. According to the Chronic Dev Team, 973,086 devices had been jailbroken as of Sunday evening, 211,401 of which were Apple’s newest iPad. The program, which was released to the public on Friday and runs on a computer connected to an iOS device, is compatible with A4 devices like the iPhone 3GS and iPad as well as A5 and A5X-powered devices such as the new iPad and iPhone 4. It is not compatible, however, with iPad 2 models powered by Apple’s newer 32-nanometer chipset, though this updated iPad 2 only became quietly available a few months ago.

The Oman Observer reports that Nokia’s Lumia series with Arabic support would be rolling out to the small middle-eastern country in Q3 2012.
“The Lumia series of smart phones built on the Microsoft Windows platform will hit the Omani market soon”, Dr Manmohan Singh Rehsi, Director, Computers, Office Automation and Telecommunication division of Mohsin Haider Darwish LLC told the Observer.

CyanogenMod Android hack hits 2 million installs

The hacked and completely fan-made Android-based ROM known as CyanogenMod has reached a massive 2 million installs this week, reminding us that it is far and away the most successful Android 3rd party system of all time. This update comes only a few months after CyanogenMod reached 1 million installs, the Google mobile OS-based hack growing now as what appears to be an exponential rate. The install rate is tracked by the CyanogenMod team’s own CM stat tracker which shows also that the last 24 hours have had an additional 11,294 installs as well.

An 80-inch touchscreen Windows 8 tablet already hangs on the wall of Microsoft CEO’s Steve Ballmer - and it could soon be made available to the public.
This is according to Frank Shaw, Microsoft vice-president, who said of Ballmer’s giant tablet added: “He’s got rid of his phone, he’s got rid of his notepaper. It’s [the tablet)] his whiteboard, his email machine, and it’s a device we’re going to sell.”
Interestingly the current version of the device - the one that hangs on Ballmer’s wall - runs on Windows 8 it but is actually made by a different manufacturer.

New images of a Nokia Lumia 800 handset running on wpbench revealed a list of Greek names for what we can only assume are codenames for upcoming Windows Phone-powered Nokia handsets. Shared by the My Nokia Blog, the images came from a user running the Windows Phone 7 benchmark on his Lumia 800. The names include Nokia PureLambda, Nokia Phi, Nokia Pure Phi and Nokia Alpha.

Microsoft: Windows XP costs businesses five times more than Windows 7

While many of us are thinking about the eventual shift to Windows 8, Microsoft is still trying to convince a number of businesses that moving from XP to Windows 7 is the right decision. To help get its point across, the company sponsored a white paper by analyst firm IDC that looks at the costs associated with the two different operating systems — and it turns out the using XP can be quite a bit more expensive for medium-to-large organizations. According to IDC — which interviewed nine different companies as part of the study — the IT and "end user labor" costs associated with XP can be up to five times more compared to using Windows 7.
