Verizon Galaxy Nexus pre-orders may begin tomorrow

Verizon Galaxy Nexus pre-orders may begin tomorrow

Posted on Nov 29, 2011 by MG1

There still has been no official word from Verizon, Google or Samsung about the impending release of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, but the rumors surrounding the launch are beginning to coalesce into believable information.
According to Computerworld, sources at Verizon have confirmed a number of key pieces of the puzzle. Apparently, the leak we saw over the holiday weekend about the on-contract price of the Nexus being $199 is also true. And, new information has confirmed both the release date and the pre-order dates.
One of the most helpful reports even came from a customer. Mike Peak apparently contacted Verizon to detail his anger over the handling of this release, after a number of e-mails...

Samsung Illusion to arrive for Verizon via direct fulfillment on November 23rd

Samsung Illusion to arrive for Verizon via direct fulfillment on November 23rd

Posted on Nov 22, 2011 by MG1

Almost a couple of weeks ago, we told you about the mid-level Samsung Illusion that was spotted on Verizon's Infocenter. Now, a leaked image of the phone's "Launch Package" shows that the phone will rollout in all channels November 23rd for Direct Fulfillment orders. The in-store release of the Samsung Illusion won't take place until January 12th 2012. No reason has been given for the long period between both launches.
Pricing has not been disclosed yet for the handset, which would not get confused with say, the Samsung GALAXY Nexus. First, there is the 3.5 inch screen with resolution of 320 x 480 with 512MB of RAM aboard. 2GB of native storage is matched by the pre-installed 2GB microSD car...

AT&T iPhone 4S crushes Verizon in data testing

AT&T iPhone 4S crushes Verizon in data testing

Posted on Nov 18, 2011 by MG1

AT&T’s HSPA+ network is the carrier’s iPhone 4S trump card, according to data speed analysis in the US, delivering websites twice as fast as CDMA rivals like Verizon. The fifth-gen Apple smartphone bested competing carriers on page rendering, uploads and downloads, analysts Metrico Wireless found in their testing of the iPhone 4S, though Verizon proved slightly more stable when it came to connecting – and not dropping – calls.

Google confirms Verizon's LTE Galaxy Nexus dimensions and specifications

Google confirms Verizon's LTE Galaxy Nexus dimensions and specifications

Posted on Nov 18, 2011 by MG1

Four zillion new Galaxy Nexus promo videos not enough to sate your appetite for superphones? We hear ya. Google's specifications portal just went live for Verizon's looming LTE version of the world's first Ice Cream Sandwich smartphone, and as expected, it's a wee bit bigger than the HSPA+ version. We heard back in Hong Kong that the LTE model would be slightly beefier -- presumably to house a larger battery to counter that energy-sucking LTE module -- and it seems that said scenario is indeed proving true. The HSPA+ build checks in at 135.5mm (h) x 67.94mm (w) x 8.94mm (d) thick, while the LTE model measures 135.5mm (h) x 67.94mm (w) x 9.47mm (d). That's right around half a millimeter thick...

Verizon restarts HTC DROID Incredible Gingerbread deployment

Verizon restarts HTC DROID Incredible Gingerbread deployment

Posted on Nov 15, 2011 by MG1

HTC and Verizon Wireless have apparently restarted the deployment of the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for the original DROID Incredible. Initially released back in September, the companies pulled the update shortly after it went out for undisclosed reasons. Here we are over two months later and users are reporting left and right that the upgrade is once again available to them. Users should get a notification on their devices when the update is ready to be downloaded and installed, or they can manually check through the Settings app on the phone itself.

Verizon's Motorola Droid Bionic now available for $119 at Amazon

Verizon's Motorola Droid Bionic now available for $119 at Amazon

Posted on Nov 09, 2011 by MG1

Amazon has once again lowered the price of Verizon’s Motorola Droid Bionic, now selling it for $119. Of course, a new two-year contract is required but that’s like given these days. And that’s still much lower than $249, which is the phone’s price at Verizon’s website.
Now, we all know Verizon will soon start selling the Droid RAZR that we also know as the “world’s thinnest smartphone” as well as the Nexus Galaxy, both of which are better in some ways than the Droid Bionic. Actually, RAZR is only thinner than the Bionic, while the rest of the specs are pretty much identical. That said, the Bionic is still one of the best smartphones in the Big Red’s portfolio and grabbing it for 120 bucks ma...

Motorola DROID 4 makes appearance in Verizon's computer system

Motorola DROID 4 makes appearance in Verizon's computer system

Posted on Nov 08, 2011 by MG1

We recently were able to show you some pictures of the Motorola DROID 4, and the phone now shows up in Verizon's internal testing system and on another inventory list. Between that information and what we told you about previously, the DROID 4 will have a 4 inch screen like the DROID 3, but this time it will be a Super AMOLED Advanced screen with qHD resolution-similar to what the 4.3 inch screen on the Motorola DROID RAZR is made of.
The internal testing data confirms earlier suspicions that the Motorola DROID 4 will be running over Verizon's LTE 4G network. It will be the first of the QWERTY-equipped Motorola DROID line to offer LTE connectivity. Also, the internal testing data shows that...

Verizon's November Roadmap includes Galaxy Nexus, new Xoom tablets

Verizon's November Roadmap includes Galaxy Nexus, new Xoom tablets

Posted on Nov 08, 2011 by MG1

It looks like the Samsung Galaxy Nexus is going to hit shelves a lot sooner then we all thought. A leaked Verizon road map suggests a November 21 “web only” launch date for the next big Android handset. This news comes after reports first suggested a launch on the 10th then that date switched to a Nov. 17 launch. Rumor after rumor seems to come almost daily, as Verizon keeps pushing the actual release date all over the place.
Maybe this Nov. 21 date sticks, especially since it happens to be on the same week as Black Friday and the release of the Droid Razr according to the road map. It would be a smart move for America’s largest carrier to release one of the most anticipated phones of the ye...

Verizon Wireless offers double the data for 4G smartphone owners

Verizon Wireless offers double the data for 4G smartphone owners

Posted on Nov 08, 2011 by MG1

Verizon Wireless has announced a limited-time promotion that provides double the amount of data usage for the same price to new and existing 4G LTE smartphone owners. Starting tomorrow, 4G customers can opt for a 4GB data plan that costs the same $30 per month as the normal 2GB plan.
Verizon did not say when this promotion is scheduled to end, but new customers will get the bonus 2GB automatically, while existing customers have to change their plan to the new 4GB version in order to take advantage of it. Customers can do this by calling Verizon's customer care department or by logging in to their My Verizon accounts and making the switch themselves.

Samsung Galaxy Nexus might land on Verizon November 17

Samsung Galaxy Nexus might land on Verizon November 17

Posted on Nov 07, 2011 by MG1

A "work in progress" doc from Verizon's system had been snapped, and it indicates that the Samsung Galaxy Nexus might be hitting the channels November 17, with in-store marketing commencing two days earlier.
Now the guy that sent it warns that this is still not final: "been told the document pictured is a work in progress that will be sent out next week to all retail stores/partners along with promotional materials such as posters and flyers", but let's hope that the wording of the launch memo is work in progress, not the date itself.
Makes perfect sense to us, considering worldwide (well, European) launch scheduled for the same date, so, bring it on, Verizon, don't wait for those crazy days...

HP Pre 3 death not exaggerated, FCC autopsy reveals Verizon life that never was

HP Pre 3 death not exaggerated, FCC autopsy reveals Verizon life that never was

Posted on Nov 07, 2011 by MG1

While we will never see the Pre 3 adorning the AT&T shelves of phone stores, the FCC at least had the courtesy to investigate HP's final webOS device in detail, though we doubt they were able to conclude the precise cause of death. The full devastating teardown reveals some Sandisk flash storage, and a tightly packed interior. There's another interesting detail found in those external images, too. As a previous leak had suggested, this model was destined for the Big Red, with a not-so enigmatic Verizon logo etched into the metallic slide-out backing. The full internal rundown is in the gallery below. Tissues are in that box to your right.

HTC Rezound announced for Verizon Wireless, lands November 14th for $300

Posted on Nov 04, 2011 by MG1

HTC took the wraps off of the HTC Rezound during a press event in New York City on Thursday, a new 4G LTE Android smartphone for Verizon Wireless that takes advantage of the HTC’s Beats Audio technology. The Rezound is equipped with a 4.3-inch touchscreen with a sharp 1280 x 720-pixel HD resolution, a dual-core processor clocked at 1.5GHz and 1GB of RAM. It will also ship with Beats headphones in the box. The phone will hit store shelves with Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) installed but Verizon Wireless confirmed an upgrade to Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) will be available in “early” 2012. Other features include 16GB of internal memory, GPS/AGPS, a 1,620 mAh battery and support for Bluetooth ...

Gingerbread update for Verizon's LG Revolution is being pushed out as we speak

Gingerbread update for Verizon's LG Revolution is being pushed out as we speak

Posted on Nov 02, 2011 by MG1

Sure it might have been the least favorable of the initial three 4G LTE smartphone offerings from Verizon Wireless, but in any event, the LG Revolution is finally packing its Froyo bags and moving right up to Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Naturally, the wait was a lengthy one for handset owners, but it’s nonetheless ever so sweet for them.
Bringing up its software version to VS910ZV7, the update brings forth the entire usual suspect of features commonly associated with the sweet tasting snack. Beyond that, it packs along a few things that enhance both the email and messaging experience. And of course, it’s packing some other enhancements and bug fixes to fine tune the overall experience for users...

LG Revolution 2 could be coming to Verizon as the LG Spectrum

LG Revolution 2 could be coming to Verizon as the LG Spectrum

Posted on Nov 02, 2011 by MG1

So what has become of the LG Revolution 2? Popping up only three months after the launch of the first-gen model, the Revolution 2 was rumored to offer a 4.5 inch screen; the device quickly dropped out of the public eye and has been unheard from since. Now, a couple of screenshots show a device called the LG Spectrum in Verizon's computer system.
While there is no smoking gun link to the LG Revolution, note how the LG Spectrum is listed right under the former handset on the first screenshot. Like the LG Revolution, the LG Spectrum is an LTE enabled device and adds global functionality. As far as a launch date and pricing is concerned, we honestly have a paucity of information about this dev...
