The latest product off Samsung's near-constant conveyor belt, the Galaxy Y, has been spotted loitering around Vodafone UK stores. The "youth"(translation: entry-level) smartphone arrives with a slightly better spec sheet than the Korean giant's cheapest Android phone, the Galaxy Mini, although you shouldn't expect a load of GS II-eque features. The petite handset includes a two megapixel camera, a three-inch touchscreen, an 832MHz CPU, and the typical wireless medley of Bluetooth, 801.11 b/g/n WiFi and GPS -- all packed into a 3.5 ounce shell running Google's Gingerbread OS. Sure, there's no 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Plus screen, but for just £10.50 per month, we may be willing to overlook it.

Samsung now wants to ban iPhone 4S sales in Australia and Japan

The ongoing legal battle between Apple and Samsung gets another turn as Samsung now has filed motion for an injunction on Apple iPhone 4S sales in Japan and Australia. Earlier, the Korean company said that it will try to ban sales of the iPhone 4S in France and Italy just a day after its launch as the handset allegedly infringes on its patents.
"In light of these violations, Samsung believes the sale of such Apple devices should be banned," Samsung said in a statement.

US judge denies Apple some bans, says Samsung is copying

Federal court Judge Lucy Koh on Thursday tentatively denied some of Apple's calls for a preliminary US ban on Samsung devices. She believed there wasn't enough of an urgent case to ban the hardware based on a "utility" patent but hadn't issued a definitive verdict on three design-related patents. Apple might have trouble proving the patents were violated, she said.
Koh also wasn't convinced Apple couldn't just recoup any lost damages at the trial itself.
In spite of the apparent relief, Koh made it clear she was likely to side with Apple in the long term. She believed Galaxy Tab models "do infringe" on patents relating to the iPad, even if Apple couldn't prove validity at this stage. In co...

Just like we'd heard, we'll be getting our first taste of Ice Cream Sandwich next week, on October 19th to be precise. Of course we've already had a whiff of what it looks like in a video, and sampling the new Music and Google+ apps gave us another good look. But now we're set to see it for real, and if all goes well we might just get some new hardware out of the deal, too. Apple has secured a temporary ban on the sale of Samsung tablets in Australia after launching legal action against the Korean company for allegedly copying the iPad too closely. In the federal court of New South Wales, Justice Annabelle Bennett granted the injunction, which prohibits the sale of Samsung's tablets until the lengthy patent battle between the two technology giants has been resolved.

If you’re looking for a “different” budget Android smartphone, maybe O2 UK has something for you. The Telefónica-owned operator is now offering the Samsung Galaxy Ace Purple, which as you can imagine is a version of the Galaxy Ace in purple. Not sure why the name change was needed, but hey – God knows what the marketing folks of today’s mobile operators are thinking. As far as I’m concerned it could be just an SEO trick to get people googling “galaxy” and “purple” to O2′s website.
Anyway, aside from the color change, there’s not a single difference under the hood. In other words, expect the same 800MHz processor, 5-megapixel camera, HSPA and Wi-Fi connectivity, GPS, Bluetooth and so on.

The Samsung Galaxy W has surfaced and looks to be heading to T-Mobile as the Exhibit II 4G. The handset was first revealed back in August, when Samsung unveiled its new naming scheme for its smartphone product lines. The “S” series, as in the Galaxy S, represented its flagship line followed by R, W, M, and Y series in descending order, which marks the Samsung Galaxy W, or Exhibit II 4G, to be a mid-range device.

Sure, we knew this day was coming, but now the wait is finally over. Now the main question for T-Mobile customers at the end of their contract is whether to pick up the Samsung Galaxy S II or HTC Amaze 4G. Both handsets are now on sale from the carrier, running $229 and $259, respectively (plus plan, post-rebate, naturally). Samsung offers updated Galaxy smartphone in Europe to evade sales ban

Samsung has revealed that it will launch updated versions of three of its Galaxy smartphones in Europe in order to avoid a sales ban imposed by a Dutch court. The court ruled that three of Samsung's smartphones violated Apple'spatents, and banned them from sale with a grace period ending on October 14 to give Samsung some time to address the issue.
The three phones affected are the Galaxy S, Galaxy S II, and Galaxy Ace, and the updated versions feature a modified way of scrolling through lists and browsing photos that does not infringe on Apple's patents.

Upcoming Samsung Galaxy S II update comes with bigger icons, FOTA widget

Samsung will soon start pushing a new firmware update for its flagship Galaxy S II smartphone. As far as we know, it will be a small release, packing two noticeable changes – bigger icons (up to 30% bigger) and the System Update widget, from where users will be able to quickly see whether a new software version is available and promptly take action.
Aside from that, it’s kinda safe to assume there will be some other changes under the hood, though at the moment we can’t confirm this. Similarly, I guess some of the Samsung apps will get tweaks and the device should be faster after the update.
