German court dismisses second Samsung patent suit against Apple
Like UnlikeFiled in: SamsungApple
Merely a week passed after a German court dismissed Samsung’s patent infringement lawsuit against Apple in the European country, and now the second lawsuit has also been rejected, according to a report by Florian Mueller of FOSS Patents.
Samsung is accusing Apple of violating on some of its patents regarding 3G and UMTS technologoy, but Judge Andreas Voss of the Mannheim Regional Court in Germany dismissed those allegations.
That’s not the end of the legal saga in Europe, though - Samsung has three other lawsuits filed regarding 3G and UMTS, and the outcome of them will depend on the judge’s decision of how valid the Koreans patent really is. If the patent is indeed valid Samsung could still...

Samsung Wave Y LeFleur Edition revealed
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesSamsungWave Y
If you thought the one thing missing from Samsung’s entry-level Wave Y S5380 phone was a pink floral design, you’re in luck. The manufacturer has launched a new version of the device, dubbed the LaFleur edition, with a bold pink-and-black motif. The inscription “LaFleur” appears on the front of the phone while the back, donned in pink, is etched with a full-body floral print.
The Samsung Wave Y S5380 runs on the Bada 2.0 platform, which is designed for low-end handsets. The S5380 is the lowest of those low-end devices, coming in at an unsubsidized price of just $165, at least in the Ukraine. That remains the only country where the LaFleur edition phone is available, at least for the time bei...

Samsung Epic 4G Touch update pulls Carrier IQ
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesSamsungEpic 4G Touch
As part of its promise to back away from Carrier IQ on its handsets, Sprint's latest software update for its Samsung Epic 4G Touch removes it. The EL29 update is also said to bring with it a number of other changes, such as a security update, the activation of the Commercial Alert System, and dismissing multiple calendar alerts.
The phones will be updated to version S:D710.10S.EL29. The update will take 10 days to reach all Epic 4G Touch handsets from Sprint, although it may be possible to speed the update through checking manually. Detailed changes, such as a new phone answer screen are present on the device as well.

Samsung 2011 Q4 earnings official: $42 billion in sales, $4.7 billion operating profit
Like UnlikeFiled in: Samsung
It might not be making as much money as the competition in Cupertino, but that doesn't mean Samsung isn't raking in cash at an astonishing clip. We reported earnings estimates a few weeks ago, but now it's official that the firm posted a 5.3 trillion won ($4.7 billion) operating profit in Q4 2011. That represents over a 2 trillion won ($1.8 billion) increase year over year. In all, it pulled in 47.3 trillion won ($42 billion) in sales, thanks in no small part to the over 300 million phones Sammy sold last year. While mobile accounted for roughly 40 percent of company sales and half of its operating profit (2.6 trillion won, or $2.3 billion), its semiconductor business did almost as well, rak...

Amazon Wireless offering up the Samsung Galaxy Nexus for only $100
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesSamsungAmazonGALAXY Nexus
Amazon Wireless is known for some rockin’ deals when it comes to new smartphones but its latest offering is a doozy. You can grab the Samsung Galaxy Nexus for a mere $100 on a new two-year contract with Verizon.
The Galaxy Nexus was officially released on Verizon just a little over a month ago, so seeing the powerful handset come in at this price is pretty awesome. Those who craved the Pure Google experience on the handset but weren’t in love with paying up $300 now have their chance to get the best of both worlds. That said, if you’re serious about grabbing one of these bad boys at this discounted rate, we’d suggest you do so as soon as possible. At this price, the offer probably won’t be a...

Galaxy Note S Pen makes sense for larger screens, says Samsung
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesSamsungGALAXY Note
Could the Galaxy Note's S Pen stylus be coming to other Samsung products in the future? That's the proposition hypothesized by Ryan Bidan, Samsung's product marketing manager, in an interview with Laptop. He thinks that the stylus "continues to make a lot of sense across a number of screen sizes, like the larger is more obvious of those," before going on to say "that’s about as specific as I can be without announcing a product." That would certainly seem to suggest that Samsung is considering the S Pen for future models of its Galaxy Tab, though we suppose he could also be talking about Windows 8 devices. We didn't find much use for the S Pen in our Galaxy Note review, but it's possible that...

Samsung Galaxy Nexus coming to T-Mobile?
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesSamsungT-MobileGALAXY Nexus
The Samsung Galaxy Nexus is not only the first handset running on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, but many also consider it to be simply the best Android device made so far and that’s why the possibility of it arriving on T-Mobile sounds particularly exciting. The Galaxy Nexus is already available on Verizon Wireless and Sprint, but it has skipped AT&T and T-Mobile.
Now, evidence has popped up that a mysterious Samsung-T999, a handset with a screen resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels, matching the one on the Galaxy Nexus, is indeed arriving on T-Mobile. Not only that, but the T999 model name matches the naming scheme of T-Mobile: T for the name of the carrier and the typical 9 at the end.

Samsung Galaxy S III's MWC debut reportedly canceled
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesSamsungGalaxy S III
The highly anticipated follow up to Samsung’s Galaxy S II will not be unveiled at next month’s Mobile World Congress, according to The Verge. The Galaxy S III was rumored to be debuting in Barcelona next month, however it has reportedly now been delayed. The reason for delay was not disclosed, although it is still slated to be released “before summer” according to the report. The Galaxy S II was announced at last year’s Mobile Wold Congress, but Samsung is said to have been uncomfortable with the long delay between the global launch and availability in the U.S., where it is the most popular Android vendor. The company will still feature “interesting stuff” in place of the Galaxy S III, perha...

Huawei puts HTC, Samsung to shame with an Ice Cream Sandwich phone first
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesOperating SystemsSamsungHTCHuaweiGoogleAndroid 4.0
Android 4.0 “Ice Cream Sandwich” is now available on the first non-Nexus phone in the world, but it’s not from Samsung or HTC, as you might expect. Instead, Huawei can lay claim to the honour of being first out of the gate, while almost everyone else was stuck showing off new Android 2.3 “Gingerbread” phones at CES two weeks ago.
The rather charming Huawei Honor, with a 4-inch display, 1.4GHz processor and 8-megapixel camera is the first phone to ship with Android Ice Cream Sandwich out of the box, apart from the Google-backed Samsung Galaxy Nexus (The older Nexus S has also already received the update).

Samsung NX200 coming in February?
Like UnlikeFiled in: CamerasSamsungNX200
Rumours are suggesting that Samsung will announce an NX20 in February, which will then be available from April.
Seemingly another manufacturer that is keen to cash in on the popular retro trend that is currently being displayed by the likes of the Fujifilm X Pro1 and the Olympus PEN E-P3, the Samsung NX20 is said to feature a vintage design.
Other rumoured specs include a 1.8 million pixel electronic viewfinder, full manual control and a swivelling AMOLED display screen.
Sources suggest that the new compact system camera will have the same sensor as the Samsung NX200, but will feature a faster processor and buffer. Two new lenses, a 16-80mm and 12-24mm, are also rumoured to be making their d...

Samsung Launches Series 9 All-in-One PC
Like UnlikeFiled in: Desktop ComputersSamsung
Samsung has released Series 9 All-in-One (or simply AIO), and more specifically the model that was released today carries a model number 900A7A. It adopts a similar design as Samsung's Series 7 T27B750 display, which we covered earlier. The most unique feature in Series 9 AIO is the support for 3D. We have seen several AIOs with 3D panels from Sony and HP, but the Series 9 seems to be the first 27" one.

Dutch Court Denies Apple's Second Shot at a Galaxy Tab 10.1 Ban
Like UnlikeFiled in: SamsungApple
We've all been told, "If at first you don't succeed, try, try again," but repeated attempts at the same result don't guarantee success. Apple, for example, tried to convince Dutch authorities to issue a preliminary injunction against Samsung's Galaxy Tab 10.1 device on the alleged basis that it copies the look and feel of it's iPad, a notion that was rejected, appealed, and rejected again.
Foss Patents breaks down the ruling (available online in Dutch), explaining that the rationale in this latest decision is similar to the one that guided Judge Lucy Koh of the United States District Court for the Northern District of California, who also denied Apple's request for a preliminary injunction (...

Galaxy S III is a quad-core-packing,12 megapixel-toting beast set for MWC
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesSamsungGalaxy S III
While we already figured the Samsung Galaxy S III would be announced during Mobile World Congress next month, a tweet from Eldar Murtazin has further confirmed this, along with a few specs of the handset.Everything mentioned seems to be what we’d expect from Samsung for its next flagship device but we hadn’t heard that the handset would be rocking a 12 megapixel camera, even from rumors, until now. Given that HTC and Sony have already announced handsets with 16 and 12 megapixel cameras, it’s looking like the start of a new trend. With ridiculous camera sensors found on mobile phones today, we wish that some manufacturer would squeeze in a Xenon flash at some point.

Samsung Galaxy Note White hits the UK today
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesSamsungGALAXY Note
The folks at Samsung have dropped the white bomb on the United Kingdom today with an almost surprise release of the Samsung Galaxy Note in white. This device has been released in black back in November, but as you know, everyone likes to get their devices in pearl these days to match their winter hats and so forth. Users will be able to pick up their purchases exclusively from John Lewis on Oxford Street London starting on the 23rd of January.
