Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesApple
Here’s a wild rumour to sit alongside the latest chatter about the iPhone 5 launch: the cheaper iPhone we’ve been calling the iPhone 4S is coming, will have substantially less flash storage than we’re used to and will rely heavily on iCloud to do its magic. The new name being pinned to this currently mythical device? The iCloud iPhone. Yes, really.

Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesPortable Media PlayersAppleiPhone 4s
The focus of attention of upcoming Apple products is clearly on the iPhone 5. Apple might pull though another very interesting product out of their hat this fall. The new 2011 iPod nano could become a multipurpose companion device for your iPhone 5. 9to5Mac dives into this topic with a lengthy article. Apple is into low-power Bluetooth 4.0 right now, which would be key to enable a new iPod nano to communicate with a new iPhone. The new iPod nano could display SMS, Tweets and Facebook updates on your wrist or wherever you attach it.

Unreleased MacBook Pro prototype with built-in 3G hits eBay
Like UnlikeFiled in: NotebooksApple
A still-ongoing eBay auction has validated suspicions that Apple has been testing 3G-capable Macs for years. The 2007-era MacBook Pro prototype, originally bought off of Craigslist for parts, has a built-in Dynastream ANT2USB modem modified to fit in the aluminum chassis. It includes not just the necessary SIM card slot for the HSPA 3G access but a retractable antenna that would sit flush with one corner of the display.

Production of Apple's next-gen A6 processor begins at TSMC; A6 devices to launch Q2 2012
Like UnlikeFiled in: CPUApple
Trial production of Apple’s next-generation A6 mobile processor has begun, Taiwan Economic News reports. Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. has kicked off a test run of A6 chipsets — which could be 28-nanometer SoCs that feature dual or quad-cores and ARM-based architecture according to earlier reports — and Apple devices carrying the new chips are expected to be released in the second quarter next year at the earliest, according to multiple anonymous industry sources. Reports dating back to June suggested that Apple dumped Samsung following multiple patent disputes, and the company would instead utilize TSMC for production of its next-generation A6 processor.

Apple patent reveals it hasn't dropped the idea to make switching carriers a breeze
Like UnlikeFiled in: Apple
Remember when European carriers went Tony Soprano on Apple when it wanted to plant an embeddable, programmable SIM card in its next iPhone? They threatened to cut subsidies for the iPhone, and let it wither and die under the crush of its own price tag, if Apple tries to circumvent them.

Is this the iPhone 5? Nah, but it's the best fake we've seen so far
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesAppleiPhone 4s
Okay, hold your breaths, clean your glasses and watch carefully... this may not be the iPhone 5, but it's the best fake we've seen so far. It's more than just a picture – it's a whole video claiming to be recorded from Apple's Swiss website, where the iPhone 5 page has been supposedly put on the web and accessible via a hidden link. Ridiculous? Yes. But wait until you see the skill and time invested in this footage – it includes a whole gallery of pictures allegedly showing the next-gen iPhone, but also a separate page listing its full specifications including a dual-core A5 chip and an 8-megapixel camera capable of 1080p video recording at 30fps.

June had a special place in the hearts and calendars of Apple fans until this year when Cupertino broke some hearts by not announcing a new iPhone in accordance with its usual yearly routine. But Verizon and its chief financial officer were also disappointed:
"Obviously we're disappointed that the iPhone 5 didn't come out in June … we continue to prepare for it and when that comes we'll be ready," Fran Shammo shared his thoughts on a webcast this week.

Apple working on pico-projector tech for iPhone, Mac
Like UnlikeFiled in: ProjectorsApple
Apple may be working on pico-projector technology that could be used with its iPhone and Mac products according to a patent filing discovered by UnwiredView. The patent, titled “Projected display shared workspaces,” shows how one might be able to use an iPhone or Mac to project content onto a larger open space, such as a wall, by attaching a small pico-projector. In addition, users could control the projection using multitouch gestures on their iPhone screen or Mac trackpad. The patent reminds us of AT&Ts LG eXpo, which had its own projector accessory but wasn’t much of a hit with consumers. Read on for a second image from Apple’s patent.

China uncovers 22 additional fake Apple Stores
Like UnlikeFiled in: Apple
Authorities with China’s Administration for Industry and Commerce have uncovered 22 additional fake Apple Store outlets in Kunming, the largest city in the Yunnan Province, Reuters reported on Thursday. Kunming is where a blog named BirdAbroad first revealed the existence of unofficial Apple Stores that posed as the real deal. In late July Chinese officials closed down two of the stores for lacking business licenses, but allowed others to remain open because they have licenses to trade and sell genuine Apple products. Now, the stores are being forced to remove Apple’s official logo after Apple China accused them of violating its trademark. The Administration for Industry and Commerce will se...

The folks over at MacRumors have gone above and beyond when it comes to rumor-mongering, as the company has taken the supposed leaked iPhone 5 cases and created some 3D models. Is this what the next iPhone will look like?
The Apple iPhone 5 will reportedly be thinner than the current model, will have roughly a 4-inch screen and it should have boosted internals. We expect a dual-core processor, a bump in the RAM and perhaps an 8-megapixel camera.

Nintendo investors pressuring developers to support iPhone, iPad

Ever since Apple started taking gaming more serious with its iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad, Nintendo has been feeling the most pressure as these devices directly compete with their handhelds. Nintendo’s President, Satoru Iwata, came out a few months ago telling developers to outright ignore smartphones, but it looks like investors of Nintendo can’t help but take notice of the increasing popularity of Apple’s devices, especially when Nintendo’s latest handheld, the Nintendo 3DS, isn’t selling well.

We can't stop iPhone rumors any more than we can stop the seasons or the tides, especially when those rumors focus on the mythical low-cost iPhone which consumers have been calling for since the iPhone first launched. The newest rumor comes from Apple 'n' Apps Trevor Sheridan, who says he spoke with 3 sources "connected to Apple". Not the most to work with, but it'll have to do.
