Apple iTV OS demo scheduled for WWDC

Apple iTV OS demo scheduled for WWDC

Posted on May 31, 2012 by MG3

BGR has learned from a trusted source that Apple is planning to demonstrate a brand new version of the Apple TV operating system next week at WWDC. This new OS is said to be much more feature-complete than the current OS that runs on the Apple TV, and is apparently the one that Apple’s upcoming HDTV will run. Yes, that one.
We’ve heard Apple is actively trying to court manufacturers to use a new “control out” API in order for third-party manufacturers to make accessories that are compatible with the new Apple TV OS and the upcoming “iTV.” It’s said that by using the API, it will be possible to control any connected components all from the Apple remote (and the Apple remote iOS app as well, w...

Apple’s Chinese manufacturing partner Foxconn has reportedly begun accepting orders to build an Apple TV set, according to Chinese news website Sina. The publication’s sources claim the long rumored iTV is currently in the “trial production stage,” however more details were not given. Earlier this month Foxconn’s CEO denied that his company would soon begin manufacturing a television for Apple. It has long been rumored that the Cupertino-based company was looking to enter the TV market with an HDTV that will reportedly look much like the company’s current LED Cinema Display. The device is said to feature an aluminum casing, iOS, Siri voice controls and an iSight camera for FaceTime video cha...

Apple’s ‘iTV’ might not be a TV at all

For all the rumors surrounding Apple’s upcoming HDTV, very few well-sourced reports have emerged regarding the high-definition flat-screen television that has market leaders responding even before any official “iTV” is unveiled. Recent claims suggest Apple has an aluminum HDTV in the works powered by iOS and Siri voice controls, but further details are conflicting. A number of analysts have backed away from the idea of an Apple television recently, but late Apple co-founder Steve Jobs’s exclamation that he “cracked” the TV conundrum will ensure that rumors continue to swirl. According to some new speculation, however, Apple’s upcoming “iTV” might not be a TV at all.

In a recent blog post, F...

Anthony DiClemente, a media analyst for Barclays, said in a recent note to investors that he doesn’t believe Apple will be able to change the cable industry with its rumored “iTV,” AllThingsD reported on Monday. DiClemente thinks Apple could unveil an incredible piece of hardware, possibly one that looks like a “large-scale iPad,” that would tie together the Internet with the company’s existing suite of iOS apps and services. The analyst also speculates that the Cupertino-based company’s device could retail for $1,500 or more and incorporate its Siri voice assistant with a “groundbreaking interface” that is ”so much more than a TV — including gaming, video communication, content delivery, ap...

The Internet is the Future for HDTV Success

The Internet is the Future for HDTV Success

The TV industry is changing and it looks like TV manufacturers could lose the battle. In recent years the internet has provided a whole new way to provide content to people. While TVs have tried their hardest to provide internet access to their consumers, to many it just doesn’t seem worth the purchase. Instead they are turning to their computers, tablets, and even their smartphones and watching content through them instead of watching it on a huge 46 inch screen. One of the main reasons why the TV lags behind with providing internet content is to the lack of content available to them. Last year, Google tried to provide a platform that gave TVs the same unlimited internet access that any com...

Apple may partner with Verizon, AT&T and others for iTV content

Posted on Feb 07, 2012 by MG1

Apple will launch its own HDTV called the “iTV,” analyst Peter Misek of Jefferies & Company said on Monday. We’ve written dozens of reports on Apple’s alleged upcoming HDTV, and most speculate that the device will run a version of iOS along with the company’s Siri voice engine that will remove the need for a traditional remote control. Misek also said that Apple is in talks to partner with carriers such as Verizon Wireless and AT&T for access to exclusive and non-exclusive content, Bloomberg reported on Monday. Best Buy recently leaked possible details on the iTV and the retailer’s survey suggested the device will have a 42-inch display and a $1,499 price tag. The TV could launch near the mi...

Apple's iTV launch reportedly hampered by display availability

Apple has been widely rumored to be readying a Siri-enabled television for release this year, but a new report claims component availability issues will prevent the highly anticipated “iTV” from launching in the first half. Citing unnamed sources within Apple’s supply chain, DigiTimes on Friday reports that Sharp, rumored to have been contracted to supply display panels for Apple’s debut HDTV, is not yet ready to ship the indium gallium zinc oxide (IGZO) panels Apple will use in its iTV. According to the site’s sources, upcoming HDTV models from Samsung and LG will occupy much of the OLED panel capacity during the first half, so Apple has chosen to instead utilize IGZO panels. Sharp is repor...

Everyone is really hoping that Apple will release their first HDTV this year. But if Apple is not satisfied with their product it will never be released. Today, an anonymous Apple employee tipped the news that Apple has been having “problems” securing the deals they want in order to provide the content they want to give the consumers. The tip helps confirm that Apple is developing their own set of HDTVs, but doesn’t help tell when these sets will be unveiled to the public. The other major tip this worker gave was that one of the TVs measures 50 inches, diagonally, which is bigger than previously predicted.

Apple will 'absolutely' launch a TV, Siri to replace remote according to report

Apple has been planning to redesign the television since 2007 and when it finally launches the new set, it will replace the age-old remote control with Siri voice commands, The New York Times reported on Thursday. A recent quote from Steve Jobs’s biography — “I finally cracked it” — began circulating recently and, for many, it seemed to solidify rumors that Apple was going to enter the television market. The New York Times believes that quote was actually in reference to Jobs’s realization that Siri could be used to control a TV much better than a remote or a combination of a mouse and keyboard. You might be able to say “Play Arrested Development,” or “turn on the weather” from the comfort ...

Steve Jobs’s biography is out today. And the stories about just what Apple’s late CEO had planned and who he wanted to take down just keep on coming. Today’s most telling tidbit, though, concerns Apple TV.

Not the set top box but a flatscreen Apple TV that Jobs claimed to have “cracked” before his death earlier this month. Read on to find out just what he had to say about this unreleased Apple gadget.

Speaking to his biographer Walter Isaacson, Jobs said, “I’d like to create an integrated television set that is completely easy to use. It would be seamlessly synced with all of your devices and with iCloud.’No longer would users have to fiddle with complex remotes for DVD players and cable c...

Apple may have iOS powered TV planned for fall launch

Posted on Jun 22, 2011 by MG3

Apple may have an iOS powered TV in the works. According to Daily Tech, one former Apple executive recently said that customers will soon be able to “go into an Apple retail store and be able to walk out with a TV. It’s perfect.” Apple won’t build the televisions itself, though. Instead a manufacturer like Samsung may be behind the product. The former exec also said that the Cupertino-based firm will “blow Netflix and all those other guys away,” so we presume there’s a connected aspect that will allow users to access iTunes content in a manner similar to the current Apple TV product. Apple has been rumored to be working on a connected television numerous times in the past, though obviously n...
