AT&T Toggle separates your mobile work and play, allows for IT meddling

Having trouble separating your bird slingshotting from your mergers and acquisitions? Have no fear, AT&T has announced its new Toggle service, which promises users the ability to keep their work and home lives apart on a single Android smartphone or tablet. The feature keeps business information secure and lets IT admins manage access to company resources, add or delete business apps and even wipe corporate info off of a device, in the event the employee leaves the company. The app is coming later this year and will be compatible with devices running Android 2.2 or higher. There's no word on pricing yet, but more info can be found in the press release after the break.

Android 4 leak shows Google Music 4.0, Google+ 2.0

A leak of an Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) build has unearthed two important remade apps. Google Music 4.0 has a much cleaner, streamlined interface more in line with the "holographic" look, Android Police saw. It would have more control over playback with thumbs-up and thumbs-down options along with much larger album art.
The build obtained so far doesn't have the offline caching option, however, leading to worries that Google might have lost rights to storing music offline. It's possible the feature was temporarily disabled for a given build or is waiting for certain other conditions before it comes online.

Google Docs Android app updated, looking beautiful on Honeycomb tablets

Google rolled out an Android application for its Google Docs web service and since then it has been actively working on not only changing the layout for the web version of Docs, but also its Android version. The latest update brings entirely new visuals to the app. It comes with a three-pane layout for Honeycomb tablets, lists of documents, collections and document previews.
The panel on the left displays a preview of the documents you’ve selected but it also gives a quick peek at the people who have access to that exact document. The app now looks very mature with nice little touches like autocomplete in forms. The new features come translated in more than 46 languages.

Google adds +1 feature to Shopper app for Android

Google continues to spread its +1 feature throughout the many apps that it offers to smartphone users, and the Shopper app for Android is the latest one to get it. Version 2.2 of Google Shopper lets shoppers +1 their favorite items so that everyone in the world can see what products they like the most. Users can also save products to a shopping list and research prospective items through Google Product search. There is also a new "pamper" category that provides salon and spa products. Finally, Google has fixed some bugs and added Google Offers notifications to the app. Google Shopper for Android version 2.2 is free and available in the Android Market now.

Nokia putting in Windows phone orders from Foxconn also

Last we heard Nokia would be using Compal as an ODM for the Nokia Searay.
Now Digitimes reports that Nokia has begun releasing its orders for Windows Phone 7.5-based smartphones to both Foxconn International Holdings and Compal Communications.
This is pretty good news for prospective Nokia customers, as Foxconn, who famously also ODMs the iPhone, has a reputation for high quality, unlike Compal who frankly does not.
While there is no way of knowing, given that the Searay was connected with Compal, it may be that the Nokia Sabre or Nokia Ace will be made by Foxcon instead, and represent a somewhat better device, irrespective of specs.

Gingerbread on 39% of Android devices

The newest Android platform version distribution chart was quietly updated while Apple was making its big speech today. It's showing a solid uptick in Gingerbread adoption throughout the Android ecosystem, but it also points out an annoying lack of information with the distribution chart.
According to the new numbers, Gingerbread is the big winner this month and is installed on 39% of Android devices in the wild. This isn't surprising as many devices have been getting the Gingerbread update recently. This marks a jump of 7.5% for Gingerbread over the last month. The losers, again unsurprisingly, were Froyo (2.2) which dropped from 51.2% to 45.3% and Eclair (2.0/2.1) which dropped from 13.3%...

Schmidt says Google won't screw up Android with Motorola acquisition

When Google acquired Motorola over the summer, the biggest concern was that the relationship balance would shift away from the other manufacturers. Google reassured us that Motorola wouldn’t automatically be first in line to work on Nexus handsets, and Google ex-CEO (now Chairman) Eric Schmidt recently reiterated the sentiment in an interview.
“The Android ecosystem is the No. 1 priority, and that we won’t do anything with Motorola, or anybody else by the way, that would screw up the dynamics of that industry. We need strong, hard competition among all the Android players. We won’t play favorites in the way people are concerned about.”
