Verizon Wireless and Motorola have released the so much needed Gingerbread update for the Droid X2. Before you “push the button,” make sure your most important data (i.e. contacts and calendars) is backed up and that your battery is fully charged. If that’s on place, you’re ready to go. Here’s the list of improvements the new firmware version brings:
Download Manager App – New App to manage all of your downloads from web browsing, email attachments and other apps.
Multi-Touch Key-Chording – New ability to enter numbers and symbols with keyboard shortcut combos, instead of having to change to the numeric keyboard mode.
Improved Word Selection and Copy Functionality – New capability to select ...

DROID Bionic for Verizon Coming September 2011?
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesMotorolaVerizon WirelessDROID BIONIC Etna
The DROID Bionic was a hot announcement during CES, and we really couldn’t wait to get our hands on one. However, we didn’t realize that the spec-packed Android handset would take several months to hit the market. We’re now hearing that the DROID Bionic isn’t going to arrive until early September – what gives?
Droid-Life says according to its sources:
We had been hearing 9/1 from a variety of sources over the last two weeks and should have stuck with that date. According to a report received today along with this photo, Motorola reps are telling VZW folks that they should expect the device in “early September.”
Over the past seven months since CES – has that much time passed already? – seve...

Vodafone axes EVO 3D before it even hits shelves
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesHTCEVO 3D
Keen-eyed observers, or those who registered to be notified about the EVO 3D, may have noticed a sudden dearth of glasses-free 3D phones coming to Vodafone. Apparently, the British carrier's execs are not the patient type. After several delays, Vodafone has decided to simply ax the handset rather than wait out HTC's supply issues, and has removed it from the company's "Coming Soon" page. Lets just hope its customers are a bit more understanding -- especially those who signed up to get first-crack at the now canceled phone.

HTC Wildfire S swaggers CDMA bands at FCC
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesHTCWildfire S
True to its namesake, the Wildfire S is preparing to blaze across our native prairies without abandon. After gaining the FCC's nod of acceptance for use on our 1900 / 850MHz HSPA bands -- followed by T-Mobile's official announcement -- the fun-sized candybar has received FCC approval for igniting our CDMA networks. A leaked roadmap suggests the Gingerbread treat is destined for US Cellular in October, but don't be surprised if the little guy appears at Cricket, MetroPCS, Virgin Mobile, and the like. Even Verizon could benefit from the Wildfire S, seeing that the Motorola Citrus is downright sour. Just promise not to name it the Droid Burn, okay?

Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesOperating SystemsT-MobileGoogleG2Android 2.3
T-Mobile G2 owners have been waiting months for this day to come, as the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for the smartphone has begun rolling out to customers.
Since the G2 runs a relatively bare version of Android, without any custom interfaces, the Android 2.3 update brings the standard upgrades and not much else. Users can expect to see improved copy and paste features, a better on-screen keyboard, a refreshed user interface, and improvements to Wi-Fi calling.

According to BGR the model number is SGH-I927 and it si coming to AT&T. If AT&T is launching the Galaxy S2 Slider also in August is unclear. For heavy texters the S2 Slider could be an interesting option. We do not have any specifications on this phone yet. T-Mobile HTC HD7 firmware update also being pushed out
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesHTCHD7
WPCentral reports, besides the Dell Venue Pro, T-Mobile is also pushing out a firmware update for the HTC HD7.
The update moves the firmware from 2250.09.12001.531 to 2250.21.30102.531 and the radio version from 5.51.09.11a_22.31.50.09U to 5.65.09.25a_22.45.50.21U.
The rather suspicious timing of all the firmware updates suggests Microsoft may be laying the ground work for the upcoming Mango update, now expected sooner rather than later.

Additionally, it’ll give them a big reason to now pick up any of Verizon’s 4G LTE device offerings to take advantage of the peppy data speeds that come with the next-generation network.
Starting on August 18th, there are a bunch of new markets across the country gaining 4G LTE connectivity – these include Bakersfield, Salinas, and Monterey, Ca.; Collins, Co.; Council Bluffs, Iowa; Worcester, Mass.; Omaha, Neb.; Ithaca, N.Y.; Columbus, Ohio; Altoona and Johnstown, Pa.; and Provo/Orem, Utah. It's the end of life for the HTC EVO 4G, Samsung Epic 4G and other Sprint models
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesSamsungHTCEVO 4GEpic 4G
A leaked screenshot of an internal Sprint document was obtained by SprintFeed, and shows which devices the carrier has branded as "EOL" (end of life, although end of the line is more appropriate) and when the handsets will be phased out. Some of the phones being removed from Sprint's lineup are household names such as the HTC EVO 4G, the nation's first 4G enabled device. Also being phased out is the carrier's second 4G handset, the Samsung Epic 4G. Both devices have been replaced with newer models like the HTC EVO 3D and the Samsung built Nexus S 4G, offering the latest high-end specs to Sprint customers with the former adding 3D functionality.
The white version of the HTC EVO 4G will be r...

Mozilla to make a new mobile OS based on Android code, webOS ideals
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell Phones
Mozilla, who we imagine isn’t too happy about losing market share to Google’s relatively new Chrome browser and the fact that Firefox Mobile isn’t taking off as well as they had hoped, has announced a new operating system dubbed “Boot to Gecko”, B2G for short. Now I know what you’re thinking, the market is already saturated thanks to iOS, Android, Windows Phone, Bada, and an untold number of feature phone operating systems, but Mozilla’s goal is quite honorable. They want to create an OS that, similar to HP/Palm webOS, will have applications built using web standards. B2G will have new APIs, which Mozilla hopes will someday become standards that anyone can use, that expose hardware functiona...

HTC Omega specs leaked: 3.8-inch screen, 1.5GHz CPU, 8 MP camera, Windows Phone Mango
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesHTCRadar
Another HTC’s Windows Phone device has been leaked. The new one, codenamed Omega, looks like a mass-market product that doesn’t rock a super-large 4.3-inch screen — rather it will reportedly sport a 3.8-inch WVGA display, making it easy to carry around in one’s pocket. That said, this could easily be the Mango-running successor of the HTC Mozart.
As for the rest of the specs, according to Gadgetian – the HTC Omega will also come with a 1.5GHz single-core Qualcomm processor, 8-megapixel camera with 720p HD video recording and LED flash, 16GB of built-in storage, 512MB of RAM, HSPA and Wi-Fi connectivity, GPS and a 3.5mm headset jack. We’ve no idea when HTC will officially launch the Omega, bu...

Verizon's Blackberry Bold 9930 unveiled early thanks to website blunder
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesRIM BlackBerryBold 9930
Oh boy, we don't envy the Verizon web admin who made this particular mis-click. If you go to VZW's sales page for the Blackberry 9650 and click on the "Explore Features" video, you get an unexpected treat: a walkthrough not of the 9650, but of the unreleased Bold 9930. The specs are familiar, like the 1.2GHz processor, 2.8-inch touchscreen and Blackberry 7 OS. But at least we now have it from the horse's mouth that the new Bold Touch is indeed coming to Verizon. We've stuck our own rip of the video after the break, as the original will likely disappear any second -- much like that poor web admin.

HTC Salsa ditches its Facebook button for Weibo in China
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesHTCSalsa
When is a "Facebook phone" not a Facebook phone? When it's in China. While this handset may look like an HTC Salsa at first glace, if you look a little closer you'll notice that the familiar little blue button has been replaced with one for Sina's Weibo social networking service. Lest you think this is just another KIRF, however, you can rest assured this is indeed the real deal, and a fairly big deal for HTC, considering that Weibo has around 150 million total users, and 50 million active monthly users. As for the phone itself, it's remained mostly unchanged otherwise, with it packing an 800MHz processor and a 3.4-inch 480 x 320 display, along with Android 2.3.3 with Sense 2.1 on top. Head ...

AT&T Google Nexus S on sale today, exclusive to Best Buy
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesAT&TGoogleNexus S
If you shelled out 600 clams for an unlocked Nexus S, buyer's remorse starts now: the subsidized AT&T version is out today. Available exclusively from Best Buy (and exclusively in black), the AT&T Nexus S will set you back only a paltry $99 with a two-year contract. Is the loss of color choice (and that whole "SIM-locked to AT&T" thing) worth the savings? We'll leave that up to you and your (Google) wallet.
