Motorola Ice Cream Sandwich update -- DROID 3 and DROID X2 left in the dark

Motorola Ice Cream Sandwich update -- DROID 3 and DROID X2 left in the dark

Posted on May 22, 2012 by MG1

Motorola recently updated its Android release timeline and revealed that certain devices will remain on Android 2.3 rather than receiving an upgrade to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. The handsets in question are both modern and more than capable of running the latest Android operating system, however the vendor claims the latest software won’t “improve” the devices, and that’s why updates will not be released. Both the DROID 3 and DROID X2 will remain on Android 2.3, despite the fact that both handsets run dual-core NVIDIA Tegra 2 processors and were released not even a year ago.

Verizon updating Motorola DROID X2, but not to Android 4.0

Posted on Mar 16, 2012 by MG3

Verizon Wireless has begun distributing an update for the Motorola DROID X2 smartphone. The update fixes a handful of bugs in the device's software and patches a security hole. Unfortunately it does not update the DROID X2 to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, and Motorola has not announced plans to do so in the future. Users should get a notification on their handsets when the update is ready to be downloaded and installed.

Well what do you know, Verizon and Motorola are preparing to launch an update for the Droid X2. We’ve no idea when that will exactly happen — as far as I know you may be getting it while reading this — but since the update already got a dedicated page at Verizon’s website (PDF file is here), I assume this will happen sooner rather than later.

Verizon Wireless and Motorola have released the so much needed Gingerbread update for the Droid X2. Before you “push the button,” make sure your most important data (i.e. contacts and calendars) is backed up and that your battery is fully charged. If that’s on place, you’re ready to go. Motorola Droid X2 facing chronic overheating problems

Motorola Droid X2 facing chronic overheating problems

Posted on Jul 04, 2011 by MG1

A new investigation has suggested that the Motorola Droid X2 may have an inherent overheating problem. Following reports from forums that it was getting too hot, Geek ran temperature tests against six separate units. One got so hot running Google Music at 110F that it shut down to protect the processor, while another doing 3G streaming also failed out; others behaved similarly.
The issue may be linked to software. Trying games like Galaxy of Fire 2 doesn't cause the problem even after an hour.
Motorola and Verizon claim they can't reproduce the issue on their own devices. Stories from Droid X2 owners encountering the problem, though, suggest the issue isn't consistent and may be a phone-by-p...
