There you are with your Android phone sporting a dual-core processor and you're wondering why sometimes the software isn't as snappy as you'd like it to be. According to testing conducted by Intel, not only is Android not ready for multiple-core processors, having more than one core could actually be harming Android performance.

Android developers have gotten a nice surprise today: an Android 4.0 x86 image has been released for the platform's software development kit. For the vast majority of people developing on computers that use x86 processors, the update will let the emulator run at native speeds and with fewer bugs, since it will be running native x86 code rather than code from the ARM platform. Apple spawned the media tablet market with the launch of the original iPad a couple of years back. Two iPad updates and countless Android tablets later, its viselike grip over the tablet market remains intact. HP CEO Meg Whitman recently told investors that the company will be shipping Windows 8 products by the end of the year, and now CNET is reporting some possible details about its tablet plans. Intel promotes Windows 8 ultrabooks, touchscreen tech at CES

Intel has previewed the capabilities of Windows 8-based ultrabooks, some of which take advantage of touchscreen technology and voice recognition. The chip maker suggests more than 75 ultrabook designs will arrive on the market this year, as the company's third-generation Core-series processors become available this spring.
Intel vice president Mooly Eden demonstrated a unique ultrabook prototype, known as the Nikiski, that features a transparent touchpad that extends most of the way across the space below the keyboard. The transparent surface enables users to close the notebook and still view content, such as news feeds and calendar entries, on a portion of the display.

Atom chip on Android smartphones expected at CES

LG Electronics and Samsung are expected to unveil Android smartphones next week that use Intel's latest Atom chip, dubbed Medfield, analysts said. The move, if it pans out, could portend a shift away from ARM-based chips, which are in 95 percent of smartphones.
The arrival of Atom-based smartphones at the International CES show in Las Vegas would join Google and Intel at the hip, said Jack Gold, an analyst at J. Gold Associates. With Google in the midst of acquiring Motorola Mobility for $12.5 billion, at least some Motorola smartphones could be soon running Atom chips, as well.

LG Intel Android phone to arrive at CES?

Rumours on Friday suggest that Intel's first venture into the smartphone business will take place at CES with the launch of an LG Android phone.
The Korean Times has it on good authority from sources at both companies that the eagerly-awaited phones boasting the new Medfield SoC will arrive at the Las Vegas tech show.
"LG Electronics will produce Intel's first Android smartphones that use Intel's own mobile platform. The device will be shown at the CES," according to an unnamed 'top-ranking' executive at LG.

Intel CEO, Paul Otellini, remains bullish about the prospect of Microsoft supporting the ARM architecture in the upcoming release of Windows 8.
Down the coast in Anaheim Microsoft is hosting the Build Conference as Intel runs its IDF2011 conference here in San Francisco. There it was talking up its support for the ARM micro-architecture in the next version of the Windows OS.
Otellini though is unconcerned with the prospect of added competition in the Windows space.

Putting its $7.68 billion acquisition to use, Intel has announced a new processor technology it's deemed "one of the biggest innovations" in the security industry's history. Called McAfee DeepSafe, the framework sits below your operating system and will allow McAfee to develop hardware-assisted security features.
Intel didn't provide many details, but the goal is to detect and thwart malware that can evade your OS-level antivirus. In one example, DeepSafe stopped a zero-day rootkit called Agony from infecting a system in real time. More details should arise soon as DeepSafe is expected to ship in products later this year.
