Message notification bug found on HTC One X; HTC says software fix is coming

Posted on May 11, 2012 by MG1

A small number of HTC One X units are suffering from a message notifications bug which forces the user to open up the messaging application in order to see if there are any new messages. The bug prevents the status bar from showing that a message has been received and also does not allow a badge to show up on the messaging icon on the home screen to alert the phone's user to a message.

AT&T's HTC One X gets rooted, catches up with the global gang

AT&T's HTC One X gets rooted, catches up with the global gang

Posted on May 10, 2012 by MG1

No sooner did the international variant of the One X reveal its source code, now the AT&T version has landed itself an unofficial root. Better still, the folks over at xda-developers have already squeezed the occasionally laborious process into a one-click install. For those not in the know, this doesn't mean an unlocked bootloader, which is still wrapped up in AT&T red tape. Root meddling types can hit up the source for the necessary files. Just, be careful -- that's some pricey polycarbonate and the Galaxy S III's still some weeks away.

Unfortunately, it isn't disclosed which carriers are going to welcome the One V in their line-ups, but we're being told that the device will become available through "a variety of partners". The HTC One V is a contemporary smartphone with great build quality and fine specs that won't break the bank.

HTC releases source code for One X, US variant not included

Posted on May 08, 2012 by MG1

Hackers rejoice … HTC has released the source code for the wildly popular One X. Yesterday, we wrote how MoDaCo noticed that the AT&T version of the HTC One X ships with a locked bootloader that isn’t unlocked by HTC’s bootloader unlock tool, a revelation that was later confirmed to The Verge by HTC. The Death Star strikes again!

Verizon makes Droid Incredible 4G LTE official

Verizon makes Droid Incredible 4G LTE official

Posted on May 08, 2012 by MG1

Verizon has made the Droid Incredible 4G LTE official, though this wasn't a surpsie, since the handset's product page was leaked last month. The 4-inch Super LCD qHD-equipped phone has Android 4.0 onboard with HTC's Sense 4.0 on top and it will connect to Verizon's 4G LTE network for some of the highest mobile broadband speeds available in the industry. The phone is powered by a dual-core, 1.2GHz Snapdragon S4 processor that's also used in the One S.
There is otherwise an eight-megapixel rear camera, front-facing camera for video chats and a microSD memory card slot onboard. The body also hides a 1,7000mAh battery. The handset has the ability to share its LTE connection with up to 10 other d...

AT&T now offering the HTC One X

AT&T now offering the HTC One X

Posted on May 07, 2012 by MG1

The AT&T variant of the HTC One X is now available from the carrier at a price of $199.99 with a signed two-year pact. The model is not endowed with the quad-core Tegra 3 like the international version of the phone, due to compatibility issues with LTE. But based on benchmark readings, you won't notice any drop off in performance with the dual-core 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 under the hood. The Adreno 225 GPU takes care of the graphics side of things.
AT&T has launched the HTC One X
The AT&T HTC One X is equipped with a 4.7 inch Super LCD 2 display offering 720p resolution and a high pixel density reading of 312 ppi. 1GB of RAM is on board and the phone has 16GB of native memory which ca...

MasterCard gives PayPass blessings to HTC One X, 16 other NFC phones

MasterCard gives PayPass blessings to HTC One X, 16 other NFC phones

Posted on May 04, 2012 by MG1

MasterCard is widening the universe of phones that officially support PayPass in a big way, with a new MasterCard PayPass Ready program certifying that devices with NFC will play nicely with its mobile payment system. A total of 17 phones are part of the first wave getting the official A-OK. Some of these are known quantities already using PayPass, like the LG Viper 4G LTE and the Samsung Galaxy Nexus HSPA+, but others are new to the PayPass ways. Among the picks are the HTC One X, Intel's smartphone reference device and the Nokia Lumia 610 NFC. A raft of BlackBerrys and lower-end Samsung Galaxy phones are likewise in the fray. While only a handful of these might ever work with Google Wallet...

HTC Sensation 4G price drops to zero on T-Mobile

HTC Sensation 4G price drops to zero on T-Mobile

Posted on May 03, 2012 by MG1

HTC’s last year flagship, the Sensation 4G, has just dropped in price to the sweet zero on T-Mobile, and it seems like now is the best time to get a high-end handset that can still take a beating in today’s smartphone market for very little. TMo is offering the Sensation 4G for free on a limited time offer that kicked off this week.
And here’s what you get for your zero dollars and a two-year contract tie: a 1.2GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor, a 4.3-inch qHD display, a capable 8-megapixel camera and connection to T-Mobile’s 4G HSPA+ network.

HTC touts the One X battery life

HTC touts the One X battery life

Posted on May 03, 2012 by MG1

HTC outed a blog post in which it detailed the thousand of man hours that went into the battery life performance of its flagship HTC One X handset, partly to alleviate the concerns about it having a non-removable battery, we'd wager to guess.
They compared with last year's flagship HTC Sensation and the results are pretty astounding - 147% longer talk time, 103% more music playback, 39% more video playback, and 23% more web browsing time, all from a phone with a beautiful 4.7" HD screen.
Not bad, but HTC also has some independent reviewers' charts to back its claims up, like those from the Anandtech review below.

HTC EVO 4G LTE coming to Sprint on May 18th?

Posted on Apr 30, 2012 by MG1

Last week, we told you that Sprint will start taking pre-orders for the HTC EVO 4G LTE on May 7th. So far, so good. But when can we expect the next phone in the EVO series to actually be released? Android Authority says it has the answer as a pair of sources have tipped them to expect a May 18th launch of the handset.
And while it doesn't exactly confirm the May 18th date, leaked photos obtained by GoodandEVO.com from a source described as reliable show promotional materials for the HTC EVO 4G LTE. These materials are supposedly being delivered to Sprint locations on May 14th which would dovetail with the rumored May 18th launch date. The phone will sell for $199.99 with a signed two year c...

HTC and Facebook working on new Android smartphone for later this year, says DigiTimes

HTC and Facebook working on new Android smartphone for later this year, says DigiTimes

Posted on Apr 26, 2012 by MG3

HTC and Facebook, two companies already familiar with one another from their partnership on the ChaCha and Salsa handsets, are reportedly in the midst of jointly developing a new Android smartphone. DigiTimes cites insider sources in reporting that a specially customized Facebook-centric handset is set to launch in the latter half of this year. It's said to feature "a platform exclusive to Facebook," which will facilitate the integration of the social network's full feature set into the phone. Yes, that's all very general at this point, but we're inclined to believe there's some truth to this, following the moderately successful run of the ChaCha / ChaChaCha / Status device, which was handic...
