LG Optimus Hub (aka Univa / Optimus Two) earns its stripes at the FCC

Posted on Sep 26, 2011 by MG1

Okay, we'll totally admit that we've got something of a phone crush on LG's successor to the Optimus One lineup. Sure, it hasn't debuted in the States, and its specs already look a bit tired, but there's tons of goodwill attached to this family of devices. Should LG properly execute, the handset promises to be an iterative improvement for all smartphone buyers that need to save some coin. Now this sexy creation is making its way though the FCC, and while it's difficult to tell whether this is an international model or is bound for our domestic shores, it's easy to realize that we're one step closer to its much anticipated release. After a bit of digging, we can tell you the phone supports th...

LG Optimus S finally receives its long awaited Android 2.3 Gingerbread update

Posted on Sep 15, 2011 by MG1

Fast forward to almost a year later, the handset is finally moving up to the next version of Android.
Sprint announced the beloved news that many handset owners have been waiting for, which is none other than the fact that the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for the handset is being rolled out. However, they’re releasing it in droves over the course of the next 10 days – so don’t be alarmed if you don’t see that notification today.
As always, the new software update fea...

LG Marquee steps out in leaked press shot, coming this October? (updated: it's official)

Posted on Sep 15, 2011 by MG1

It looks like the LG Marquee's gearing up for its coming out party. We first caught wind of the Optimus Black clone when it surfaced in blurrycam form at a Radio Shack briefing, running what appeared to be vanilla Android, and branded for the Now Network. Well, thanks to a leaked press shot over on PocketNow, we can clearly see that the device is, indeed, sporting a lightly-skinned version of the pure Gingerbread experience, with Sprint ID replacing the browser in the phone's launcher. Cosmetically, you'll also notice the new grey-colored chassis has a striped band sweeping down the battery cover, although the camera placement remains similar to its European cousin. Aside from that, the only...

LG Marquee caught on candid camera, is this Sprint's Optimus Black?

LG Marquee caught on candid camera, is this Sprint's Optimus Black?

Posted on Sep 12, 2011 by MG1

Is this a case of smartphone identity crisis, or just a repurposed chassis? Whatever the case may be, LG's got a Marquee handset ready to shore up Sprint's future line-up. The leaked shot comes courtesy of a now private video spotted by Android Central, and was taken at a Dallas-based Radio Shack Business Summit. It's evident from the one Mr. Blurrycam screen cap on display that the phone's currently running a vanilla build of Gingerbread, and sports a minimalistic design that's reminiscent of the Optimus Black. We can't be certain the two are indeed twins, however that leaked roadmap did indicate a stateside October bow for the Optimus Black -- this could simply be a rebrand for the Now Net...

LG is reportedly planning to slash the workforce in its mobile phone division by 30 per cent after consistently poor results in the mobile space.

Reuters is reporting that the Korean giant is reacting by slashing the workforce to cut costs, but LG has come out and stated such a decision hasn't been reached as yet:

"We are always looking at opportunities to improve the performance of our mobile business but no decision has been made as to any job reductions," said an LG spokesperson.

Feel your eyes crossing and a headache setting in just by thinking about playing this way? No worries, they're all still playable in 2D as well. Dramatically separating itself from the pack, the thunderous HTC ThunderBolt was recently reduced in priced to $0.01 on-contract thanks to Amazon, but it didn’t take long for its other siblings to make the drop as well.

Once again, Amazon is making it more affordable to own a Verizon 4G LTE smartphone now that they’ve lowered the price of the LG Revolution and Samsung Droid Charge to the easy to swallow price of a penny for new customers. Naturally, you’ll be required to sign off on a 2-year contract with the purchase – still, we’re sure that won’t be a problem for you.

You guessed it right – LG was to be the first Android phone maker, but backtracked on the deal, forcing Google to work with HTC, according to a report by the WSJ.
