Motorola has started rolling out Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for its Milestone 2 smartphone in Europe. That, however, doesn’t mean you can get it right away; the new software will be released in stages so even if you can’t download it right now, check back again within few days.
The American handset maker turned to Facebook to spread the good news and we really applaud them for supporting their existing customers. Sure enough, they’re kinda late – but better late than never.

LG's list of Android 4.0 phones is about to get a little longer, now that the manufacturer has confirmed the arrival of Ice Cream Sandwich for even more handsets. LG revealed the news today in a Facebook post, specifying that the Optimus Black, Optimus 3D and Optimus LTE will all receive updates to Google's latest OS, along with the previously announced Optimus 2X. The company also said that it's "continuing to evaluate the ICS OS to determine whether it is compatible with the functionality, features and performance of other LG smartphones," adding that it hopes to bring the update to as many devices as possible. Verizon's DROID Charge getting Gingerbread update on November 29

Samsung has released a new firmware update for its Galaxy S II superphone. The new software makes your thin smartphone run Android 2.3.6, adding new features and fixing some of the known bugs. For instance, the software fixes lockscreen hang bug, introduces some changes on the Camera Interface, increases HSPA connectivity speed (more than 21Mbps?), while making the boot-up faster. Additionally, there are a number of security and performance improvements under the hood.

Verizon Wireless has revealed that the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for the Samsung DROID Charge smartphone will be released in the near future, or "soon" as the carrier puts it. The update will add security fixes and performance enhancements along with all of the other goodies that come with Android 2.3. Verizon typically rolls these updates out slowly, so users will have to sit back and wait for the notification on their phones alerting them that the update is ready to download and install.

Even though Ice Cream Sandwich is popping up everywhere since its source code was released to the public, we've got to give a shout out now that its been squeezed onto the original Google phone, HTC's G1. The G1 was last seen sporting an unofficial Honeycomb port, and now jcarrz1 from XDA-Developers is showing off his device running Android 4.0 in this video. So far the touchscreen is (slowly) working, along with all apps and "ICS goodies", though WiFi, Bluetooth and rotation are still out. Google responds to Galaxy Nexus volume bug: 'we have a fix!'

The Galaxy Nexus volume bug has been squashed in Google's labs. The Android software maker has just announced it has a fix for the problem plaguing UK owners of the new Nexus, which will be rolled out "as soon as possible." Here's Google's statement in full:
"We are aware of the volume issue and have developed a fix. We will update devices as soon as possible."
It was starting to look like the pseudo-random volume fluctuation on the device was a hardware issue, one that would potentially require the replacement of affected handsets, but Google's promise of an update would seem to indicate that's not the case. Let's hope the remedy is as simple as an over-the-air software update.

For those of you pining away for the latest Nexus phone to arrive on Verizon, it’s been a roller-coaster of rumors the last few days. Perhaps the most disheartening was when Google updated its product pages and eliminated the 32 GB model of the Verizon Galaxy Nexus, leaving only a 16 GB version.
Much panic ensued on enthusiast sites – many consumers feel that the lack of removable storage isn’t a big deal as long as a generous amount of internal storage is provided. After all, iPhone owners have been making this tradeoff for years. But the specter of only having 16 GB of internal storage had many people questioning whether this would be enough.
Worry no more, as Google has once again updated...

Google confirms no Flash in ICS until Adobe updates it

It shouldn't be much of a surprise, because apps often have to be updated to support the newest version of Android before they become available, but Google has confirmed that Flash is not currently supported in ICS.
Those of you in Europe may have already noticed, and theoretically we'll find out soon enough in the States, but Adobe Flash player is not currently supported in Ice Cream Sandwich, and is not available in the Android Market. Even worse, there is no way right now to load up the old version of Flash.

Four zillion new Galaxy Nexus promo videos not enough to sate your appetite for superphones? We hear ya. Google's specifications portal just went live for Verizon's looming LTE version of the world's first Ice Cream Sandwich smartphone, and as expected, it's a wee bit bigger than the HSPA+ version. We heard back in Hong Kong that the LTE model would be slightly beefier -- presumably to house a larger battery to counter that energy-sucking LTE module -- and it seems that said scenario is indeed proving true. The HSPA+ build checks in at 135.5mm (h) x 67.94mm (w) x 8.94mm (d) thick, while the LTE model measures 135.5mm (h) x 67.94mm (w) x 9.47mm (d). That's right around half a millimeter thick...

The Samsung Galaxy S2 will be getting Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, the company’s UK arm has confirmed this week via Twitter.
While it should come as no surprise – even six months on, the Samsung Galaxy S2 is still just about the most powerful phone on the market, and to ignore it would be a shock – it is reassuring to see Samsung publicly committing to it.
Ice Cream Sandwich, which launches on the Galaxy Nexus today, includes many new features, including face recognition unlock, improved voice commands and dictations, an overhauled UI and better multi-taking, with screenshots of each running app.

Welcome to the club T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4G users! You are finally able to use Gingerbread and all of the goodies that brings. We know that Ice Cream Sandwich is the new hotness, but it's always nice to get an update.
The update will not only bring your Galaxy S 4G up to Gingerbread, Android 2.3.6 to be exact. The update also brings a mysterious "Google Security Patch", whatever that means, as well as camera enhancements and WiFi enhancements.
The bad news is that this update will not be available OTA, so you'll have to dig up your USB cable, hook up your phone to your computer and use the Samsung Kies Mini software to update your phone.

Remember that early Gingerbread ROM for the LG Optimus 3D? Sure, it was in a state too crude to be used on a daily basis, but it was good for one thing, namely spoiling the surprise by revealing what goodies the upcoming update is about to bring.

HTC and Verizon Wireless have apparently restarted the deployment of the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for the original DROID Incredible. Initially released back in September, the companies pulled the update shortly after it went out for undisclosed reasons. Here we are over two months later and users are reporting left and right that the upgrade is once again available to them. Users should get a notification on their devices when the update is ready to be downloaded and installed, or they can manually check through the Settings app on the phone itself.
