Samsung Galaxy S II now shipping for $100 in America... on Alaska's GCI

Posted on Sep 12, 2011 by MG1

Leave it the regional folks to steal the thunder of the Big Four. While we were all led to think that Sprint's Epic 4G Touch would be the first subsidized Galaxy S II to officially land in the US of A, it looks as if Alaska's GCI has beat 'em all to the punch -- and in more areas than one. A tipster residing in The Last Frontier just picked one up today, and best of all, it's running a solid Benjamin less than it will on those other operators. Oh, and it's compatible with the company's "4G" (read: HSPA+) network. Unadulterated wilderness? Yep. Northern Lights? Definitely. Early / cheap access to the year's hottest Android smartphone? Evidently. So, who's up for a little northern exposure?

Many of you T-Mobile fans are anxiously awaiting the Galaxy S II and we’re happy to tell you that a leaked roadmap says it should launch at the end of October.
TMoNews got its hands on the leaked schedule for the next few months and it shows that the Android superphone from Samsung should be landing in late October but we still don’t have a specific release date. We know the Sprint version of the Galaxy S II will be coming first in September, so let’s hope it doesn’t lag too long.
Confirming a previous rumor, the leaked roadmap says late October should also be the release date of the HTC Ruby, or what could be called the “Amaze 4G.” This Android beast is expected to have a 4.3-inch screen an...

All three Samsung Galaxy S II variants for the US pose together in a leaked shot

With Hurricane Irene bent on making its way towards the Big Apple, where Samsung expects to hold a media event on Monday to disrobe the veil from its upcoming line of Galaxy S II smartphones, we’re getting our first look at them all.

In the leaked image below, we can plainly see the specific Samsung Galaxy S II variants coming to AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile – with Verizon obviously out of the mix. Looking at them, they don’t appear to drastically differ in design from the international version that’s been available for some time – albeit, they shed the physical home button found with the original. For the most part, the three handsets appear to have the same looking design on the surface.

Verizon passes on GALAXY S II, but

Verizon passes on GALAXY S II, but "similar" Samsung phone launching soon

Posted on Aug 26, 2011 by MG15

Verizon Wireless is passing on the Galaxy S II smartphone according to a report in The Wall Street Journal on Thursday. BGR has confirmed with multiple trusted sources that this is accurate — Samsung will not unveil a Verizon-branded GALAXY S II smartphone next week at its New York City launch event on August 29th. Instead, Samsung will take the wraps off of GALAXY S II handsets that will soon launch on T-Mobile, Sprint and AT&T. We’re told two of those carriers will maintain the “GALAXY S II” branding but one may offer a unique name for the handset. BGR has also confirmed, however, that Verizon Wireless will soon launch a Samsung device with very similar specifications — as in, nearly ident...

U.S. version of Samsung Galaxy S II replaces iPhone-like home button with Android one

U.S. version of Samsung Galaxy S II replaces iPhone-like home button with Android one

Posted on Aug 25, 2011 by MG15

Has Samsung provided evidence in favor of Apple's claim that the Korean company has copied designs from the Cupertino based firm's products? Yesterday we reported that Samsung had released a video teaser for the U.S. version of the Samsung Galaxy S II and within that video may lie proof that Apple could have a strong case.

If you look closely at the video, the Samsung Galaxy S II being used in most of the scenes has an iPhone-style home button below the screen. That is the version that we have seen in most pictures of the handset that has been called the best Android phone ever made. But at the end of the video, there is a change. The picture of the Samsung Galaxy S II used has typical Andr...

A judge in The Hague just issued a ruling in Apple's patent infringement case against Samsung, prohibiting "the marketing of Samsung smartphones Galaxy S, S II and Ace for violation of Apple Inc. EP 2,058,868." In an official press release, the court explains that The Hague judge ruled to "ban trading of Samsung smartphones Galaxy S, S II and Ace," adding that Samsung also violated other Apple patents with its Galaxy Tab 10.1 and 10.1v, though it's not clear whether or not sales of those devices will be banned as well.

Samsung Galaxy S II users in Vietnam claim screen issues in locally produced units, Samsung debunks it

Samsung Galaxy S II users in Vietnam claim screen issues in locally produced units, Samsung debunks it

Posted on Aug 23, 2011 by MG15

A number of Samsung Galaxy S II owners have arranged a coffee shop meeting in Hanoi to compare the displays of their phones, some of which have been produced in Samsung's factory in Vietnam, and found out they differ from the imports. Another issue had been the pink spot in the middle of the screen, resulting from trying to take pictures under low light conditions against bright backgrounds.

Samsung is operating one of its most modern factories in the country, which was a $1 billion investment, and it replied to the initial screen complaints that only 10% of the production goes to Vietnam, the rest is sold all around the world, and complies with the most stringent quality requirements of th...

Samsung Releases White Galaxy S II

Posted on Aug 17, 2011 by MG3

Samsung has today issued a press release which officially unveils the white version of their popular Galaxy S II. This announcement has been widely expected for awhile already, thus it is not a big surprise. The major specs will be the same as the black version's.
Evidently, the white version will launch in Korea today but global availability is unknown at the moment. Phonesreview.co.uk is claiming September 1st availability in the UK, so global launch should take place within a month or so.

Galaxy S2 Release is on August 29, Confirmed.

Galaxy S2 Release is on August 29, Confirmed.

Posted on Aug 15, 2011 by MG3

Earier today we reported that the Galaxy S2 is not launching today as was rumored. Just now Samsung Mobile sent us an invite to a media event on August 29 in New York. The invite is not revealing much, but it has a "II" on it. The II clearly hints to the Samsung Galaxy S2 and since the invite is from Samsung Mobile it is almost sure that the 29 marks the launch of the Galaxy S2 in the US. Now I just saw that the image of the invite flyer has actually "Galaxy_S_II" in the file name. So there is no doubt that the Galaxy S2 will be released on August 29.

Galaxy S2 not coming to Verizon Today

Galaxy S2 not coming to Verizon Today

Posted on Aug 12, 2011 by MG3

End of July we carried a rumor saying that Verizon will launch the SamsungS2 today, August 12. August 12 is still young, but I do not expect Verizon to announce anything today about the S2. If the sale of the highly anticipated Galaxy S2 would to be started today, Verizon would have announced that earlier this week.
