Want the Samsung Galaxy S II so badly that you can't wait for it to be offered by your carrier? Well, if you are an AT&T or T-Mobile customer and don't mind spending the money, an unlocked version of the phone offered right now by Newegg will let you use the pipelines belonging to the two GSM mobile operators (although AT&T users will have 3G only). The unit, available from the retailer for $649.99, has quad-band GSM (850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900) and quad-band UMTS (850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100) connectivity. Samsung Galaxy S II in white looks legit; Coming in late August?

Posted on Aug 01, 2011 by MG1

We’re not sure whether we should believe the image above is legit or not. We want to believe and think it makes perfect sense for Samsung to offer the white version of its super-popular Android smartphone to reach even more users. However, aside from that image, we also have another one that looks a bit different. Both of them come from phone retailers, Digitec and Mobilefun, and we’re not sure which one’s official and which one is a Photoshop mockup.
Anyway, we’re hearing the white Samsung Galaxy S II will be released at some point in late August. I’m sure it will sell like crazy with those who haven’t grabbed the original unit because it’s “too black,” going for this one. That’s presuming ...

Posted on Jul 28, 2011 by MG1

This Sprint-bound Galaxy S II already posed for one candid and now it also appears to have made a tour of the FCC's testing facilities. Packing CDMA and WiMAX radios, along with a design that matches the leak and and an appropriate model number (SPH-D710), this definitely appears to be the Within we were expecting. So far the only additional clue teased from the FCC documents comes from Wireless Goodness which points out it's 5mm taller and 3mm wider than Euro-spec Galaxy S IIs, but feel free to click the source link and look for yourself.

Samsung Galaxy S II coming next month

While we were just wondering what’s the holdup with the Samsung Galaxy S II in the United States, a Samsung executive said that we could be seeing this superphone as early as next month.
“We expect to release the Galaxy S2 in the U.S. market sometime in August,” said Shin Jong-kyun, president of Samsung’s mobile business and digital imaging, according to Yonhap.
The Samsung Galaxy S II is expected to follow its predecessor by coming to all four major carriers and we’ve even seen the brand names leak. Samsung might be taking a bit more time with these to add some more features or to ensure that it can use its own dual-core chip exclusively.

Microsoft teases a WP7 version of the Samsung Galaxy S II, plus new handsets from Fujitsu, ZTE and Acer

Microsoft teases a WP7 version of the Samsung Galaxy S II, plus new handsets from Fujitsu, ZTE and Acer

Posted on Jul 13, 2011 by MG1

Microsoft's WPC 2011 conference which we reported from yesterday is in full swing, and special time was dedicated to Windows Phone, with Redmond showing off not one or two, but four new WP handsets. While it didn't specify many details about the phones themselves, Microsoft reiterated that we will have three new manufacturers jumping on the bandwagon - Acer, Fujitsu and ZTE.
But there were actually four handsets on stage, with the fourth being none other but the Windows Phone version of the Samsung Galaxy S II, one of the best handsets money can currently buy. Samsung's phone, as well as all others that were present during the keynote, seemed to have the good ol' front-facing camera, which i...

Another Galaxy S II passes through the FCC, possibly rockin' a Tegra 2

Another Galaxy S II passes through the FCC, possibly rockin' a Tegra 2

Posted on Jul 06, 2011 by MG1

What we have here appears to be some variation of the Samsung Galaxy S II, with support for 850MHz and 1900MHz GSM frequencies, making its way through the FCC. Now, we know what you're thinking, "didn't we already see an AT&T ready S II?" Yep, but this one sports a different model number -- GT-I9103, and you know where we've seen that before? Those mysterious Tegra 2-equipped Galaxy S II benchmarks. The rumblings of Sammy's flagship handset coming in two versions, one rocking NVIDIA's mobile chip, aren't without precedent -- Exynos is still fairly young silicon and this could be a way to boost supplies (as we put it, in the most politically correct terms possible) "outside its critical marke...
