While we're no champions at "pin the tail on the donkey" we're pretty sure we're close to the mark with this one. An FCC report for a new Samsung phone bearing an SGH-I747 model number? Sporting HSPA+ and LTE bands that play nice with AT&T, Rogers, Telus and Bell? While it's not explicit, if this doesn't sound like the GSIII coming to town, we don't know what does. After all, it's not like we didn't know it was on its way.

Samsung's GSM-only dual-SIM Galaxy Ace Duos kicks off its world tour in Russia next month

While Samsung's Galaxy Ace Duos has already burst onto the scene in India pulling double duty on GSM and CDMA networks, the company today announced its dual-SIM GSM-only cousin will begin shipping in June in Russia, before rolling out to Europe and other regions later. Running Android 2.3 on an 832MHz processor and flashing a 3.5-inch HVGA screen, that dual-SIM capability is the highlight, with Samsung's "Dual SIM always on" feature that forwards calls from the phone number on SIM 2, even if the user is on a call through SIM 1. Bill Bellamy and all others in need of such features can check the press release after the break for a few more details, or the gallery below to get a look from a few...

‘Phablets’ are here to stay

BGR called for the death of the “phablet” this past February when we reviewed Samsung’s mammoth Galaxy Note, but the market has spoken loud and clear. End-user sales of Samsung’s first true smartphone-tablet hybrid topped 5 million units within about five months, placing Samsung well on its way to achieving the company’s goal of selling 10 million units in 2012. According to a new report from market research firm ABI, Samsung’s Galaxy Note is just the beginning.

Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 redesigned; adds quad-core CPU, S-Pen slot

Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 redesigned; adds quad-core CPU, S-Pen slot

Posted on May 24, 2012 by MG3

Filed in: Cell PhonesSamsung

As previously reported, after a less than stellar unveiling at Mobile World Congress in February, Samsung delayed the launch of its Galaxy Note 10.1 in order to make revisions. The original Galaxy Note 10.1 featured a 10.1-inch 1280 x 800-pixel display, a dual-core Exynos processor clocked at 1.4GHz, 1GB of RAM and a 3-megapixel rear camera. The slate utilized Samsung’s S-Pen stylus, however unlike its “phablet” counterpart, the device lacked a slot to store the nifty stylus. Samsung has addressed the issue in the redesigned version of its upcoming tablet, and the company added a new quad-core Exynos processor as well, according to Tablet Community. Unfortunately, the South Korea vendor has ...

Samsung Galaxy S III tops UK pre-order records, shows that British love their quad-core

Samsung Galaxy S III tops UK pre-order records, shows that British love their quad-core

Posted on May 24, 2012 by MG3

The British clearly didn't waste any time once pre-orders opened up for the Galaxy S III, which just broke through pre-order records for at least one carrier and one retailer in the country. Carphone Warehouse's chief commercial officer Graham Stapleton says that the quad-core, 4.8-inch flagship is the quickest-moving pre-order of the year "so far," while Vodafone UK adds that the new Galaxy is its most pre-ordered Android device to date. Without hard numbers, though, it's difficult not to couch the successes in relative terms: both are using conditional language that makes clear neither record is absolute and that they might be eclipsed by companies with a knack for building early demand. Samsung spills Galaxy Note's ICS guts, releases kernel source code to devs

Back when it was unveiled at IFA 2011, Sammy's famed phablet was more of an attractive oddity than sure hit. Skip to now, and that 5.3-incher's not only taken the European continent by storm, it's also made inroads onto these American shores via AT&T. In keeping with the open source embrace begun last October, the OEM's once again offering up the device's kernel code, this time for the skinned ICS OS unlocked versions currently run. Devs and the amateur hackers that love them should make haste and hit up the source below to get cracking on this latest software nut.

Apple, Samsung: Patent settlement talks fail

After two days of settlement talks between the chief executives of Samsung and Apple, the two companies failed to reach an agreement that would end their on-going legal battles over mobile patents, The Korea Times reported on Wednesday. According to a Samsung official, the two technology giants could find no clear agreement during the talks. Both companies remained firm with their arguments, with Samsung demanding Apple pay royalties for using its wireless transmission technology and Apple insisting that Samsung copied its designs. Despite both firms’ stated desire to avoid legal proceedings, the two companies will seemingly head to trial in July.

Sony and Samsung Enforce Minimum Pricing Policy

Sony and Samsung Enforce Minimum Pricing Policy

Posted on May 24, 2012 by MG3

Filed in: TVsSonySamsung

It looks like the days of retail stores competing for low prices are coming to an end. Today, both Sony and Samsung announced that they will be enforcing minimum pricing for all their HDTVs. This means that the TV will retail for the same exact price, no matter what retailer you purchase it from. This not only eliminates competition between the retailers, but also eliminates the resulting lower retail prices. Sony has already stated that companies who don’t adhere to the minimum pricing policy will have their financing cut off. Given the heavy losses that were reported both companies last year, many wonder if this move is a good idea or not. There is also the possibility that this policy cou...
