Ice Cream Sandwich update for original Transformer coming 'mid-February,' says ASUS

Ice Cream Sandwich update for original Transformer coming 'mid-February,' says ASUS

Posted on Jan 21, 2012 by DaddyChicken

Last we heard, the Ice Cream Sandwich update making its way to the O.G. Transformer was still "in the process of being approved" by the G-men. Although we've heard rumors that the holo-coated upgrade would come in February, nothing's been confirmed until now. ASUS replied to a life long fan's Facebook post, revealing that the update should arrive "mid-February." We know hearing the news that you'll have to keep waiting might not stop you from rolling on the floor and throwing a temper tantrum, but hey, you could not be getting one at all.

ASUS begins to roll out GPS fix for Transformer Prime tablet

ASUS begins to roll out GPS fix for Transformer Prime tablet

Posted on Jan 20, 2012 by MG1

ASUS released an over-the-air update for the Eee Pad Transformer Prime on Thursday. The update will boost the GPS version to 6.9.13 and improve the tablet’s faulty signal according to user accounts. Since its release, the Prime has been plagued with numerous bugs that recently forced the company to issue refunds and extended warranties to dissatisfied customers in the United Kingdom. Numerous users at XDA-Developers have reported improved GPS connectivity without the need to connect to Wi-Fi, however there are a few individuals who are still unable to lock onto a signal. ASUS has not yet released an official change log for the update.

Asus Transformer Prime update improves GPS performance?

Asus Transformer Prime update improves GPS performance?

Posted on Jan 19, 2012 by MG3

The latest twist in the Asus Transformer Prime saga is here, with an over-the-air firmware update that supposedly goes some way to improving the tablet's much-maligned GPS performance by updating the driver — if posters on xda-developers are to be believed. We'll have to get our own confirmation of this, as a teardown of the Prime and subsequent announcement of a redesigned model seemed to indicate that the GPS issues were inherent to the hardware design. One thing the update definitely does seem to do is break root access for anyone who's that way inclined, though it looks like it's simple enough to get it back. In any case, we'd exercise caution, and will let you know our own impressions o...

ASUS Transformer Prime TF700 isn't shipping until the summer

ASUS Transformer Prime TF700 isn't shipping until the summer

Posted on Jan 18, 2012 by MG3

Late last year ASUS announced the Transformer Prime, the first Android tablet to use NVIDIA’s new quad core Tegra 3 chip. They said it would ship before Christmas, and it did … but in numbers so small that you can’t really say that it sold in any significant volume. What’s holding things up? Some folks are blaming NVIDIA, but we honestly think that ASUS just wants to wait until they can ship their customers the Transformer Prime with Android Ice Cream Sandwich onboard instead of Honeycomb. The few people who were lucky enough to get the Prime before everyone else soon discovered that their WiFi performance was flaky and that they couldn’t get a GPS signal no matter how hard they tried. To ma...

The Asus Transformer Prime is probably the hottest Android tablet out there right now, but after issues with it just kept popping up first with Wi-Fi reception and then GPS, many customers were disappointed with their purchase. Asus has swiftly addressed those issues with bug fixes and updates, but some users just want their money back and if you’re among those lucky few who have gotten their device in the UK you are eligible for a refund once you return your tablet.

Some Transformer Prime users can't upgrade to Android 4.0

Some Transformer Prime users can't upgrade to Android 4.0

Posted on Jan 17, 2012 by MG15

Late last month, after several delays, ASUS began shipping its much anticipated Transformer Prime tablet, but with Android 3.2 instead of Android 4.0. The company promised that it would begin offering an over-the-air (OTA) update to early adopters on January 12. ASUS met that deadline, but xda developers reports that owners are experiencing problems with updating their slates. The problem arises when the OTA can't recognize the slate's serial number and won't update the device. ASUS is aware of the problem. Gary Key, a company representative, has suggested that users try doing a factory reset. If that doesn't work, he suggests waiting about 15 minutes and trying again. Key has acknowledged t...

Android 4.0 update hits Asus Transformer Prime

Posted on Jan 11, 2012 by MG15

Asus has let the Android 4.0 update for the Asus Transformer Prime loose a couple of days early. The Ice Cream Sandwich software wasn't meant to hit the slate until 12 January, but Asus decided to bring it forward, announcing the new availability at its CES 2012 press conference. Asus was pretty keen to ram home the fact that this makes the Asus Transformer Prime the World's first Ice Cream Sandwich tablet, so we wouldn't be surprised if it transpired that a competitor has the software ready to go too.

Asus Padfone to launch at Mobile World Congress 2012

Asus Padfone to launch at Mobile World Congress 2012

Posted on Jan 11, 2012 by MG15

What's this? Mention of a tradeshow that isn't CES 2012 in the headline of a news story in early January? You read correctly, as the Asus PadFone is now set to be unveiled in February. As you know, February is the reserve of Mobile World Congress 2012 – although Asus did have to take to CES 2012 to confirm the announcement, as well as showing off the PadFone on its Vegas stand. Nothing much else new to report really; the 4.3-inch PadFone is still set to come with Ice Cream Sandwich and we still don't know for sure whether or not it'll come with the Nvidia Tegra 3 quad-core processor.

SUS displayed its latest sound card, the Republic of Gamers (ROG) Phoebus. This card is designed for multichannel gaming audio. While it might not pack any fancy DSP that doesn't already exist, its AMP circuitry is so designed to give the best positional audio that could come handy with competitive online gaming. With this card, ASUS also brought to the fore C-Media's latest audio chipset, the CMI 8788DH Oxygen Express, which packs native PCI Express support. All PCI Express sound cards launched by ASUS so far feature OxygenHD and ASUS-rebadged AV-100 chipsets, that use legacy PCI, and hence depend on PCIe-to-PCI bridge chips by PLX to function on PCI Express.

NVIDIA embraces Ice Cream Sandwich with the Transformer Prime

Posted on Jan 11, 2012 by MG1

In a fully green-lit environment on the first full day of CES 2012, NVIDIA’s Jen-Hsng Huang outlined their 2012 focus, and all was quad-core. The event began with Huang speaking about how they’d be moving through Tablets, a secret additional feature of Tegra 3, and vehicle integration. As tablets are, as evidence shows, the quickest selling device category in mobile history, so too will NVIDIA continue to concentrate on the category for their hero devices.
For the tablets, Huang noted that a big moment in Android was the moment it was revealed that Gingerbread and Honeycomb were combined in Ice Cream Sandwich. All the devices now, he reminds us, are in one single platform. Content developers...
