Asus, HTC Unlikely to Join Google's Chromebook Party

Posted on Jun 01, 2012 by MG3

Google this week announced a second generation Chromebook model from Samsung, the Series 5 550, which dispenses with the previous generation Chromebook's Atom N570 processor and replaces it with a dual-core Celeron B867 chip sporting Sandy Bridge DNA. That's well and good if you're into Chromebooks, except that companies like Asus and HTC aren't tripping over themselves trying to launch second generation Chromebook models of their own.

ASUS bringing Zenbook Prime UX21A, UX31A, UX32A and UX32VD to the US, prices start at $799

Posted on May 23, 2012 by MG2

First the rumor mill revealed ASUS had plans to refresh Ultrabooks with Ivy Bridge and 1080p IPS displays. Then the company confirmed the news itself when it brought some new Zenbook Prime laptops out for a demo and promised they'd go on sale in ASUS' native Taiwan. Now we've got some splendid news for our readers here in the US: those fresh ultraportables are making their way stateside too... eventually. ASUS just confirmed it's bringing four models to the states: the 11-inch UX21A, the 13-inch UX31A / UX32A and the UX32VD. What's the difference between the UX31A and the UX32A, you ask? It all comes down to storage: the UX32A uses hybrid hard drives, while the UX31A packs an SSD. Meanwhile,...

Asus Intros 12.5-inch B23E Ultraportable Laptop for Enterprise Users

Asus Intros 12.5-inch B23E Ultraportable Laptop for Enterprise Users

Posted on Jan 25, 2012 by MG3

Filed in: NotebooksASUSB23E

Asus is already an ultrabook veteran, having been the first company to unveil an ultrabook. But at the recently concluded Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, where we saw dozens of new ultrabook models from almost all other major vendors, Asus seemed content with merely announcing two new color options for its existing Zenbook lineup of ultrabooks. That said, the company didn’t announce any new notebook models either. Now that CES is well behind us,though, the company seems to have found the time to launch a new enterprise laptop, the B23E.

The B23E is essentially a 12.5-inch ultraportable targeted at enterprise users. Asus claims that all its B series enterprise notebooks are way bett...

With just about as little fanfare as possible, Asus has posted information on a new ultraportable laptop, the B23E. Coming in with a 12.5-inch, 1366 x 768 screen, it's available with a variety of configuration options from an Intel Core i3 with a 320GB hard drive on up to a Core i7, 8GB of RAM, and a 750GB/7200rpm drive. Although the 3.4-pound design doesn't inspire, it is arrayed with a decent set of default ports and options, including USB 3.0, HDMI, Express Card, Bluetooth, fingerprint scanner, and an SD card reader. The battery is only a three-cell, 4,400mAh and the 2-megapixel webcam certainly isn't anything special, but they are at least encased in a magnesium-aluminum alloy body. A mi...

A few weeks ago, Intel updated their Atom platform with the launch of Cedar Trail, the successor to Pine Trail. While CPU performance isn’t likely to have changed much—we’re still looking at a dual-core plus Hyper-Threading in-order architecture—the GPU core received an upgrade to a PowerVR SGX 545 (from the precious GMA 3150). The new chips are also fabbed on Intel’s 32nm process, making for a very tiny and power efficient processor that should improve on Atom’s already impressive battery life. Naturally, a new Atom platform means new Atom netbooks from all the usual suspects, and first out the door (at least in terms of detailed announcements) is ASUS with their updated Eee PC lineup. Asus Transformer Prime announced: World's first NVIDIA Tegra 3 tablet is official

Posted on Nov 09, 2011 by MG1

The time many of you have been waiting for has finally arrived. Not only have we just got our first real look at NVIDIA’s quad-core processor, the Tegra 3, but now we have more information on the very first tablet that will be using the snappy SoC, the Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime.
The Transformer Prime is a significant upgrade from the still-popular original. However, the Prime in its name is there for a reason. The tablet is being marketed as a premium tablet, and of course, it is. Because of that, the pricing for the Transformer Prime isn’t the same as the original, which was aimed at the mainstream consumer. That said, if you’re looking to be the cock of the walk with your next tablet ...

Asus Tranformer Prime tablet taken apart by the FCC, exposing the Tegra 3 quad-core chip

The Asus Tranformer Prime Android slate has been disassembled by the FCC, exposing the first quad-core ARM-based chip to enter a retail device, NVIDIA Tegra 3, aka Kal-El. If we don't count the ZTE T98 tablet, that is.
Asus did indeed make good on its promise to deliver the first quad-core mobile device by a brand name manufacturer, and Tegra 3 promises a lot, with better graphics and less power consumption leading the pack. Well, Tegra 3 is actually penta-core, but let's not be petty and counting.
Since the Transformer Prime will be as much as other high-end tablets at $499, but future-proof for 2012, Asus might again have a tablet hit on its hands, come November 9, just like it did with th...

Asus Transformer Prime release date leaked

Filed in: NotebooksASUS

An Asus slide has revealed the Asus Transformer Prime release date, which the company has set as 9 November.
Poor old Asus – only its investors were meant to see the slide, which also speaks of its Windows 8 tablet plans and the launch of two new Android slates in the first quarter of 2012.
It's good news for us though, as we'll be seeing the slinky-looking Asus Transformer Prime hit the shelves in just over a week, with plenty of shopping time left before Christmas.
Of course, there's no confirmation that 9 November is the Transformer Prime UK release date, but we'd hope it's a global launch, or that a UK release isn't far behind.

If you are anxiously awaiting the arrival of the quad-core packing Asus Transformer Prime then check out the set of photos that have leaked that show off the tablet and the keyboard dock in all their glory.
The Asus Transformer Prime is going to be the first device to feature the Tegra 3 quad-core processor. It is believed that it will also feature the Android Ice Cream Sandwich platform but unfortunately the only screenshot we get of the software shows the lockscreen and nothing else.
The keyboard dock looks like it could be made of aluminum and gives the device an overall attractive look. The keyboard is said to be only 8.3mm thin. The tablet itself has a 10.1-inch display and doesn’t lo...
